Game Summaries for 3/3/25

 

JV – Poolesville 36  Smithsburg 29     Poolesville's top-ranked JV Girls (18-1) overcame a four-point halftime deficit to beat 6th seeded Smithsburg and capture the Mid-Maryland League "A" Tournament Championship by a final score of 36-29. The Falcons went on a 8-0 3rd quarter run to make up the deficit behind Jayda Stanton's team-high 13 points, including a long three-pointer to help cap the comeback. Reagan Mauer and Marley Mitchel (six points each) both had critical buckets to get Poolesville back in the game. Lily Weyrauch finished with five points and Addy White contributed four points. Sofia Nalvarte came off the bench for a big 3rd quarter bucket. Smithsburg's Camryn Gouff didn't allow her team to go quietly. She scored early, often, and from all over to finish with a game-high 19 points. Vivian Malott's six second-half points (nine points total) kept Smithsburg close late in the game. Rylie Ciccarelli also scored for the "A" tournament runner-ups.  

 

V – Ballenger Creek 36  Mt Airy 33The Lady Ballenger Bulldogs and Lady Mt Airy Bulldogs played in the championship game Monday night prime time. The Lady Ballenger Bulldogs took home the trophy sealing the victory 36-33. First quarter both teams got off to a slow start and the Mt Airy Bulldogs took the lead at the end of the first quarter 6-5.  Second quarter the Mt.Airy Bulldogs jump out quick on the offensive side taking a lead 14-5.  Mt Airy  Bulldogs post player  Elise Uhlig was unstoppable. Elise Uhlig scored  all of the Lady Mt Airy Bulldogs 8 points  in  the quarter. The Lady Bulldogs would answer back going on a 8-2 run. The Mt Airy Bulldogs would hold on to a tight lead 16-13 at half time.  Second half the Lady Mt Airy Bulldogs came out again strong on the offensive side scoring 4 unanswered points taking the lead 20-13. The Lady Ballenger Bulldogs answered back going on a run holding Mt Airy Lady Bulldogs lead within 1 at the end of the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was a battle of the Bulldogs. Both team went bucket to bucket and the lady Ballenger Bulldogs took their first lead of the game 26-25. The Lady Mt Airy Bulldogs took the lead right back going up 27-26.  The Lady Ballenger  Bulldogs took another lead 30-27. Mt Airy Lady Bulldogs guard Julissa Almonte hit a clutch 3 tying  the game 30-30.  Ballenger Bulldogs guard Olivia Meyers hit 3 clutch free throws and Ballenger will in crease their lead 33-30. A seal from Eliana Alfaro resulted in Ballenger taking the lead 35-30. Mt Airy guard Maddy Hawkins gotcha big lay up and a lay up cutting Ballenger  lead 35-33. As time expired Ballenger sealed the victory to win the A tournament and take home the trophy. The Mt Airy Lady Bulldogs was led by Elise Uhlig with 16 points. Maddie Hawkins chipped in 11 points. The Ballenger Lady Bulldogs was led by Eliana Alfaro  with 12points. Samuel's Meleweke chipped in 11 points. Olivia Meyers   chipped in  10 points. Job well done to both teams.

 

JV - Linganore 34 Catoctin 32     In a thrilling showdown, the Linganore Lancers clashed with the Catoctin Cougars in Monday night's Championship game, delivering one of the season's most gripping battles with Linganore prevailing 34-32. Both teams arrived with fierce determination, trading shots in a high-energy first quarter that ended locked at 11-11. The second quarter remained just as tight, with the Lady Lancers edging ahead to a 22-20 lead over the Lady Cougars by halftime. The Lady Cougars emerged from the break with a roar, dominating the third quarter by scoring 10 points to Linganore’s mere 1, seizing a 30-23 advantage. Yet, the Lancers refused to buckle. Trailing by 9 entering the fourth, their resolve held firm. They mounted a fierce comeback, adding 11 points to surge ahead 34-32. With less than one second remaining in the game, a foul called on Linganore set the stage for a potential overtime thriller, sending the crowd into a frenzy. But the Cougars couldn’t capitalize on the free throws, sealing the victory for the JV Linganore Lancers. Capping a stellar season as the top team in the Antietam division and the #1 seed, the Lancers claimed the Championship in a game that showcased their grit and tenacity. Catoctin’s top scorers were Austin Droneburg, who tallied 10 points, and Abigail Morlan, who contributed 8 points. For Linganore, McKinley Hinkle led with 11 points, followed closely by Natalie Corrigan with 9 points. The game’s MVP honor went to Natalie Corrigan, whose outstanding performance capped a remarkable season.

V – Monocacy 47  Middletown 37     In the AA Varsity Tournament Championship Monocacy was able to hold off Middletown and get the title winning 47-37 The win caps off a 19-0 undefeated season for the Mustangs.     Middletown started off fast taking a 4-0 lead Megan Tross hitting a three pointer.Monocacy got it going with Sophia Burgee knocking down two three-pointers as Monocacy took the lead 12-10 after the first period.Monocacy increased its lead at the half to 30-23 with Burgee scoring 10 points.The defense picked up by both teams in the third quarter but Monocacy was able to win that quarter 10-7 to take a 10-point lead into the last quarter.The fourth was an even score at 7-7 as Monocacy was able to take home the championship.

Tournament Most Valuable Player was Monocacy's Sophia Burgee who scored a game high 25 points,her third tourney game scoring over 20 points.Laney Baer scored 12 points and had 8 rebounds,with Annabelle Horst controlling the boards with 16 rebounds,7 steals,and 7 points.Middletown had well-rounded scoring for 4 players.Avery Larson played an outstanding game scoring 12 points,with Megan Tross scoring 10 points,including two three-pointers.Reagan Murphy had 7 points with Cara Carpenter scoring 6 points.

 

 

 

Game Summaries for 3/2/25

V - Mt Airy 50  N Hagerstown 20      Mount Airy took on North Hagerstown for the third time this season in the A division semifinal.  The Bulldogs races to 19 point first half lead in route to a 50-20 win.  The number one seed Bulldogs advance to the championship game Monday night at St Johns Catholic Prep.  The Bulldogs were led by 22 points from Maddie Hawkins and 14 points from Elise Uhlig.  North Hagerstown was led by Zoey Sanders who had 12 points.

JV - Linganore 41 Urbana 17    In a matchup between JV Linganore and Urbana, the game opened with a sluggish first quarter with both teams firing off plenty of shots but rarely finding the net. Urbana ramped up their defense in the second quarter, though their aggressive play led to frequent fouls. Meanwhile, Linganore found their rhythm, surging ahead to a 16-7 lead by halftime. They maintained their momentum throughout the second half, ultimately securing a decisive 41-17 victory. Urbana’s standout performers were Eva Zeng, who scored 7 points, and Sophia Villegas, who added 5 points. For Linganore, Natalie Corrigan led the way with 10 points, followed by Kennedy Poffenbarger with 7 points.

JV - Catoctin 41 Monocacy 23  Tense match up between Catoctin and Monocacy for the Semifinals of playoffs. Catoctin came off the bench on fire with 4 points within the first couple of seconds of the game. Monocacy struggled with the press in the first quarter.  Monocacy battled back in the second quarter with strong defense and picked it up on offense. C. Moxley had 8 big points this quarter. A. Turner closed out the half with a beautiful 3 point shot. 

Catoctin came back battling the 3rd and 4th quarter with solid defense and some big offensive points to pull away from Monocacy. Abby Morlan (12) and Austin Droneburg (14) were consistent across the game with hitting the their shots. C. Moxley (10), A. Turner (5) and J. Albaugh (4) put up some great points for Monocacy. 

V – Ballenger Creek 40  Smithsburg 28     The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Leopards faced off in the final 4 match up. The Lady Bulldogs sealed the win 40-28 to advance in the championship game.   First half the Lady Bulldogs was unstoppable with their shooting performance and took the lead at the half 19-12. Second half the Lady Leopards scored 6 quick points cutting the Lady Bulldogs lead to 1. The Lady Bulldogs forced multiple turnovers with their defensive press taking the lead 30-20 at the end of the 3rd quarter.  Fourth quarter the Lady Leopards again attempted to come back cutting the Lady Bulldogs lead within 4 but as time expired the Lady Bulldogs would seal the victory. The Lady Leopards was led by Payton Patterson and Hilary Sayba  with 11 points.  The Lady Bulldogs was led by Olivia Meyers with 19 points. Eliana Alfaro  and Samuela Melekewe chipped in 9 points.

V - Middletown 49 Catoctin 38      The second game of the night began with a slow start, with both teams showing a bit of nerves and cold shooting and the score squared even at 6-6 at the end of the first. The Knights were able to handle the Cougars feisty press and began hitting some shots, scoring a game-high 17 points during the second quarter to propel the Knights to a 23-15 halftime lead. The Cougars would not back down, however, and were able to keep the game close with some gravity-defying shots and capitalized on some defensive breakdowns. In the end, though, the Knights were too much to handle, and cruised to a 49 to 38 victory. Alice Watson closed her season by leading the team with 14 points, and Leah French chipped in a hard-earned 10. In a well-balanced fashion, the Knights' Reagan Murphy led with 15 points, Cara Carpenter with 14, and Avery Larson with 13. Congratulations to the Cougars on a highly successful season, and good luck to the Knights who take on Monocacy tomorrow at 7:45 in the AA championship.

V - Monocacy 53  Linganore 40      A 15-2 first quarter led Monocacy to a 53-40 win over Linganore in the AA semi-final Varsity game.The last three quarters was even as both teams matched scoring runs but the first quarter was too much for Linganore to overcome.Sophia Burgee led the winners in scoring with 25 points including 3 three-pointers.Melissa Yeboah scored 14 points,with 8 steals and 4 assists.Laney Baer had 10 points with 8 rebounds and Annabelle Horst had a team high 9 steals,7 rebounds and 4 blocks.Tori Capone had an outstanding game for Linganore,scoring 15 points including 7-13 at the foul line.McKenzie Kelly added 8 points for the Lancers.

JV - Poolesville 41  Clear Spring 21      Top-ranked Poolesville (17-1), still smarting after a late season loss, turned on the jets against 4th-seeded Clear Spring and rolled to a 41-21 win to advance to the Mid-Maryland League "A" Tournament championship on Monday night against upset-winning Smithsburg. Poolesville's win was typical for this season thanks to spreading the ball around and nine players eventually hitting the scorebook. Regan Mauer again paced the Falcons --- this time she hit for 13 points. Marley MItchel pitched in seven points in the win. Jayda Stanton and Lily Weyrauch hit for four points each. Abby White had a 4th-quarter three-pointer. Charlotte Afshar, Brea Hebron, Sofia Nalvarte, and Camille Morrow also all scored to help Poolesville move forward. Charis Britton and Lauralyn Blair led Clear Spring with six points each. Isabella Greene hit for four 4th quarter points. Piper Reed, Layla Barr, and Julia Brown also scored in the season ending loss.

 

Game Summaries for 2/23/25

 

V - Mount Airy 54  Poolesville 25      Mount Airy entered the playoffs as the #1 seed and took on the #9 seed Poolesville.  The Bulldogs jumped out to a 12 point first quarter lead by Maddie Hawkins 10 first half points.  The Falcons played tough the whole game and were led by Genevieve Sheltons 11 points and Brooklyn Corbetts 7points.  Mount Airy would stretch the lead to 31 before finishing the game with a 54-25 win.  Mt Airy was led by Maddie Hawkins 21 points, Elise Uhligs 10 points, and Julissa Almontes 6points.  Overall, nine Bulldogs got into the scorebook in the win

V - North Hagerstown 29  Brunswick 26    4 seed North Hagerstown Queens played a vary tuff matchup against 5 seed Brunswick that ended in a Hagerstown Victory  29-26. Hagerstown Dalzaya Knight was lead by all scorers with 17 points , Sanders 4 , Gingrich and Barnett both with 3 points and Myers ended with 2 points. 

Brunswick Greenwood lead her team with 9 points , Shallenbarge 5 points , Mercer 6 points , Lowery 4 points and Leferar ended with 2 points. 

JV - Linganore 33  Oakdale 12     Linganore jumped out to a commanding 15-0 lead in the first quarter en route to an 33 to 12 victory over crosstown rival Oakdale. The Lancers jumped out early and maintained their dominance throughout the game largely thanks to their defense. By halftime, the score stood at 18-4 in their favor. Oakdale mounted a resilient effort, tightening their defense in the second half and battling until the final buzzer, but they couldn’t match the Lancers’ momentum. Linganore sealed the victory with a final score of 33-12. Natalie Corrigan led the Lancers with an impressive 10 points, followed by McKinley Hinkle with 9 points. For Oakdale, Regan McElwee topped the scoring with 4 points, while Gabrielle Gonzales contributed 3 points.

V - Catoctin 30  Oakdale 26     Sunday afternoons quarterfinal pitted the #6 seed Catoctin Lady Cougars versus the #3 seed Oakdale Lady Bears for their third matchup in 3 weeks. Oakdale swept the regular season matchups but Catoctin came ready to battle. The first quarter was a defensive battle with Catoctin grabbing a 3-2 lead. Things opened up in quarter two with Catoctin scoring 14 to Oakdale’s 11. Leah French, Alice Watson and Austin Droneburg all hit three pointers in the quarter and Ellaina Case had 4. Jami Graham and Elizabeth Bova each had 4 points in the quarter for Oakdale. Catoctin led 17-13 at the half. The third quarter saw the Lady Bears claw closer winning the quarter 9-6 behind 4 points from Graham and 3 points from Makenna Bales. Catoctin 23-22 after three periods. The fourth quarter was intense with the home crowd making lots of noise in support of their Lady Bears but it was Catoctin who made enough plays to secure the win 30-26. A huge steal and layup by Adalyn DeGrange and multiple rebounds by Abby Morlan to extend possessions helped Catoctin hold on. DeGrange led Catoctin with 9 points, Case had 6 points, Watson had 5 points, French had 4 points and Morlan and Droneburg each had3 points. Graham led Oakdale with 10 points, Bova had 5 points, Bales, Aubrey Doyle and Lillian Leon all had 3 points and Bri Sims had 2 to round out the scoring. Catoctin advances to play Middletown next Sunday night in the semifinals.
 

JV - Poolesville 49  Mt. Airy 10       Poolesville's #1 seeded JV Girls took the extra day of rest and used the extra energy to pour on the points in their 49-10 win over eighth-seeded Mt. Airy. The Falcons hit their stride early by jumping out to an 18-3 first quarter lead and never looked back thanks to ten players hitting the scorebook in their most complete win of the season. Poolesville's Marley Mitchel led all scorers with ten first quarter points (including two three-pointers) and an additional free throw for 11 points total. Sofia Nalvarte was right behind her with eight points, Addy White finished with seven points, and Reagan Mauer hit for six points. Lily Weyrauch and Camille Morrow pitched in four points each, Charlotte Moore scored three points, and Lily Cusic, Margo Slonski, and Grace Mays each had a bucket in the win. Carlie Alexander finished with six points for Mt. Airy, Maddy Janyska hit for three points, and Ashlynn Harrison had a bucket in the season-ending loss. Poolesville now goes on to advance to the MML "A" Tournament semi-finals next Sunday (March 2nd) against #4 seed Clear Spring at Tuscarora HS at 2:00 PM.. 

JV - Catoctin 47  West Frederick 17     Catoctin JV came off the bench with a quick start with 4 points within the first minute of the game. West Frederick was quick to answer back and throw the heat with a solid press. West Frederick continued with a strong defense that became foul heavy in the 2nd half of the game. Both benches would struggle with foul trouble.  Catoctin pushed ahead with a solid offensive game. Alice Watson coming up with her highest score of 25 points for the game with Abby Morlan,  Austin Droneburg and Ellaina Case  following right behind her for the game win.  West Frederick’s C. Romano had 6 points and H. Chapman with 5 points. 

V – Ballenger Creek 43  Williamsport 26    The Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Wildcats in Sunday night Quarterfinal playoff action. The Lady Bulldogs sealed the victory to advance in the semifinals 43-26.  First quarter the Lady Bulldogs jump out to a 17-1 run taking a lead at the end of the first quarter 23-7. Second quarter the Lady Wildcats guard Trinity Brown woke the Lady Wildcats offense up  scoring 6 of the Lady Wildcats 7  second quarter points.  The Lady Bulldogs took the lead at half 27-14. Second half the Lady Wildcats jump out and scored 5 unanswered points cutting the Lady Bulldogs lead to 8. After a timeout was called by the Lady Bulldogs the Lady Bulldogs answered back increasing their lead at the end of the third quarter to 12. Fourth quarter with adjustments the Lady Bulldogs was able to seal the victory and advanced to the next round in playoffs. Good season Lady Wildcats. The Lady Wildcats was led by post player Daphne Magaha with 12 points. Trinity Brown chipped in 9 points. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Olivia Meyers with 17 points. Eliana Alfaro added 15 points. Amani Summerville chipped in 6 points scoring all of her 6 points in the fourth quarter.

V - Middletown 36  FSK 32     In another quarterfinals thriller, Middletown jumped out to an early 13-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, FSK's relentless pressure allowed the Eagles to create defense into offense, propelling them to a 21-18 halftime lead. This neck and neck race continued into the 4th quarter, but the Knights caused some timely turnovers and converted key baskets to secure the win. Neveah led the Eagles with 9 points, and Reese chipped in with 6. The Knights were led by Megan Tross with 12 points and 10 from Reagan Murphy.

JV - Windsor Knolls 35  Ballenger Creek 8    The JV Lady Wolverines hosted the Ballenger Creek Bulldogs in quarter final play today at Brunswick High. Windsor Knolls came out firing to start the first quarter. WK was able to contain the bulldogs with a suffocating press throughout the game. The first quarter ended 8-0.  At the half WK led 18-4. In the second half Ballenger Creek kept fighting and gave WK all they could handle. Windsor Knolls eventually wore down BC and the game ended 35-8. Arianna Tineo led all scores for the bulldogs with 4 points. Lucy Wiese and Amaya Darrell had 2 points each. The Lady Wolverines top scorers were Grace Rahmati and Annabel Shelhorse both with 8 pts. Chloe Merriwether 6 pts, Lakeysha Chadwell-English 5 pts, Ella Muise 4 pts and Ellie Shearer and Macey Cox both had 2 pts. 

V - Monocacy 62   West Frederick 21      In a first round AA tournament game game, Sophia Burgee and Annabelle Horst teamed up to lead Monocacy past West Frederick 62-21.Leading 17-6,Monocacy went on a 16-point run to pull further away,leading at the half 38-8.Annabelle Horst had an amazing overall game with a double=double scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds,and adding 7 assist,4 steals,and 4 blocks.Sophia Burgee had a game high 28 points including shooting 4 for 5 from behind the three- point line.Laney Baer scored 10 points with 8 rebounds and 4 assists.Melissa Yeboah added 10 points for the winners.For West Frederick,Kadence Seales scored a team high 13 points with one three-pointer,with Victoria Clayton hitting two three-pointers for 6 points.Nuria Timm added 5 points.

 

 

Game Summaries for 2/22/25

 

V - Williamsport 53 Clear Spring 40     Clear spring “hosted” Williamsport in the first round of the “A” tournament with a final score Williamsport 53 Clear Spring 40. The first half of the game Williamsport came out on fire, they couldn’t miss on the day while Clear Spring couldn’t buy a bucket. Williamsport led by #3 Brown hit three 3-pointers and two foul shots for 10 of her game high 18 points  along with another 3-pointer from Brown leading to a 20-7 lead by Williamsport. The second quarter Williamsport would score another 13 as the rebounds and put back added up. Halftime score was 33-13. The second half the Blazer would try to come back out scoring Williamsport 27-20, but the first half lead was too much to overcome. Final score was Williamsport 53 - Clear Spring 40. Leading scorers for Williamsport Brown with 18, Cauffman with 16, and Magaha with 12. Leading scorers for Blazers Bussard with 12, Stewart with 10, and Robinson with 8. 

JV – Mt Airy 38  N. Hagerstown 11   Mt Airy applied defensive pressure from the beginning, creating turnovers and scoring opportunities. Carlie Alexander got the scoring started with 4 first quarter points. N. Hagerstown answered with a three pointer from Aniyah Ware. 4 points from Maddy Janyska gave Mt Airy a 10-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. Kendall Cohen scored six of her game high 12 points in the second, pushing the lead to 19-3 at halftime. Niameh Jalloh scored 5 in the third for N. Hagerstown but with a short bench, the defensive pressure was too much to overcome. Cohen had 12 points for Mt Airy, followed by Janyska with 10 points. Lily Grubic added 6 points, Alexander had 4 and Ashlynn Harrison scored 3. N. Hagerstown was led by Jalloh with 5, Ware with 3 and Blessing Engemise with 2.

V - Poolesville 36  Boonsboro 20    Poolesville's 8th seeded Varsity Girls advanced to the quarterfinals of the MML Girls "A" Tournament on Saturday with a 36-20 win over Boonsboro. Poolesville broke open a close game riding on the shoulders of Arianna Jones, who scored all of her game-high 14 points in the first half. Brooklyn Corbett was a force for the Falcons as well---she finished with eight points. Renea Cooke and Genevieve Shelton pitched in four points each and Ella Charbonneau, Norah Jackson, and Ananya Mulukutla also scored in the win. Morgan Molesky got Boonsboro off to a fast start, with all seven of her points coming in the first quarter. Harper Mullendore hit for five second-half points for the Lady Warriors. Maria Marquis nailed a three-pointer to keep things close in the second quarter. Jailyne Hammerman had a bucket and Christina Bittner, Caroline Plumadore, and Madalyn Wheeler all scored for Boonsboro. The win pushes Poolesville to a match-up against top-ranked Mt. Airy on Sunday (2/23) at 5:30 PM. 

JV – Clear Spring 33 Brunswick 31 The JV Lady Blazers “hosted” the Brunswick Railroaders at Brunswick high school for the JV quarterfinal with a final score Clear Spring 33 Brunswick 31. The game was back and forth the whole game with the Blazers trailing or tied until the final minute of overtime. Both teams would play tough defense in a very physical game leading to a halftime score of 10-6 Railroaders. The 3rd quarter would see both teams find the bottom of the bucket as the Railroaders would add to their point total and hit two 3-pointers and the Blazers would jump on Britton and Blairs back as they battled under the basket. The 4th quarter would start out with a slim lead by the Railroaders. The 4th quarter would intensify as the Railroaders would go up to start the quarter, but the Blazers would battle back finishing the comeback with two free throws by Osborne in the final seconds to send the game to overtime! To start OT CIcerella would hit a big 3-pointer to add to her game high 11 points to get the Railroaders going. However, the Blazers would continue battling underneath the basket and play tough on defense to go ahead with 2 points with 34 seconds left in OT. The Railroaders would send everything they had but the Blazers were able to hold on and win 33-31! A fantastic game in front of a big crowd had the whole gym buzzing!  The Railroaders were led by Cicerella with 11 points. The Blazers were led by Britton with 10 points, Blair with 8 points, and Brown with 7 points.  

V - Linganore 33  Urbana 29    Fourth seeded Linganore Lancers and fifth seeded Urbana Hawks battled it out in the playoffs on Saturday afternoon at Oakdale HS with Linganore prevailing 33-29.  Linganore put up seven points in the first period while holding Urbana to just one point.  Urbana scored two baskets late in the second period to outscore Linganore 7-6 and cut Linganore's lead to four points at the end of the first half.  With Linganore up just 12-8 to start the second half, the third period saw more offensive action from both teams, including 3-pointers from Linganore's Brooklyn Dommel and Urbana's Bella Muniz and Dakota Washington.  Urbana outcored Linganore 12-10 in the third period and cut the Lancers' lead to just two points.  With Linganore up 22-20 to start the fourth period, both teams maintained full court pressure and played tough defense.  In the final period, Linganore outscored Urbana 11-9 and took the hard-fought victory 33-29.  Linganore's Tori Capone led all scorers with 11 points.  Linganore also got 10 points from McKenzie Kelly and 3 points from Brooklyn Dommel and Anna Doy.  Urbana was led by Madison Manguiri with 10 points, Dakota Washington with 9 points, and Grace Pfau with 4 points.    

JV - Monocacy 24 FSK 20     Monocacy and FSK JV teams met Saturday evening at Oakdale High School in the Quarterfinal matchup of the #3 seed (Monocacy) vs. #6 seed (FSK).  The game was an overall defensive battle with the score tied multiple times.  The score was tied 5-5 at the end of the first quarter and 11-11 at halftime.  FSK's first half scoring was from free throw shooting by FSK's Braylin Gill and Reese Smith and three field goals by Raegen Dietz.  Monocacy kept the game close with 3-pointers from Abby Tootill and Jaclyn Albaugh.  Monocacy found an edge in the third quarter with two field goals each from Jaclyn Albaugh and Charlotte Moxley and took a 20-16 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  Both teams played solid defense in the fourth quarter, FSK managed two field goals from Nadalie Gill and Monocacy got another 3-pointer from Jacyln Albaugh plus a clutch free throw from Charlotte Moxley.  Monocacy locked down the final seconds with a 24-20 win and an advance to the Semifinals.  Monocacy's Jaclyn Albaugh led all scorers with 10 points (two 3-pointers) followed by Charlotte Moxley with 8 points and Natalie Saxon and Abby Tootill (one 3-pointer) with 3 points each.  Nadalie Rill led FSK with 8 points, followed by Raegan Dietz with 6 points, Lileean Honeycutt with 5 piints (one 3-pointer) and Reese Smith with 1 point.

JV – Urbana 26  Middletown 20    In a quarterfinal matchup between Middletown and Urbana, Urbana came away with the victory 26=20.  Between two very evenly matched teams, defense was on display early.  At the end of quarter one, three Hawks had baskets and two Knights each hit threes to knot the score at 6-6.  The second quarter was no different from the first, which was dominated by defense and a narrow lead at the half for Urbana, 12-10.  Urbana found timely scoring in the third quarter as Makayla Randolph scored 8 in the frame, expanding the lead to 21-16.  With a flurry of missed shots in the fourth quarter, Middletown could not find the mark and Urbana secured the victory 26-20.  Urbana was led in scoring by Makayla Randolph with 14, Sophia Villegas with 6, and Dru Joseph with 3.  Middletown was led in scoring by Micaela Zeigler with 6, Stella Fogle with 5, and Avery Sacchetti and Charlotte Moore both with 3.

JV – Ballenger Creek 28  Cestwood 12    The Jv lady Bulldogs hosted their rivals Crestwood Cavilers in the first round of play offs. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Cavaliers  28-12.  First half the Lady Bulldogs defensive press gave the Lady Cavaliers problems and the Lady Bulldogs took the lead at the half 15-5. Second half the Lady Cavaliers jump out quick scoring 3 points cutting the Lady Bulldogs lead within 7. The Lady Bulldogs took the lead at the end of the third quarter 21-8.  Fourth quarter Cavaliers guard Addie Murray did well on the offensive side scoring 4 points in the quarter. The Lady Bulldogs tough defense and driving to the bucket helped the Lady Bulldogs sealed the victory. The Lady Cavaliers was led by Addie Murray with 5 points. Eliana Morris and Brooklyn Williams chipped in 3 points. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Arianna Tineo with 13 points. Amaya Darrell chipped in 6 points. Clara Main added 4 points

V - Smithsburg 30  Windsor Knolls 21    Smithsburg was led by Payton Patterson with a game high of 11 points, and Cam Gouff added 10 points for the win.  Windsor Knolls was led by Kayleigh with 8 points and Aubrey Longhorn chipped in with 6 points.

JV - Smithsburg 27  Williamsport 24     Smithsburg was led by Viv Mallot scoring a game high 18 points, and scored the last 5 points to lead to the win. C. Leasure led Williamsport with 13 points for team high. Williamsport scored 14 points in the 4th quarter to take a lead before Smithburg  closed out the game for the win.

 

Game Summaries for 2/17/25

JV – Brunswick 36   Crestwood 6    The Brunswick JV girls closed out the regular season clicking on all cylinders, as the Railroaders knocked off Crestwood, 36-6.  Brunswick scored 9 points in each quarter, and had 10 players put points on the board.  The Railroaders were led by Josie Spevak with a game-high 8 points, followed by Kayla Ciccarelli, who scored 6 with a pair of 3-point field goals.  Annabelle Boyer chipped in with 5, and Katie Paschalides notched 4 in the win.  Jollene Droneburg had 3 points, while Emma Higgins, Karis Phillips, Ruby Renn, Jubilee Shullenbarger, and Harper Hahn each contributed 2 points apiece.  For Crestwood, Eliana Morris led the way with 4 points, while Addie Murray and NIa Bowins also scored for the Cavaliers.  Both teams now turn their attention to the end of season tournament, which begins next weekend in Brunswick.

V - Urbana 32 West Frederick 20  In a rematch from two days ago, the home Hawks came away with a victory over the visiting Cadets, 32 - 20.  Urbana came out firing on all cylinders, applying pressure defense and getting balanced scoring, while taking a 20 - 6 lead into halftime.  West Frederick answered the bell in the 3rd quarter, cutting into Urbana's lead with the Hawks holding onto a 23 - 16 lead headed into the final quarter.  Urbana was able to find that tough defense and scoring again in the fourth and came away with the 32 - 20 victory.  West Frederick was lead on the offensive end by Reagan Henderson with seven points; additional scorers for the Cadets were Kaleah Hayes (4), Nuria Timm (3) and Victoria Clayton, Anais Affo and Kadence Seales with 2 points each.  Urbana's point leader was Teagan Pyles with 10 points; the Hawks' other scorers were Madison Manguiri (eight, including 6-6 from the FT line), Dakota Washingon (four), Emily Mitchel (three) and Bella Muniz, Grace Pfau and Kirsten Behrsing with two each and Maggie Slaght (one).  The leading rebounders for the Hawks were Manguiri and Washington with six each, Behrsing with four, Delaney Holt with three, Mitchel and Pyles with two each and Slaght and Pfau with one each.  Washington led the Hawks with five steals and Manguiri swiped four.  Manguiri and Pyles lead the Hawks with two assists each.

JV - Urbana 32  West Frederick 18    In their final game of the season, the Urbana JV Girls Basketball team dominated with relentless pressure defense against Frederick. Harper Chapman was a key player, scoring 12 points while being a defensive force. Emerson Jarvis led Urbanas offense with 9 points, helping the team maintain control throughout the game. Urbanas tough defense and balanced scoring proved too much for Frederick, securing a strong victory to close out the season.

V - Middletown 29  Linganore 19   On Monday night, Linganore hosted Middletown at Linganore High School in a make-up game between the top two teams in the Antietam Division.  It was a battle right from the start with Linganore outscoring Middletown 9-7 in the first period.  Linganore's slim lead was short-lived as Middletown's offense came alive in the second period and they outscored Linganore 13-3.  Middletown took an 8-point lead going into halftime.  In the third period, both teams came out with strong defense, however, Linganore won the third period battle scoring 5 points while holding Middletown to 4 points.  The defensive battle continued in the fourth period, and after cutting the lead to 7 points, Linganore was unable to get the ball to drop and only scored 2 points to Middletown's 5 points.  Middletown came away with a 10-point victory.  Leading the way for Middletown was Reagan Murphy with 8 points, Megan Tross with 7 points, and Addison Benler with 6 points.  Linganore was led by Marleigh Salb and Anna Doy with 4 points each, and Avianna Gorski, Tori Capone, and McKenzie Kelly each chipped in 3 points.     

JV - Linganore 50   Middletown 20     The Linganore Lancers hosted Middletown in a competitive match. Both teams started with vigor, tying the score at 8-8 by the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Mckinley Hinkle led the charge for Linganore, scoring 10 points, while Natalie Corrigan and Sawyer Jones contributed 2 points each. This effort gave the Lancers a significant lead of 22-10 at halftime. Linganore kept their advantage throughout the game, ultimately securing the victory with a final score of 50-20. The leading scorers for Linganore were McKinley Hinkle with 16 points, Followed by Natalie Corrigan with 9 Points. The leading scorers from Middletown were Avery Sacchettti with 7 points and Juliane Grady with 4 points.

V - Mt. Airy 34  Poolesville 19    Mt. Airy returned the favor by putting the clamps on Poolesville in the second half of their 34-19 win over the Falcons. The visitors held Poolesville to just two points in the fateful  3rd quarter to secure the victory. Julissa Almonte led Mt. Airy with 10 points, followed closely by Elise Uhlig with nine. Charlotte Richardson finished with five points and Lily Kaye and Reagan Kalbaugh pitched in four points each. Arianna Jones kept Poolesville in the game with 11 points. Brooklyn Corbett, Ananya Mulukutla, Genevieve Shelton and Norah Jackson all contributed a bucket or two free throws.in the loss. 

JV - Poolesville 45  Mt. Airy 27    Poolesville's JV Girls put seven players in the scorebook en route to a 45-27 win over visiting Mt. Airy in a President's Day clash. Poolesville ran out to a 26-8 first half lead then coasted to the win. The Falcons' Camille Morrow (10 points) and Jayda Stanton (nine points) carried the flag for Poolesville, but Reagan Mauer, Addy White, and Brea Hebron were not to be outdone --- each pitched in six points. Lily Weyrauch and Grace Mays added four points each in the win. Mt. Airy's Lily Grubic hit for eight points to pace the visitors. Carlie Alexander finished with six points. Kendall Cohen added four points, Maddie Hancock had three, and Sophie Williams and Maddy Janyska also scored in the loss. 

JV – Windsor Knolls 31  Poolesville 23    Poolesville's dream of an undefeated regular season fell just short as their Piedmont division rival Windsor Knolls JV Girls (12-3) delivered a 31-23 reminder that everything is up for grabs in the upcoming MML tournament. Windsor Knolls jumped out to an early 17-8 lead and held the margin the rest of the contest. Chloe Merriwether paced WK with nine points. Annabelle Shelhorse, Myla Muise, and Grace Rahmati hit for six points to help deliver the win for the visitors. Marley Mitchel lived at the charity stripe, going six for eight from the free throw line, to lead Poolesville (15-1) with eight points. Lily Weyrauch and Charlotte Afshar pitched in four points each. Addy White added three points, and Poolesville closed out the scoring with points from Jayda Stanton, Brea Hebron, and Regan Mauer.  

 

 

Game Summaries for 2/16/25

 V – Oakdale 41   Catoctin 30   It was another Chesapeake division battle between second place Oakdale and third place Catoctin as soon as the two teams stepped onto the court. The defense was tough early on, as evidenced by a low scoring first half - Oakdale 16 Catoctin 11. Three Lady Bears stayed away from the inside tussle and each drained a 3-pointer: Liz Bova, Bri Sims, and Aubrey Doyle.  Oakdale continued on their defensive stretch in the second half, but not only did they defend, they also found the rim and out scored the Cougars 25-19 in the second half. The Lady Bears also had a successful day at the free throw line - shooting 80% - which helped them maintain a larger lead on the Cougars. 

Bri Sims led Oakdale with 13. The Bears contributors to this afternoon win were Lillian Leon (7), Liz Bova (6), Aubrey Doyle (5), and Evyn Bova (4).   Even with the tough defense, the Cougars clawed their way to the board with Leah French leading the squad with 14, Abigail Morlan (5), and Alice Watson (4).

JV - Catoctin 41  Oakdale 19     The Lady Bears hosted the Lady Cougars for the last game of each other’s season. With three starters missing from the Oakdale roster, the Lady Bears defended the den for the first several minutes, but the Cougars attacked in the second half of the first quarter, with 6 points from Abigail Morlan (13 points total) and 5 points from Alice Watson (11 points total). By halftime the Bears clawed back into the battle of the hardwood and Catoctin led by 8.  The Lady Cougars came out in the second half ready to pounce. They outscored the Lady Bears 21-7 and Oakdale could not gain momentum. Other Cougar contributors were Ellaina Case with 8, Austin Droneburg with 7, and Scarlett Riffle with 2.   The Lady Bears had several contributors from the den: Desiree Djoko (5), Regan McElwee and Anna Mills (4), and the remaining rounded out by Tallulah Hammel, Raelyn Scritchfield, and Briley Schreiber (2).

V - Brunswick 33  Boonsboro 17     Brunswick traveled to Boonsboro on Sunday and pulled away from the Warriors in the final quarter and half to win 33-17.  Boonsboro started strong taking a 5-0 lead, but Brunswick fought back throughout the first half taking a 15-10 halftime lead due to a strong inside presence from Kimber Mercer (six points).  The Warriors fought back in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 15-14 on strong halfcourt defense.  Brunswick responded from behind the arc hitting three three-pointers as well as an and-one to extend their lead and finish with a victory.  The Warriors were led by Jailyne Hammerman who overcame early foul trouble to contribute seven points.  The Railroaders were led by Maya Lowery who scored ten, including two three-point shots.

JV - Boonsboro 34  Brunswick 17     The atmosphere was electric as Brunswick visited Boonsboro for a highly anticipated matchup. Boonsboro's tenacious defense set the tone early, but Brunswick matched their physicality, creating a hard-fought contest. While Brunswick struggled to find their range from beyond the arc, they capitalized on opportunities at the free throw line, converting 15 of 31 attempts. Boonsboro's Wetzel led all scorers with 11 points, while Luther and Smith each contributed 6. Leading scorer for Brunswick being Ciccarelli with 4 points. Ultimately, Boonsboro emerged victorious with a final score of 34-17.

V - Linganore 48 Smithsburg 34   Linganore was led by Tori Capone with 13 points and Marleigh Salb added 12 points    Smithsburg was led by Viv Malott with a game high 19 points.

JV - Linganore 37 Smithsburg 34   Corrigan led Linganore with 14 points, and Hinkle added 7 points. Cam Gouff had a game high of 18 points, and Viv Malott added 11 points for Smithsburg.

V - Monocacy 53  West Frederick 31    With a slim 8-7 lead early in the first quarter,Monocacy went on a 19-0 run and coasted from there in defeating a scrappy West Frederick team 53-31.Sophie Burgee led the winners in scoring pouring in a game high 22 points.Melissa Yeboah had an outstanding game with a double-double,16 points and 10 steals.Laney Baer added 8 points and 9 rebounds, with Annabelle Horst scoring 5 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. West Frederick's Kadence Seales led her team with 13 points including a three-pointer,Vicroria Clayton with 6 points hitting two three-pointers,and Nuria Timm adding 5 points.

JV - Monocacy 41  West Frederick 20      Monocacy and West Frederick JV teams met Sunday at Thomas Johnson High School in the regular season finale.  The first quarter ticked away without much scoring dominated by strong defense from both teams. Moncacy's Hazel Gomez scored a field goal followed by Natalie Saxon and Monocacy held a 5-0 lead at the end of the first.  Monocacy got its offense going in the 2nd quarter behind a 3-pointer from Alora Turner and Monocacy held a 19-6 lead at the half.  Five Monocacy players scored in the third quarter and Monocacy extended it's lead to 32-11 at the end of the third.  Both teams traded field goals in the fourth quarter highlighted by two 3-pointers from Cally Romano from West Frederick and two field goals from Jacyln Albaugh from Monocacy as Monocacy cruised to a 41-20 win.  Natalie Saxon from Monocacy led all scorers with 12 points, followed by Alora Turner (one 3-pointer) and Jaclyn Albaugh with 9 points each, Hazel Gomex with 7 points, and Charlotte Moxley and Autumn Marshall with 2 points each.  Cally Romano led West Frederick with 10 points (two 3-pointers), followed by 4 from Harper Chapman, 3 from A'nyiah Wade, 2 from Jordan Shook and 1 point from Grace Sprugers.

V - Urbana 26  Windsor Knolls 23     In a tightly contested game at UHS, the home Hawks came away with a victory over the visiting Wolverines, 26 - 23.  Windsor Knolls jumped out to an early first quarter lead, followed by a tight second quarter, with Urbana holding on to a 10 - 9 halftime lead.  The third quarter was a repeat of the first two quarters, with very little scoring; the game tied at 15 going into the final period.  In the fourth, the Hawks were finally able to get some momentum going on the offensive end (Dakota Washington with seven points and Kirsten Behrsing with four) and put some distance between them and the Wolverines, only to see the visitors answer back with a run of their own, capped off by a 3-pointer by Kimora Saunders to pull Windsor Knolls to within 1 point with less than 20 seconds left in the game.  A layup at the end of the game by Behrsing provided the final margin and secure the win for the Hawks.  Windsor Knolls was lead on the offensive end by Audrey Langham with seven points, with Saunders chipping in six.  Urbana's point leaders were Washington with 10 and Teagan Pyles with five.  The leading rebounders for the Hawks were Delaney Holt with seven, Behrsing with five and Grace Pfau with four.  Behrsing also led the Hawks with four steals and three assists.

JV – Urbana 33  Windsor Knolls 27      Urbana hosted Windsor Knolls Sunday for a rematch. The game started with a tight first quarter, with Urbana leading 8-6. Strong defense from Anabel Murphy and key blocks by Sophia Villegas set the tone for Urbana's offensive push, led by Emerson Jarvis, Brooklyn Walder, and Eva Zeng. By halftime, Urbana held a 21-14 lead.  In the third quarter, Grace Ramati exploded with five quick points, while Windsor Knolls' Chloe Merriweather led her team with 7 points. Myla Muise, Macey Cox, and Ellie Shearer added key buckets to keep Windsor Knolls competitive.  Urbana's offense was powered by Sophia Villegas, who finished with 11 points, 6 blocks, and 3 steals. Emerson Jarvis contributed 7 points and 4 steals, while Brooklyn Walder added 6 points. Anabel Murphy,  Eva Zeng, Mia Insari, Makayla Randolph, and Dru Joseph also made important contributions. Brooklyn Weidling was instrumental on the boards, adding several key rebounds to help secure the win for Urbana. Jacey Abreu and Emma Schmitt played stellar defense, helping to disrupt Windsor Knolls' offense and contribute to Urbana's victory.

V – Mt Airy 2   Williamsport 0   Williamsport did not have enough players and forfeited the game.

JV – Mt Airy 34  Williamsport 7   Mt Airy got off to a hot start with Lily Grubic scoring 4 of her game high 14 in the first quarter. The Bulldogs added to their lead in the second quarter and led 20-0 at halftime. Williamsport converted on a few opportunities in the third quarter to cut into the lead. Sophie Williams was hot for Mt Airy and scored 7 points in the fourth quarter. A three-pointer from Kendall Cohen helped Mt Airy seal the win. Mt Airy was led by Grubic with 14, Williams with 9 and Cohen with 7. Charlotte Leasure scored 6 for Williamsport.

V - Middletown 51  FSK 31     After a 14 day layoff Middletown hosted FSK today in their final home game of the season. The Knights jumped out to a 17-2 lead after the first quarter, but an aggressive FSK defense cooled the offensive attack, leading to a 25-7 halftime score. The Eagles continued with the pressure, never giving up and scoring a game-high 14 points in the fourth quarter behind Nevaeh Dotson's 5 points. In the end, the Knights prevailed, shooting 17 free throws in the 4th quarter alone.  The Eagles were led by Lyla Smith's 11 points with Nevaeh Dotson chipping in with 9. For the winners, the Knights' inside presence dominated with Addi Benler scoring 17 points and Reagan Murphy with 10.

JV - Middletown 34  FSK 22     In a rematch from early in the season, Middletown outlasted FSK today 34-22.  Both teams came out shooting in the first quarter in a fast-paced quarter, which saw Middletown lead 9-6 after one.  FSK closed the distance in the second quarter after deploying different looks, holding Middletown to 3 points and squaring things up at the half, 12-12.  Middletown slowly pulled away in the second half thanks to timely scoring and ramped up defense, which saw the home team outscore the visitors 22-10.  The leading scorers for Middletown were Stella Fogle with 8, Lily Kopelson and Juliana Grady with 6, Avery Sacchetti with 5, and McKinna Hidalgo with 4.  FSK was led in scoring by Nadalie Rill with 14, Lil Honeycutt with 3, and Raegon Dietz and Ava Senseny with 2. 

V – Clear Spring 28 Poolesville 21    The Lady Blazers would host the Poolesville Falcons in Sundays varsity action with a final score Blazers 28 - Falcons 21. Both teams started out strong defensively with a low scoring first quarter. However, in the second quarter the Blazers would outscore the Falcons 13-5 and take a 17-11 lead into halftime. After the break the Blazers would come out in the 3rd quarter and shut out the Falcons from scoring while adding 5 points to their lead. The Falcons kept on battling and were able to cut the lead down to 6 points in the fourth, however the Blazers would finish strong at the foul line, sealing the win 28-21. The Falcon’s leading scorer was Jones with 9 points. The Blazers were led by Hensley with 9 points. Good luck to both teams in the playoffs.

JV – Poolesville 50 Clear Spring 34 The lady Blazers hosted the Poolesville Flacons today with the last game of the regular season for both teams ending in a Falcons 50-34 victory. Both teams wanted to win this one bad today and left it all on the floor. The Blazers would come out tough in the first quarter working against the fierce Poolesville press to lead 8-6 at the end of the first period. The second quarter would see the Falcons swope in and go on a 22-3 run behind 11 of Stanton’s game high 15 points. The Falcons would take a 28-14 lead into halftime. The third quarter would see the Blazers start to edge back, winning the quarter 11-8, making it 36-25 heading into the 4th. Britton from the Blazers would score 4 of her 10 points in the first few mins of the 4th along with a few foul shots to cut the lead to 5 with 3:30 left in the 4th. The Blazers’ foul trouble would catch up to them and the Falcons reapplied the pressure and would end the game with a 16 point lead. The Falcons were led by Stanton’s 15 points, Mauer had 10 points, Weyrauch with 8 points, and White with 7 points. The Blazers were led by Britton with 10 points and Brown would chip in 6 points.

V - Monocacy 48 Catoctin 25    Catoctin hosted undefeated Monocacy on Saturday afternoon in what they knew was an uphill battle. With only 3 eighth graders available and relying on gassed JV starters Catoctin came out strong . Four different players scored and Catoctin led 8-7 after one period. Monocacy then came alive in the second period led by Sophia Burgee’s 11 points in the quarter to grab a halftime lead of 24-11. The third period was pretty close as Leah French kept Catoctin in it with 7 points in the quarter. Monocacy led 35-18 heading to the final frame. The relentless press of Monocacy worn down Catoctin in the final period and they went on to win 48-25. Burgee led Monocacy with 21 points, Melissa Yeboah and McKenna Long each had 8 points, Laney Baer had 7 points and Annabelle Horst had 4 for the winners. French led Catoctin with 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Alice Watson had 6 points on two, three pointers, Abby Morlan had 4 points and 4 rebounds and Ellaina Case, Emmalin Tyeryar and Austin Droneburg all had 2 points.

JV - Catoctin 31 Monocacy 25   Lady Mustangs traveled to Catoctin High School to face off with the Lady Cougars. The defense was hot right off the start of the game with solid performances from both benches.  The first quarter was a tight game with Monocacy getting into foul trouble quickly. The great show of defense kept the score 4-4 going in the first quarter.  Lady Cougars stepped up with their shooting game during the second quarter with a 3 point shot from Abby Morlan that pushed the Cougars to a 19-11 lead point going into the half.  Lady Mustangs stepped up their defense the second half of the game. Lady Mustangs had a spread of points across the bench with big points from J. Albaugh, J. Neely, N. Saxon and C. Moxley in the third quarter. 

Lady Cougars responded in 4th quarter with solid defense with holding the Lady Mustangs to just 4 points. A. Droneburg stepped up her offensive game with 5 points in the quarter. Great shooting game from J. Albaugh (9) and N. Saxon (7) with multiple other players with 2 points for the Lady Mustangs.

V - Oakdale 55  Walkersville 28     The Walkersville Lions hosted the Oakdale Bears on a snowy Saturday afternoon for the Lions’ eighth grade night. The Lions recognized eight eighth graders: Naila Ali-Goukoye, Koen McDonald, Amelie Pittinger, Calissa Bracken, Gianna Walmsley, Em Bolino, Maggie Mayfield, and Dayana Quiah. Walkersville started the game with foul trouble, sending Oakdale to the line for 15 free throws in the first quarter. The Bears led 17-9 by the end of the first. The second quarter showed better defense from both teams, while Oakdale continued their offense runs, scoring 16 points and holding Walkersville to 3. Halftime score was 33-12. The third quarter continued the same space, ending 49-17 Bears. Walkersville picked up their energy to finish the game, scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter but couldn’t outlast Oakdale, who won 55-28. Oakdale was led by Evyn Bova and Lillian Leon with 12 points each. Walkersville was led by Naila Ali-Goukoye with a season-high 18 points and Harper McLellan with 4 points.

JV - Walkersville 32  Oakdale 22      The Lady Lions hosted Oakdale on Saturday afternoon. Both teams came out fighting the first half with the score at halftime being 15-14 Walkersville. The Lady Lions came out determined to extend their lead even more. Both teams fought hard til the finish. End of game score being 32-22 Walkersville. Oakdale was led by Paige VanLeeuwen with 7 points, Faith Bingham with 6 points, and Tallulah Hammel with 5 points. Walkersville was led by Payton Frank with 15 points, and Payton Zile and Gina Douds with 6 points. 

V - Linganore 35  FSK 24    Linganore hosted FSK at Linganore High School on Saturday night.  FSK's Cheyenne Sinnot led all scorers with 15 points; however, Linganore got the victory with tough defense and balanced team scoring. Linganore put up 10 points in both the first and second periods and took a 20-10 lead into halftime.  Both teams played tough defense in the second half, with Linganore outscoring FSK 8-4 in the third period and FSK outscoring Linganore 10-7 in the fourth period. Linganore, who got points from nine different players, was led by Marleigh Salb and Rachel Tomaski with 6 points, Anna Doy with 5 points, and Mikaela Nixon and McKenzie Kelly with 4 points each.  In addition to Sinnot's 15 points, FSK got 6 points from Nevaeh Dotson and 2 points from Ava Himes.

JV - Linganore 32  FSK 27    The Linganore Lancers took on the FSK Lady Eagles in a Saturday night matchup, with Linganore prevailing with a 32-27 victory. Both teams got off to a slow start in the first quarter, struggling to get any traction as Linganore held a slim lead of five to four after one. The second quarter was completely different as the Lancers ramped up the pace and pressure, established a lead and never looked back. The Lancers outscored the Eagles 12-7 in the quarter, and took a 17-11 lead at the break. The third quarter was much like the second quarter with the Lancers maintaining their advantage, outscoring the Eagles 10-6 in the quarter, and holding a 27-17 lead after three quarters. While the Lady Eagles made a strong push, narrowing the gap in the fourth quarter, which also proved to be their strongest quarter of the game, the deficit was ultimately too much and the comeback feel just short. The Eagles outscored the Lancers 10-5 in the quarter, but fell short with a 32-27 Lancer victory. FSK was led by Reese Smith and Nadalie Rill, as they both had 11 points each. On the Linganore side, Natalie Corrigan led all scorers with 14 points, while Kennedy Poffenbarger and Maia Medellin scoring six points each.

V – Mt Airy 44  Ballenger Creek 40   The varsity  Lady Bulldogs faced the Mt Airy Bulldogs in their final regular  season game. The Mt Airy Bulldogs pulled out the win 44-40. First quarter the Mt Airy Bulldogs came out strong on the offensive side going up big in the first quarter 13-2. Second quarter the Lady Bulldogs answered back scoring 13 points cutting the Mt Airy Bulldogs lead to 4 at the half. Second half Mt Airy Bulldogs went up  big in the 3rd quarter going up by as many as 17 points in the third quarter. The Mt Airy Bulldogs took the lead at the end of the third quarter 34-19. Fourth quarter the Lady Bulldogs never gave up. The Lady Bulldogs cut the Mt Airy Bulldogs lead within 3. As time  expired the Mt Airy Bulldogs prevailed. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Olivia Meyers with 29 points. Olivia Meyers help the Lady Bulldogs  with their comeback scoring 16 of her 29 points in the fourth quarter. Eliana Alfaro chipped in 6 points. The Mt Airy Lady Bulldogs was led by both Lily Kaye and Kellyn McCarthy with 11 points. Elise Uhliq chipped in 9 points. Charlotte Richardson added 6 points.

JV – Ballenger Creek 23  Mt Airy 22    The Jv Lady Bulldogs hosted Mt Airy Lady Bulldogs at Ballenger's arena. The Lady Bulldogs sealed the win over Mt Airy Lady Bulldogs 23-22 in a thriller Saturday morning snowy day.  Both teams started off slow on the offensive side The Mt Airy Lady Bulldogs came out strong towards the end of the first quarter going up 9-6 at the end of the first quarter. Second quarter Lady Bulldogs and Mt Airy Bulldogs went bucket to bucket with different lead changes and the Mt Airy Bulldogs took the lead at half 13-12. Second half Lady Bulldogs came out alittle flat with turnovers and the Mt Airy Bulldogs would convert points off of turnovers. After a timeout was called the Lady Bulldogs made adjustments taking the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter 21-19.  Fourth was a thrilling quarter. The Lady Bulldogs took the lead within 4 with 2 mintues left. The Mt. Airy  Lady Bulldogs cut the Lady Bulldogs lead within 1. The Mt Airy Bulldogs forced a turnover on the Lady Bulldogs with time expiring the Lady Bulldogs held on and prevailed the victory. The Mt Airy Bulldogs was led by Lily Grubic with 7 points. Maddy Janyskta and Maddie Hancock chipped in 4 points. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Emily Le with 7 points. Clara Main chipped in 6 points.Arianna Tineo  added 5 points. Amaya Darrell contributed 4 points 

V – Urbana 38  West Frederick 27   The Lady Cadets Varsity team hosted the Urbana Hawks on Saturday February 15, 2025. The Cadets started with a 16-13 Cadets. The Hawks kept their momentum going in to the second half and managed to keep the Cadets to only scoring 3 points in the 3rd quarter. The Hawks kept their energy high to end the game as fatigue started to set in for the Cadets. Top scorer leading all scorers was the Hawks Teagan Pyles with 16 points. Top scorers for the Cadets were Reagan Henderson with 10 points, Shaniah Swanson with 8 points, and Nuria Timm with 5 points. Other scorers for the Hawks were Kirsten Behrsing with 11 points and Dakota Washington with 7 points. 38-27 Hawks

JV – Urbana 31  West Frederick 21    The WFMS’s Cadets struggled the entire game with the Urbana Hawks pressure defense. With a 20 to 10 first half lead the Cadets tried a push in the third period quarter got them closer but the Hawks finished the fourth quarter with their pressure pressing and the Cadets were unable to break it and lost to the Hawks 31 to 21.

 

 

 

Game Summaries for 2/9/25

 

V – FSK 39  West Frederick 25   The lady Eagles were able to win all 4 quarters in this hard-fought matchup, cruising to victory with an active Defense, and balanced scoring attack. Could this be a sign of what’s to come for any teams named Eagles on this Super Sunday? We will see.   FSK’s Ryan Rutter led all scorers dropping in 14 points. She was followed by both Naveah Dotson, and Cheyenne Sinnot adding 6 each.

West Frederick’s team high in points was Nuria Timm, with a tough earned 10 points down low. Reagan Henderson added another 7.

 

JV – FSK 37  West Frederick 35   For anyone who made it out to Union Bridge on this super Sunday, this was a game they won't soon forget. The game was close through 3 tight quarters, with FSK building a 7-point lead heading into the final quarter. Nadalie Rill from FSK had a game-high 25 points, with Allison Hagan adding another 6.

West Frederick was led in scoring by Cally Rammano totaling 14, and Harper Chapman chipping in another 7. West Frederick put it all together in the 4th cutting and ultimately taking a 2-point lead late. As time expired FSK’s Lily Potts had a putback at the rim to send this game to not 1, BUT 2 overtimes where FSK was able to squeeze out the victory in the end. Fans needed some Tums after this back-and-forth, entertaining game.

 

 V- Urbana 27   Windsor Knolls 21    The Windsor Knolls Lady Wolverines hosted their cross town rival Lady Hawks from Urbana Sunday morning! The game started off slow as each team playing good defense. The first quarter ended with WK leading 5-2.  The second quarter was back and fort changes as Urbana hit a few shots at the end to lead 13-11 at the half.   The second half started with some aggressive play by the hawks that led to points. WKs battled back but were unable to close the gap. Urbana took the win with a 27-21 victory.

The Hawks scoring was led by Madison Manquiai’s 7. Washington, Pyles, and Behrsine each added 5 points.  Audrey Langham and Kimora Saunders led WK with 6 points each. It was a hard fought game by both teams!

 

V - Ballenger Creek 37 Mt. Airy 25    Ballenger Creek visited Mt Airy in a matchup of the top two teams in the standings headed into the last week of the regular season.  BC jumped out to an early 14-7 first quarter lead and never looked back.  Olivia Meyers (19 points) hit a big 3 before the half to push the visiting Bulldogs out to a 21-11 halftime lead.  The second half was much the same as Mt. Airy just could not get going offensively,  Ballenger Creek went on to win by a final 37-25.  The two teams will meet again next week.  Olivia Meyers led Ballenger Creek with 19 points and Eliana Alfaro had 8.  Mt. Airy was led by Lily Kayes 8 points while Julissa Almonte had 7.

 

JV - Mt Airy 27 Ballenger Creek 20    Mt Airy hosted Ballenger Creek on Super Bowl Sunday. The game was close throughout. Kendall Cohen got the scoring started for Mt Airy with six first half points. Emily Le scored five to keep Ballenger close. Mt Airy led 8-7 at halftime. The scoring picked up in the second half. Lily Grubic scored 8 of her game high 15 in the third quarter to help Mt Airy extend their lead 19-16. Pressure from Mt Airys defense created turnover and scoring opportunities in the fourth quarter. Amaya Darrell hit a big three pointer late for Ballenger to close the gap but the lead was too much to overcome. Mt Airy was led by Grubic with 15 and Cohen with 7. For Ballenger Darrell scored 9 and Le contributed 7.

JV - Boonsboro 34 Crestwood 6    Crestwood hosted Boonsboro in an exciting matchup, with both teams playing well during the first half. Boonsboro led at halftime with a score of 9-4. However, Boonsboro came out strong after the break and quickly took control of the game. Juls led Boonsboro with 14 points, while Crestwood had a balanced scoring effort from Eliana Morris, Brooklyn Williams, and Nia Bowens, each contributing two points.

V - Brunswick 48, Smithsburg 37     In a snow make-up meeting, Smithsburg’s Leopards traveled to Brunswick on Super Bowl Sunday in a game that saw the Railroaders pull out all the stops in the second half to win 48-37. The game pitted talls (accounting for forty-six of the total points) in the paint against outside shooting threats (eight three-pointers). Four athletes scored in double digits. Brunswick’s Clara Nichols led all scorers with a career high 18 points, including five three-pointers (50 percent from deep, five rebounds, and 100 percent from the line). Madison Greenwood had twelve. Smithburg’s Camryn Gouff led the Leopards with 14 (perfect from the line)  and Hillary Sagba stepped up with ten points. The Leopards struck first behind Lilly Becker’s three pointer. Smithsburg sat patiently in their two-three zone letting Brunswick to learn to trust passing the ball around the arc. Nichols answered with back-to-back threes for Brunswick. Starting Roader point guard Addie Hsu exited the game with a knee injury. Zoe Shuster (six points) put in four for Smithsburg. The first quarter closed even at 11. Rebounds dominated the second quarter where Smithsburg’s Gouff put in eight points followed by Brunswick’s Madison Greenwood with seven. The Roaders’ three-two zone could not stop second chances for Smithsburg. Roader Maya Lowery (five rebounds, three assists) hit from deep, but the Leopards surged into the half leading 24-23. Going into the third quarter Smithsburg again scored first, but Brunswick put together their biggest third quarter of the season. Changing to a two-three defense that saw Clare Butler and Elle Putnam (each with an assist) to shine up top, six Roaders scored including Ashlynn Lefever, Galilee Shullenbarger (perfect from the free throw line, eight rebounds, four assists), Addison Eye (five points, two assists), and Kimber Mercer (nine rebounds). Smithburg only mustered five points for the quarter. The game’s energy and momentum slowed in the fourth quarter. Emma Smith (four points) and Gouff each scored for the Leopards adding four in the quarter. Brunswick’s Serenity Morris (four points) scored as the Roaders continued to rain threes behind Eye and Nichols giving their team eight points to steam to the victory.

JV Smithsburg 44  Brunswick 39     Smithsburg and Brunswick locked up in an instant classic, with the Leopards pulling away late to capture the 44-39 win.   Camryn Gouff and Vivian Malott led the way for Smithsburg, with 16 points a piece.  Rylie Ciccarelli added 8 for the winners.  For the Railroaders, Kayla Ciccarelli scored a game high 19 points to lead the way, while Karis Phillips, Katie Paschalides, and Josie Spevak each chipped in with 6 points a piece.  Smithsburg led 20-11 at the half, and 30-21 after 3 quarters.  Brunswick would tie the score midway through the 4th quarter, but a late Leopard run would seal the victory for Smithsburg.

V – Oakdale 49 Clear Spring 18    The Lady Blazers hosted Oakdale on this Super Bowl Sunday, which ended in a Oakdale win 49-18. The first half both teams would show their defensive toughness as neither one could get shots to fall. The halftime score was 22-10 Oakdale. Coming out of halftime, Oakdale asserted its height advantage and would win the 3rd quarter 18-4 and cruise to 49-18 final score. The Blazers were led by Pinkston with 6 points. Oakdale would have 10 girls make the box score and was led by Bales and Doyle with 9 points apiece.

JV – Oakdale 30 Clear Spring 24 The Lady Blazers JV hosted Oakdale ending in an Oakdale win 30-24. This would be a defensive battle from the start and a game in which both teams struggled to score efficiently. The halftime score was 10-10. The 3rd quarter would see more offense as girls from both teams would continue to get to the line. The score was 19-17 Oakdale heading into the 4th. The last period would be a back-and-forth game; however, Oakdale would manage to outlast the Blazers to win the game. The Blazer’s leading scorer was Blair with 6 points. Oakdale was led by Gonzales with 10 points and seven other Oakdale players would contribute baskets

V - Monocacy 73  Walkersville 11     Sophia Burgee had a double-double scoring 28 points with 10 steals to lead Monocacy to a 73-11 win over Walkersville.The winners exploded in the first half scoring 44 points while holding Walkersville to 4 points.Melissa Yeboah helped pace Monocacy with 16 points,6 assists and 6 steals.Mckenna Long added 12 points,and Annabelle Horst had 5 points and 7 rebounds.Laney Baer controlled the boards with 9 rebounds. Walkersville leading scorer was Naila Ali-Goukoye with 7 points including a three-pointer.

JV - Monocacy 43  Walkersville 17      Monocacy and Walkersville JV teams met Sunday at Thomas Johnson High School.  Walkersville started strong with aggressive defense and held Monocacy to a single field goal in the first quarter.  Walkersville converted five free throws and led 7-2 at the end of the first.  Monocacy got rolling in the second quarter lead by Abby Tootill who came off the bench and ignited a Monocacy run with field goals from five different players resulting in 16 points for Monocacy and a 18-8 halftime lead.  The third quarter was much like the second; Monocacy got field goals from six different players led by 6 points from Natalie Saxon and 4 each from Alora Turner and Kaylee Hnath.  Monocacy led 38-13 at the end of the third quarter.  The teams traded scores and free throws in the fourth quarter and Monocay cruised to a 43-17 win.  Natalie Saxon from Monocacy led all scorers with 12 points, followed by Alora Turner, Abby Tootil and Hazel Gomex with 6 points each, Jaclyn Albaugh with 5 and Charlotte Moxley and Kaylee Hnath with 4 points each.  Jay'Lynn Adams led Walkersville with 6 points, followed by 4 from Payton Frank, 3 from Payton Zile and Emma Waltz and Gina Douds with 2 points each.

V - North Hagerstown 44  Poolesville 24     North Hagerstown hosted poolesvile for the 2nd time this year ended in a Queens victory 44-24 Knight lead all scorers with 19 pts , Tunner 7pts, Sanders 6pts, Morris 5 pts, Gingrich 4pts, and Queen ended the game with a 3 pointer. Poolesville Jones had 8pts, both Shelton and Charbonneau 5pts , Pazicky 4 pts, and Jackson 2 pts 

JV - Poolesville  43  North Hagerstown  7    North Hagerstown hosted poolesvile for the 2nd time this year ended in a Poolesville victory 43-7 Maver lead all scorers with 10 pts, Stanton 7pts, Urquilla 6pts, Slonski 5pts, Hetron 3pts, and Weyrauah 1 pts   North Hagerstown Queens Ware 3 pts, jalloh 2pts, and Normil &Evans finished with 1 pt.

V - Mt Airy 51 Clear Spring 37    Mount Airy (9-2) hosted Clear Spring (2-9) in a rematch from earlier in the season.  The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 10-2 lead before Clear Spring went on a 11-2 run to close the quarter to take a 13-12 lead.  Mount Airy took a five point lead into the half after a big second quarter from Charlotte RIchardson and Julissa Almonte.  The Bulldogs led by Elise Uhlig (16 points) took a 14 point lead heading into the fourth quarter but Clear Spring kept fighting back pullin within 8 several times.  In the end the balanced scoring and relentless pressure proved to be too much as Mount AIry went on to win 51-37.  Mount Airy was led by Elise Uhlig (16 points), Lily Kaye (12 points), and Julissa Almonte and Charlotte Richardson (10 points).  While Clear Spring had standout performances from Alyssa Stewart and Khloe Hensley who scored 9 points.

JV - Clear Spring 37 Mt Airy 27    Mt Airy started strong and played solid defense. Lily Grubic scored 10 in the first half leading the Bulldogs to an 18-15 lead at halftime. Another six points from Grubic helped Mt Airy extend the lead to 24-18 going into the fourth quarter. The Blazers turned up the pressure and outscored Mt Airy 19-3 in the last quarter to steal the win. Clear Spring was led by Charis Britton with 13 points and Julia Brown with 8. Lily Grubic led all scorers with 19 points for Mt Airy and Maddy Janyska also contributed 5 points in the loss.

V - FSK 52  Boonsboro 20      The Eagles used a smothering press and an active defense to stifle the Lady Warriors from the onset. FSK’s Cheyenne Sinnot had a game high 21 points. With Ryan Rutter dropping 12 of her own.  Boonsboro was led in scoring by Jailyne Hammerman with 7. Harper Mullendore added another 5.  The FSK Eagles were victorious today in this hard-fought matchup

JV – Boonsboro 30  FSK 26     Francis Scott Key was visited by the Lady Warriors from Boonsboro on this blustery Saturday afternoon in Union Bridge. Boonsboro took the lead into the half and held off a late push by FSK to make it an exciting game down to the last horn. Boonsboro used a game-high, 15 from Juls Wetzel, and another 7 from Grace Smith to take the visiting victory.  FSK was led in scoring by Nadalie Rill with a team-high 8. Reese Smith fought hard for another 7.

V – Catoctin 34  West Fredeick 24   The Lady Cadets Varsity team hosted the Catoctin Cougars on Saturday February 8, 2025. The Cadets had a slow start but managed to turn it up with Victoria Clayton hitting two 3 pointers to get the offense moving ending the first quarter 11-10 Cadets. The Cougars picked it up in the 2nd quarter out scoring the Cadets ending the half 17-15 Cougars.  The Cougars came out just as strong to start the second half sealing their win in this Cadets vs Cougars rematch. Top scorer leading all scorers was Alice Watson with 11 points. Top scorers for the Cadets were Shaniah Swanson with 8 points, Victoria Clayton with 6 points and Reagan Henderson with 4 points. Other scorers for the Cougars were Leah French with 9 points and Abby Morgan with 6 points. 34-24 Cougars

JV – Catoctin 42  West Frederick 21      The West FREDERICK middle school girls JV team played Catoctin Cougars jv girls and was handed a defeat by the hot shooters of (5) Watson 16 pts and (23) Mohler 8 pts.The Cadets were having a hard time trying to put points in the basket. Cadets high scores were Chapman (11) 9 pts and Romano (23) 8 pts.  That 19 pts 1st quarter by the Cougars set the tone for the game and the Cadets were unable to make a run or recover from that point

V - Monocacy 47  Oakdale 26    It was the second match-up of the season for these two leading Chesapeake Division teams. At the end of the half, Monocacy led Oakdale by 5 (22-17). An unstoppable Sophia Burgee led Monocacy with 18 of the 22 points (including 3 three-pointers). McKenna Long and Annabelle Horst rounded out Monocacy’s scoring with two points each. Lillian Leon led Oakdale in scoring with 8 of her 10 points in the first half. Other Bears’ contributors in the first half were Bri Sims (3), Jamie Graham, Aubrey Doyle, and Evyn Bova (2). Monocacy took a page from their younger sister‘s playbook and came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring Oakdale 18-4. Oakdale tried to battle back, but both teams held each other to single digits in the fourth quarter. Sophia Burgee continued to be a thorn in the Lady Bears’ paw in the second half and added 10 more points (total 28). Melissa Yeboah dropped 9 points and Laney Baer came up with 3 in the third quarter. Annabelle Horst added a 3-pointer to her day in the 4th, for a total of 5.

The Bova twins tried to gain some momentum in the second half, Evyn with an additional 4 points (total 6) and Liz dropping a 3-pointer, but the damage was already done.

JV - Monocacy 30  Oakdale 9    Oakdale Bears hosted Monocacy Saturday afternoon. The game began as their last match-up ended a couple weeks ago. Both teams played tough defense through the first half and Monocacy led Oakdale 8-6 at halftime. The half-time break brought new life to Monocacy and they outscored the Lady Bears in the third quarter 18-2. Oakdale brought their defense back in the fourth quarter holding Monocacy to just four points, but it was a little too late. For Monocacy, Alora Turner led with 10 points, Abigail Toothill dropped 8, Jaclyn Albaugh and Natalie Saxon had 5, and Jocelyn Neely had 2 points.

Oakdale’s scorers were Reagan McElwee, Gabby Gonzales, Tallulah Hammel, Grace Zoberbier (2), and Anna Mills (1).

V - Linganore 39  Brunswick 22     Linganore hosted Brunswick Railroaders on Saturday night at Linganore High School with a victory of 39-22.  Linganore's Anna Doy led all scorers, scoring 8 of her game high 10 points in the first period.  Linganore scored a total of 13 points in the first 7 minutes of the game, while keeping Brunswick scoreless.   In the second period, Linganore scored 11 points while Brunswick put up 8 points, including 3-pointers from Galilee Shullenbarger and Clara Nichols.  After taking a 24-8 lead into halftime, Linganore came out strong in the third period and outscored Brunswick 13-5.  Brunswick continued to play hard, and with the help of 3-pointers from Elle Putman and Serenity Morris, they outscored Linganore 9-2 in the final period.  Linganore had a healthy 37-13 lead going into the fourth period and was able to hold on for the win.  In addition to Doy's 10 points, Linganore also got 9 points from McKenzie Kelly and 5 points from Avianna Gorski.  Brunswick was led by Nichols with 8 points, Serenity Morris with 5 points, and Shullenbarger with 4 points.

JV - Linganore 51 Brunswick 19    The JV Linganore Lancers girls hosted the JV Brunswick Railroaders and after a slow start, pulled away in a 51-19 victory. In the first quarter, both teams started slow as it wasn't until midway through the first quarter, when both teams started to gain traction. After the first quarter, Linganore led 10-4. The second quarter turned out to be the difference maker in the game as the Lancers outscored the Railroaders 22-0 in the quarter thanks for their full court pressure and picking up the pace. The Lancers took a commanding 32-4 lead going into halftime. The Railroaders came out in the third quarter and got on a run as Brunswick's Annabelle Boyer scored all seven of her points in the quarter helping the Railroaders outscore the Lancers 13-10 in the quarter. At the end of the third quarter, the Lancers led 42-17. As the 4th quarter went on, the Lancers half-court defense and transition game was ultimately too much, with the Lancers outscoring the Railroaders nine to two in the quarter and with a 51-19 victory. The Lancers were led by Natalie Corrigan with a game high 20 points, followed by Kennedy Poffenbarger with nine and McKinley Hinkle with six points. The Railroaders were led by Boyer with seven points, followed by Makayla Ciccarelli with five points. 

JV - Smithsburg 34  Crestwood 16     Crestwood welcomed Smithburg for a highly intense and hard-fought game, where both teams played with great determination. Smithburg was led by standout performances from Camryn Goff, who scored 21 points, and Vivian Malott, who added eight. On the Crestwood side, Eliana Morris was the top scorer with eight points, while Brooklyn Williams contributed five.

V - Linganore 48  Smithsburg 23     Linganore hosted Smithsburg at New Market Middle School on Monday night.  It was a close game after the first period with Linganore holding a slim 11-7 lead.  Linganore outscored Smithsburg 13-7 in the second period and took a 24-14 lead into halftime.  The third period was similar to the first with Linganore scoring 11 points to Smithsburg's 7 points.  Both teams hustled and played hard but Linganore closed out the victory by scoring another 13 points in the fourth period while holding Smithsburg to just 2 points.  Each team sank four 3-pointers throughout the game, and both teams were clutch from the free throw line.  Linganore's Mckenzie Kelly led all scorers with 16 points.  Linganore also got 11 points from Marleigh Salb and 6 points each from Shaina Mehta and Tori Capone.  Smithsburg was led by Lilly Becker with 8 points (including two 3-pointers), Emma Smith with 5 points, and Camryn Gouff and Hillary Sagba with 4 points each.   

JV- Linganore 57 Smithsburg 13    Linganore JV Lancers hosted the lady Smithsburg Leopards in what turned out to be a wire to wire win largely thanks to Lancers defense with a final score of 57-13. The Lancers came out fast applying full court defense, creating turnovers, getting out to a first quarter lead of 12-5. The second quarter was much like the first as the Lancers used a 14-0 run to create all the separation they needed. Lancers went into halftime with a commanding 33-8 lead. As the second half got underway, the Leopards continued to fight hard despite being outscored 10-3 in the quarter. Linganore held a 43-11 lead. The Lancers continued their momentum in the 4th quarter, outscoring the Leopards 14-2 in the quarter, onward to a 57-13 final. The Lancers were led by Natalie Corrigan with a game high 18 points, followed by Kara Crawford chipping in nine points. The Leopards were led by Camryn Gouff with nine points, followed by Natalie Smith with four points. 

JV- Windsor Knolls 24   Urbana 19      The Windsor Knolls Lady Wolverines hosted their cross town rival Lady Hawks from Urbana in an epic thriller! The game started off slow as each team was trying to figure out how to attack and break each other's press.. The first quarter ended with WK leading 6-3.  The second half was back and forth lead changes as Urbana hit a last second shot to tie the score at 12-12 at the half.   The second half continued with great defense by both teams. Urbana held WK to just two points in the 3rd qtr. Urbana led 17-14 going into the fourth. Late in the final quarter WK was able to hit some clutch shots and got some steals all turning into points. The Wolverines were able to pull away in the final minute of play to win by 5 points.

 The Hawks scoring was led by Eva Zeng 8 points and Dru Joseph 6 points. Emerson Jarvis and Sophia Villegas each got 2 followed by Anabel Murphy 1 point.  Chloe Merriwether led WK with 7 points followed by Annabel Shelhorse with 5.  Ella Muise and Rylie Motes 4 points each followed by Grace Rahmati 2 and Ellie Shearer 2. It was a hard fought game by both teams!

 

 

Game Summaries for 2/2/25

V - Monocacy 55   FSK 40     On this blustery Sunday in Union Bridge, the lady Eagles were visited by Monocacy. The Eagles had a difficult time stopping the Monocacy offense in all 4 quarters. Monocacy ultimately used this balanced attack to come out victorious.   Monocacy’s Sophia Burgee scored a game-high 17 points. She was followed by both Annabelle Horst and Melissa Yeboah, chipping in an impressive 14 each.  FSK was led in scoring by Cheyenne Sinnot, scoring 16. Followed by Naveah Dotson with 6.

 

JV - Monocacy 44  FSK 21   Both teams fought hard in Sunday's game in Union Bridge. Monocacy fired off early, taking a 10-point lead after the first period. Natalie Saxon scored a game-high 24 points, and Alora Turner scored another 12. FSK made a little push after the half, but ultimately, the day belonged to Monocacy. The Eagles were led in scoring by Nadalie Rill with 10. Allison Hagan chipped in a scrappy 6 points.

 

V – Clear Spring 46 Williamsport 36    The Lady Blazers took their first home win of the season against the Wildcats of Williamsport 46-36. The first half was a tight battle as the Wildcats would get to the line multiple times and convert while the Blazers worked the ball inside and out to score. The halftime score was 18-17 for the Blazers. The third quarter the Blazers would put their foot on the gas and lock down defensively to pull away going on a 17-3 run in the quarter. The final quarter the Wildcats would try and mount a comeback as Cauffman would score 8 of her 18 points in the fourth. However, the Blazers Pinkston would answer with 9 points of her 17 points. Final score Blazers 46 – Wildcats 36. The Wildcats Cauffman has 18 points and Koerting and Magaha would each have 5 points. The Blazers Pinkston would have 17 points, Beals had 8, and Hensley chipped in 6 points on top of her excellent defensive effort!

 

JV – Clear Spring 35 Williamsport 5 The lady Blazers hosted the Williamsport Wildcats today leading to a Blazers victory 35-5. The Blazers would play tough on defense only allowing one basket and a foul shot by Leasure along with Schnebly and Smith making one foul shot a piece. The Blazers would have eight players find the bottom of the hoop and were led by Brown with 8 points and Barr with 6 points in the victory.

 

V - Windsor Knolls 24  Ballenger Creek 14     Windsor Knolls hosted Ballenger Creek Sunday afternoon. The game started fast for the Lady Wolverine’s, scoring 4 buckets in the first quarter. The Lady Wolverines were able to establish a solid press creating points.  Ballenger Creek changed up their defense and slowed down the Wolverine offense. At end of the first half WK was up 14-6 over Ballenger Creek. The second half started with the Lady Bulldogs closing the gap but Windsor Knolls was able to withstand the pressure. Ballenger Creek was led by Eliano Alfaro with 8 pts, Alyssa Buchanan had 4 and Kaitlin Harrison had 2.  Windsor Knolls was led by Josie Shipley with 7 points, Kimora Saunders  had 5. Kayleigh Golden, Audrey Langham and Allyson Petrie each had 4.

 

JV - Windsor Knolls 46  Ballenger Creek 21     Windsor Knolls hosted a well coached and feisty Ballenger Creek team Sunday afternoon. The game started fast for both teams, each scoring on their first possessions. The Lady Wolverines were able to establish a solid press creating a lot of turnovers into points.  The end of the first quarter WK was up 16-6 over Ballenger Creek. At the half the Wolverines were leading 32-11.  The second half the Lady Bulldogs kept fighting but Windsor Knolls was able to withstand the pressure. Ballenger Creek was led by Amaya Darrell with 9 pts, Logan Achten and Emily Le 4 pts each. Arianna Tineo and Adyson Horman 2 pts each.  Windsor Knolls top scoring was split between Chloe Merriwether and Annabel Shellhorse with 12 each. Followed by Ellie Shearer 8 pts, Ella Muise and Rylie Motes 4pts each. Kylie Gecelosky, Veda Pydiganta and Megan Crowell each contributed 2 points each. 

 

 V - Linganore 27 Boonsboro 11    The Lancers traveled to Boonsboro Sunday and came away with a 27 – 11 win.  The Lancers led 14-0 after one quarter.  The Warriors settled in with the Lancers winning the final three quarters 13-11.  Both teams played strong defensive basketball.  The Lancers were led by McKenzie Kelly with twelve and Brooklyn Dommel with five.  Five other Lancers scored a basket each.  The Warriors were led by Harper Mullendore and Caroline Plumadore with three points each and stellar defensive efforts by Madalyn Wheeler and Kennedy Kirkpatrick.

 

JV - Linganore 38  Boonsboro 19    Linganore stormed out of the gates with impressive momentum and intensity, establishing a commanding 19-5 lead by the end of the first quarter. Boonsboro struggled against the Lancer defense, shots were up, just not falling. Despite the early deficit, Boonsboro's leading scorer Grace Smith (7 points) provided a spark, hitting a buzzer-beating three-pointer to finish the first half. Although the Lady Warriors showed renewed intensity in the second half, they couldn't overcome the offensive firepower of Linganore's Natalie Corrigan (15 points) and Kennedy Poffenberger (11 points).

 

JV - Boonsboro 30  Crestwood 26     Rescheduled and ready, Crestwood and Boonsboro delivered a hard-fought and impressive contest. The Cadets battled valiantly from start to finish, demonstrating grit and determination. Leading the charge for Crestwood were Addie Murray with 7 points and Eliana Morris with 6. Boonsboro's offensive efforts were fueled by Delaney Slough (9 points) and Grace Smith (8 points).

 

V - West Frederick 45  Walkersville 21    The Lions hosted the Cadets for the late Sunday evening game. West Frederick came to play with an early 1st quarter lead, 12-7. Holding Walkersville to only 2 free throws in the second quarter, the Cadets extended their lead to 19-9. With a strong defense and a number of steals, West Frederick had a 14-point third quarter, while holding Walkersville to another 2-point quarter. The Lions finally found some offense, scoring 10 points in the fourth, but it didn’t match up with the Cadets’ speed. West Frederick won, 45-21. The Lions were led by Naila Ali-Goukoye with 11 points. The Cadets were led by Shaniah Swanson with 13 points and Kaleah Hayes with 8 points. 

 

JV - West Frederick 26  Walkersville 18    Walkersville hosted West Frederick Sunday evening. The game started out tight with West Frederick being up by 1 at halftime. West Frederick came out after the half and started to pull away to get their win. West Frederick was led by Cally Romano with 12 points and Harper Chapman with 7 points. Walkersville was led by Payton Zile 8 points and Jaylynn Adams with 4 points.

 

V - Brunswick 36  North Hagerstown 30     Mid-Maryland A Tournament fifth seed North Hagerstown and sixth seed Brunswick crossed paths in a tightly contested game that saw Brunswick secure a 36-30 victory. Fouls plagued both teams with the Roaders committing 19 and the Hubs 16 over the course of the afternoon that saw 40 free throws shot. Dalzaya Knight scored a game high 20 points as she carried the Hubs through the first and third quarters, going to the line 12 times, and nailing two three pointers. The Roaders moved out to a 4 point lead behind scoring by Galilee Shullenbarger (13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals) in the first quarter only to have Knight answer with 6 of her own for the Hubs. Tough defense on key plays outside the arc by Clare Butler, Madison Greenwood, Clara Nichols, Elle Putnam continued to frustrate North Hagerstown. Brunswick's Maya Lowery (five rebounds) would send the game into the second quarter tied. Both teams struggled to score in the second quarter. Zoey Sanders (seven points) took the Hubs to 11 points on  two field goals and one free throw. The Roaders enjoyed being in the bonus and generated more than half their second quarter points off free throws. One by Addie Hsu (3 points) and two by Greenwood (4 blocks). Kimber Mercer earned the rest. With the game tied at eleven and seconds left in the half, Brunswick fouled Knight who made one of her two free throws. The third quarter started off 12-11 Hubs. The Roaders scored first in the third, but Knight rallied North Hagerstown with 12 points while Sanders went 50 percent from the free throw line and Emma Morris hit a dagger of a tre to increase the lead. Shullenbarger kept the Roaders steaming after the Hubs with nine points and Serenity Morris (seven rebounds) hit a key basket. Teams went into the fourth quarter 29 North Hagerstown, 22 Brunswick. Knight opened fourth-quarter scoring by hitting her first of a pair of free throws putting the Hubs at 30. Greenwood and North Hagerstown's Crissy Turner would both commit their fifth fouls in the fourth. Desperate for a stop Brunswick changed defenses and began picking away at the lead possession by possession. Hsu scored on an assist from Morris. With around two minutes left in the game Addison Eye and Morris combined for the final twelve points of the game. Morris sank a free throw and had a put back. Eye ranged deep from the arc for her first three. Brunswick's stops continued. Ashlynn LeFever (2 assists) grabbed a defensive rebound and found Eye outside the arc. Eye drained it, giving Brunswick its first lead since the beginning of the third quarter. Lefever would be given the assignment to slow Knight down, and Eye would match up with Sanders. The Roaders' defense held true, and they would inbound the ball with under a minute left. In a hold and pass situation, Brunswick worked the clock steadily down until it swung to a wide open Morris who banked in a three in front of an ecstatic home crowd section. 

 

JV - Brunswick 27  North Hagerstown 16      Makayla Ciccarelli scored a game-high 17 points, and the Brunswick Railroaders held off a scrappy North Hagerstown squad to come away with a hard fought 27-16 win.  The Railroaders led 13-5 at the half, and 21-12 after three quarters.  North Hagerstown pulled within 6 late in the 4th quarter, 22-16, but Brunswick used a late 5-0 run to pull away.  Along with Cicarelli's big game, Brunswick got scoring from Katie Paschalides, Harper Hahn, Josie Spevak, Annabelle Boyer, and Skylar French.  Naomi Jalloh led the Hubs with 5 points, while Blessing Engemise and Aniyah Ware each chipped in with 4.  

 

V - Urbana 54  Poolesville 25     An undermanned Poolesville Varsity Girls squad gave it all it had on Sunday at home against Urbana, but the visiting Hawks had too much, especially late in the game, and they returned to Frederick County with a 54-25 win. Urbana closed out the game with a 22-6 run thanks to the double-digit efforts of Dakota Washington (17 points), Kirsten Behrsing (13 points), and Madison Manguiri (10 points). The Hawks also picked up scoring from Grace Pfau (six points), Teagan Pyles and Maggie Slaght (three points each) and Emily Mitchel (two points). Ella Charbonneau came up big again for Poolesville and led the team with nine points. Genevieve Shelton hit for six points, Arianna Jones and Ananya Mulukutla pitched in four points each, and Brooklyn Corbett had a bucket in the loss.

 

JV - Poolesville 29  Urbana 15    Poolesville's JV Girls picked up another win on Sunday, this time using a shut-down defense to secure a 29-15 win over Urbana. The Falcons broke open a close game by outscoring the visitors 19-10 in the second half with Camille Morrow leading all scorers with 10 points. Marley Mitchel and Reagan Mauer continued their recent run of stellar play and finished with seven and six points respectively. Jayda Stanton and Sofia Nalvarte each had a bucket and Lily Weyrauch and Brea Hebron also scored in the win. Anabel Murphy led Urbana with four 4th quarter points. The two Brooklyns (Walder and Weilding) each finished with three points for the Hawks, and Makayla Randolph and Emma Schmitt also scored. 

 

V - Middletown 48  Smithsburg 38    Middletown was led by Avery Larson with 13 points, and Cara Carpenter added 12 points in the win.  Smithsburg was led by Hillary Sagba with 8 points, and Viv Malott added 7 points.

JV - Middletown 42  Smithsburg 22    Charlotte Moore led Middletown with 14 points.  Cam Gouff led Smithsburg with 10 points, and Rylie Ciccarelli added 6 points.

V - Monocacy 51  Middletown 35    Sophia Burgee scored 21 points to lead Monocacy past Middletown 51 - 35. Monocacy went on a 15-point run to start the game and lead 40-13 at the half.Middletown picked up the defensive pressure in the second half as they outscored Monocacy 25 - 11. For Monocacy,Melissa Yeboah had 10 points,7 steals and 5 assists,with Laney Baer and Moroti Adeyibi both scoring 6 points.Leading scorers for Middletown was Reagan Murphy with 12 points,Cara Carpenter 9 points and Megan Tross hitting two 3-pointers for 6 points.

 

JV - Middletown 26  Monocacy 25     Monocacy and Middletown JV teams met Sunday at Thomas Johnson High School.  With the game tied 24-24, Abby Tootill put Monocacy ahead with a free throw with 12 seconds left.  On the final possession, Middletown inbounded the ball with two seconds remaining and Avery Sacchatti hit the game winning buzzer-beater for a 26-25 Middletown win.  Natalie Saxon led Monocacy with 7 points (1 3-pointer), followed by Charlotte Moxley 6, Alora Turner with 4, Hazel Gomez and Abby Tootill with 3 each and 2 points from Jaclyn Albaugh.  Middletown's Avery Sacchetti led all scorers with 12 points (two 3-pointers), followed by Stella Fogle with 5, Charlotte Moore with 3 and Micaela Zeigler, McKinna Hidalgo and Juliana Grady with 2 points each.

 

Game Summaries for 2/1/25

V - Middletown 53 Brunswick 19    Middletown opened with a strong first quarter, with five different Knights chipping in for a 22 point surge. Madison Greenwood did her best to keep her team in it, going 4-4 from the charity stripe that quarter. However, the Knights turned up the defense, limiting the Railroaders to 0 points in the second quarter. The Railroaders didn't give up, much to their credit, but the Knights were too much offensively for the visitors to handle. Seven different players scored for the Knights, led by Avery Larson with 18, Reagan Murphy with 12, and Cara Carpenter with 9 points. Clara Nichols, Maya Lowery, and Madison Greenwood each paced the Railroaders with 4 points apiece. 

JV - Middletown 31 Brunswick 4    Brunswick visited Middletown on Saturday evening and the home team pulled out a victory, 31-4.  Both teams struggled to find their scoring rhythm in the first half, which saw Middletown lead 6-0 after the first quarter and 10-3 at the half.  Middletown’s full court defense was swarming in the third quarter, putting pressure on Brunswick and causing numerous turnovers.  The third quarter was all Middletown, scoring 14 in the frame and shutting out Brunswick.  Middletown’s defense proved too much for the visiting team as they were limited in their scoring opportunities.  Middletown had every player score but was led in scoring by Avery Sacchetti with 12 and three players with 4 points (Abbie Etter, Stella Fogle, and Micaela Zeigler).  Brunswick was led in scoring by Annabelle B with 2 and Makayla C and Harper H both had 1.

V - Ballenger Creek 38   North Hagerstown 28    The varsity Lady Bulldogs  was back in action at the Bulldog arena facing the Lady Hubs. The Lady Bulldogs prevailed winning 38-28. The first quarter the Lady Bulldogs started off strong on the free throw line taking the lead at the end of first quarter 12-3. Second quarter North Hagerstown answered back scoring 11 points  in the second quarter. The Lady Bulldogs held onto the lead at the half 20-14.   Second half the Lady Hubs cut the Lady Bulldogs lead to 4 but the Lady Bulldogs held on to seal the victory. The Lady Hubs was led by Zoey Sanders with 13 points. Dalzaya Knight chipped in 12 points. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Olivia Meyers with 19 points. Eliana Alfaro chipped in 7 points. Alyssa Buchanan and Lyla Riggs added 4 points. 

JV – Ballenger Creek 35  North Hagerstown 25     The Jv Lady Bulldogs faced the Lady Hubs in Saturday afternoon action. The Lady Bulldogs sealed the win 35-25. The Lady Bulldogs defensive pressed helped them take the lead at the end of the first quarter 13-6. Second quarter the Lady Bulldogs struggled on the offensive side scoring only 3 points. The Lady Hubs scored 6 points in the second quarter cutting the Lady Bulldogs lead to 4 points at the half (20-16). Second half the Lady Bulldogs turned up on both the offensive and defensive side taking the highest lead of the game 28-18. Fourth quarter the Lady Hubs forced multiple turnovers and cut the Lady Bulldogs lead within 3 but the Lady Bulldogs held on to prevail to victory. The Lady Hubs was led by Annabel Roles with 13 points.Blessings Engemise chipped in 5 points. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Arianna Tineo with 14 points. Amaya Darrell chipped in 9 points. Emily Le added 7 points.

V - Mt Airy 58  Williamsport 8    Williamsport varsity hosted Mt. Airy in varsity middle school basketball game. Leading scorers for Mt. Airy were Lily Kaye with 16 points and Charlotte Richardson with 13 points. Williamsport's leading scorer was Daphne Magaha with 4 points  

JV - Mt Airy 25  Williamsport 9    Williamsport played hosted to Mt. Airy Saturday afternoon. Led by Lily Grubic with 16 points, Mt. Airy left with a victory, final score 25-9. Williamsport was led by Charlotte Leasure with 4 points.

V – FSK 41  Smithsburg 37      The Lady Eagles were victorious at this Saturday's matchup vs. the visiting Leopards from Smithsburg. The Eagles' Cheyenne Sinnot poured in a game-high 18 points, followed by Lila Smith with 9. The Leopards made a late push in the fourth quarter, narrowing FSK’s lead. The Leopards were led in scoring by Vivian Malott with 13. Hillary Sagba added a hard-fought 11.

The Eagles were able to hold on for the victory in this hard-fought matchup.  

JV – FSK 47  Crestwood 10    Saturday’s matchup between FSK and Crestwood was lopsided from the beginning. FSK used a balanced passing attack and a game-high 17 points from Nadalie Rill to put the game away. The Eagles had another 11 points from Lil Honeycutt and 6 points from Reese Smith and Ava Senseny, respectively.

Crestwood was led in scoring by Brooklyn Williams with a team-high 6 points.

V – Oakdale 33  Catoctin 22      Catoctin Lady Cougars hosted the Oakdale Lady Bears early Saturday evening in a big game in the standings of the Chesapeake Division. Both teams came in with just 3 losses and both teams showcase toughness and grit especially on the defensive end. Scoring was hard to come by throughout the game. Oakdale led 8-4 after one quarter getting 4 points from Aubrey Doyle. The Lady Bears extended their lead to 17-12 in the second period by getting 4 points from Lillian Leon. Leon continued to dominate the paint in the third period getting 5 more points and Oakdale pushed the lead to 24-16 after three periods. The Lady Cougars didn’t quit and cut the lead down to 5 but the twin towers of Leon and Doyle combining for 6 more points in the final period were just too much as Oakdale went on to win 33-22. Leon was the high scorer with 15 points and a slew of rebounds. Doyle had 6 points and lots of rebounds and Makenna Bales tallied 5 points for Oakdale. Ellaina Case led Catoctin with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Leah French had 6 points and 3 steals. Abby Morlan chipped in with 4 points and 6 rebounds. Adalyn DeGrange totaled 3 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals for the Lady Cougars.

JV - Catoctin 52  Oakdale 20      The Lady Bears traveled to Catoctin High School today in their first match up against the Lady Cougars. Both teams suffering from some missing players.  Lady Cougars came out strong on defense in the first half of the game. Oakdale’w size did not pose a challenge to the Lady Cougars holding Oakdale to only 6 points. 

Lady Cougars stepped up their offensive game within the 3rd quarter with multiple players crashing the boards. Lady Bears rallied back with putting up 10 more points.  The defense of the Lady Cougars shut down the Lady Bears offense in the 4th quarter with only allowing 4 points to be scored. Final score 52-20. 

Lady Cougars with A. Watson (17) and E. Case (16) dominating the boards this evening. A. Droneburg (8), A. Morlan (6) and E. Sparkman (5) also adding to the score. 

Lady Bears G. Gonzales was consistent across the game with 11 points. P. VanLeeuwen, D. Djoko, F. Bigham and B. Schreiber added 2 points each to the boards.

V – West Frederick 28  Linganore 21    The Lady Cadets Varsity team hosted the Linganore Lancers on Saturday February 1, 2025. The Cadets came out strong the first quarter with Shaniah Swanson hitting all 7 of the Cadets points to the Lancers 4. The Cadets kept their momentum in the second quarter scoring 10 points and keeping the Lancers at only 2. The Cadets were up going in to the half 17-6. Starting the second quarter the Lancers made some key adjustments shifting the momentum in their favor. Lancers were able to put up 8 points and keep the Cadets to only 2 points in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was a close matchup but the Cadets were able to hold their lead wining the game 28-21. Top scorer leading all scorers was the Cadets Shaniah Swanson with 13 points. Other scorers for the Cadets were Kadence Seales with 7 points and Bella Donigian with 6 points. Top scorers for the Lancers were McKenzie Kelly with 7 points and Tori Capone with 6 points. 28-21 Cadets

JV – Linganore 29  West Frederick 15     West Frederick and Linganore jv girls game was tight in the first half with the Lancers up by a few points at the half. The game was a battle of pressure defense throughout.  Unfortunately for the Cadets during the second half Linganore was to win the will to win the game. West Frederick #11 Haper Chapman was the highest scorer for the Cadets at 8pts

For the Lancer’s #5, N Corrigan , 10pts, #10 M Hinkle 5pts &#11K Poffenbarger 5pts & #15 A Tortolani with 5 pts. 

V - Poolesville 31  Clear Spring 29     In the Varsity match-up, Poolesville Varsity Girls warmed up the gym with an "en fuego" first half, outscoring visiting Clear Spring 17-4. The second half was a different story as Clear Spring put 25 points on the board, but it wasn't enough as the homestanding Falcons outlasted the visitors and held on for a 31-29 win. Poolesville's Ella Charbonneau (eight points) grabbed a huge rebound and made a putback with 18 seconds left to seal the win. Arianna Jones and Brooklyn Corbett both hit for six points to help pace Poolesville. Renea Cooke finished with five points, Marley Mitchel pitched in four points, and Genevieve Shelton also scored in the win. Gabby Pinkston put Clear Spring on her back in the second half---she scored 12 of her game-high 14 points in the second half to fuel the huge comeback. Alyssa Stewart did the same with all six of her points coming in the final period. Savannah Robinson pitched in four points, Addison Beals hit for three points, and Bailey Bussard also had a second half bucket. 

JV - Poolesville 33  Clear Spring 15    Poolesville's JV Girls put the clamps on Clear Spring, holding the visitors to just seven points in the first three-quarters. That Poolesville defense, along with an explosive third quarter led by Reagan Mauer's nine points (game-high 13 points total), pushed the Falcons to a 33-15 win over Clear Spring. Jayda Stanton did the heavy lifting for Poolesville early on and finished with eight points. Brea Hebron and Margo Slonski both finished with four points. Emma Urquilla and Marley Mitchel each pitched in a bucket in the win. Molly Bowersox led a late Clear Spring comeback and finished with six points. Charis Britton and Julia Brown both had four points for the visitors and Layla Barr also scored in the loss. 

V - Monocacy 56 Urbana 21  The visiting Monarchs were firing on all cylinders as they took down the host Hawks, 56 - 21.  Monocacy used an opening 16 - 0 run to start the game.  Urbana answered back with six straight points by Dakota Washington to cut into the visitors' lead, but Monocacy kept applying offensive pressure, ending the first half with a 36 - 14 lead, with Sophia Burgee leading the way with 16 points in the first 14 minutes.  The second half scoring could not keep up with the first half, but Monocacy was able to continue to add to their lead through the rest of the second half, ending in a final score of 56 - 21.  Leading the way in scoring for Monocacy was Burgee with 20 points, followed by Laney Baer (nine) and Annabelle Horst (seven).  Urbana's leading scorers were Washington and Madison Manguiri with nine points each.  The leading rebounders for the Hawks were Kirsten Behrsing with seven, Washington and Delaney Holt with four each.

JV - Urbana 27 Monocacy 25    In a thrilling rematch between Urbana and Monocacy, both teams came out strong, setting the stage for an intense battle. Monocacy quickly made their mark with early scoring from Saxon and Moxley, but Urbana responded with fierce defense and key shots from Walder, Murphy, and Zeng. The first half was a tense affair, with Urbana narrowly edging out Monocacy, leading 16-13 at the break.  

Urbana kept the momentum going into the third quarter, maintaining their slim lead, but the game heated up in the fourth. Both teams traded baskets, creating a nail-biting finish. In the end, Urbana held strong and secured a hard-fought 2-point victory.

Monocacy was led by Turner, who scored 10 points, with Moxley adding 6 and Saxon contributing 5. Urbana’s offense was led by E. Jarvis with 8 points, Villegas with 6, and Walder and Zeng, who both chipped in 4. The game was a testament to the impressive defensive pressure from both teams, making it an exciting and competitive matchup from start to finish.

V - Catoctin 33  Walkersville 19     The Walkersville Lions hosted the Catoctin Cougars in a hot and packed middle school gym for a rare Thursday night showdown. The Cougars were quick to score, taking an early lead of 10-2 at the end of the first. Catoctin continued their scoring and heavy defense into the second quarter, going up 20-7 at halftime. The energy started to be matched in the second half but the Cougars kept their lead and beat the Lions, 33-19. Walkersville was led by Naila Ali-Goukoye with 8 points and Brynn Ambush with 5 points. Catoctin was led by Leah French with 12 points and Alice Watson & Emmalin Tyeryar with 6 points each. 

JV - Catoctin 52  Walkersville 14     The Walkersville Lady Lions hosted the Catoctin Cougars Thursday evening. The Cougars were led by Alice Watson and Ellaina Case, both with 18 points, and Skylar Mohler with 10 points. Walkersville was led by Payton Zile with 7 points.

 

Game Summaries for 1/26/25

V - Mt Airy 30 Windsor Knolls 22    Mount Airy hosted Windsor Knolls in a rematch from earlier in the season.  Mt. Airy got the win in the first game in a nail biter.  This time the Bulldogs jumped out to a 17-5 lead at the half sparked by Julissa Almonte and Lily Kaye combined 16 first half points.  Windsor Knolls cut the lead to six in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs maintained the lead to close out the win by the final of 30-22.  Windsor Knolls scoring was lead by Josie Shipley who had 9 points, while Mt Airy was led by 14 points from Julissa Almonte and 8 points from Lily Kaye.  

JV - Windsor Knolls 33 Mt Airy 8    A shorthanded Mt Airy team took on Windsor Knolls and couldn’t keep up with their full court press. Ellie Shearer scored all six of her points in the first half to give Windsor Knolls a commanding half time lead. Megan Crowell added another six points for WK. Mt Airy fought hard until the end. Lily Grubic led the way with 4 points. Maddy Janyska and Kendall Cohen each scored 2.

JV - Linganore 58 Crestwood 4     Linganore hosted the Crestwood Cavaliers, with the Lancers winning wire to wire 58 to 4. Despite a strong effort from the Cavaliers, Linganore quickly established a lead in the first quarter and held onto it for the victory. Linganore's top scorers were Natalie Corrigan with 14 points, Chloe Cox with 9 points, and Kennedy Poffenbarger with 8 points. Crestwood's leading scorers were Addie Murray and Nia Bowins, each with 2 points.

V – Ballenger Creek 46 Clear Spring 37    The Lady Blazers invited the Ballenger Creek Bulldogs up to Clear Spring for a rematch of an early season game in which the Bulldogs would win 46-37. Both teams came out ready to play today with a lot of energy leading to a 14-9 bulldogs first quarter score. The second quarter the Blazers would pick up the pace and outscore the Bulldogs 10-8 going into the halftime down 24-19. The second half would be a tough fought battle, with the Blazers fighting to keep pace with the Bulldogs due to Alfaro and Meyers. Going into the 4th quarter the Bulldogs would hold a 7-point lead. However, the Bulldogs Melekewe would go off for 9 points to finish the Bulldogs victory. The Blazers were led by Stewart with 12, Pinkston with 10, and Hensley with 7 points. The Bulldogs Trio of Alfaro, Meyers, and Melekewe scored 13, 16, and 13 points respectively. Great game, tough play, and great sportsmanship by both teams! Well done ladies!

JV – Clear Spring 36 Ballenger Creek 18 The Lady Blazers JV hosted The JV Ballenger Creek Bulldogs with the Blazer coming out on top 36-18. Both teams would start out slow in the first quarter with a lot of hustle but not much offense to show for it. The quarter would end with the Blazers up 5-4. The second quarter both teams would start to find the bottom of the basket and getting to the free throw line giving a halftime score of 15-12 Blazers. In total the game would see 48 free throw attempts! The 3rd quarter both defenses would ramp up as only 9 points would be scored by both teams setting up a 4th quarter that began with the Blazers up 21-15. The 4th quarter would be the difference maker as the Blazers would start to knock down shots and get to the basket going on a 15-3 run to end the game with a score 36-18 Blazers.  The Bulldogs Tineo and Derrell would both have 7 points in the game. The Blazers would have seven players find the bottom of the hoop and were led by Bowersox and Brown with 10 points a piece and Britton with 7 points. 

V - Urbana 31 Walkersville 22  I  n what was a back and forth affair for three quarters, the home team Hawks used a fourth quarter surge to pull out the win over the visiting Lions, 31 - 22.  The first quarter ended with Urbana up 8 - 6 and halftime ended with Urbana up 16 - 12.  Amelie Pittinger lead the Lions with four points at the half and the Hawks were lead by Teagan Pyles' five points.  Walkersville used a strong third quarter to go up 21 - 18 after three, helped by an Emily Bolino three-pointer from the corner.  The Hawks were focused in the fourth, playing tough D, only allowing one point in the final quarter.  They also got the offense going again, it was Pyles leading the way, putting up five points in the quarter, leading to the Hawks 31 - 22 victory.  The Lions' leading scorers were Bolino and Nalia Ali-Goukoye with five points each.  The Hawks leader scorers were Pyles with 10 and Kirsten Behrsing with eight.  Hitting the boards for the Hawks were Behrsing with seven rebounds, Madison Manguiri (five) and Dakota Washington (four).  Washington ended the game with seven steals and Pyles and Manguiri had four each.

JV - Urbana 37  Walkersville 11   Urbana hosted Walkersville today in a dominant 37-11 victory. Walkersville came out strong with back-to-back buckets from Peyton Zile, but Urbana quickly turned the game around with a relentless full-court press and stifling defense. The Hawks’ defensive intensity and fast-paced play limited the Lions to just 4 points in the first half, leading 23-4 at the break.  The Hawks were led by standout performances from Sophia Villegas, who controlled the paint with 8 blocks and 6 steals. Anabel Murphy was a force on the boards, while Makayla Randolph added 6 rebounds and 4 blocks to reinforce the defensive effort. Offensively, Villegas led the team with 7 points, while Makayla Randolph, Dru Joseph, and Brooklyn Weidling each contributed 6. Eva Zeng chipped in 4 points, and Brooklyn Walder, Anabel Murphy, Emerson Jarvis, and Jacey Abreu all scored key baskets.  For Walkersville, Gina Douds showed strong ball-handling skills, and Ja’lynn Adams provided tough defense. However, the Lions struggled to find consistent scoring, with Zile leading the way with 4 points. Haylee Nuse and Douds each added 2 points. 

 V - Middletown 45  West Frederick 26    In the second meeting of these two teams, the host Knights jumped out early to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter.  The Knights hit their stride in the second, scoring 16 points to the Cadets' 4. However, the Cadets didn't let up and came out in the third quarter with scrappy man defense behind Shaniah Swanson, who scored all 7 of her points in the third. Middletown responded with tenacity of their own, however, and closed the game holding the Cadets to 4 points in the final quarter. The Knights enjoyed contributions by many and were led by Reagan Murphy with 12, Avery Larson and Megan Tross each with 10, Cara Carpenter with 6 and Quinn Wagner with 5. Victoria Clayton led the Cadets with 8 points with Shaniah Swanson chipping in with 7. 

JV - Middletown 32   Frederick 14      Middletown hosted West Frederick Sunday and the host team was victorious, winning 32-14.  Both teams came out firing in the first quarter which saw West Frederick take a 9-6 lead after one.  In the second quarter, Middletown settled in and outscored West Frederick 11-4, taking a 4 point lead going into the half.  The second half was all Middletown as the defense clamped down and West Frederick could not get into a scoring rhythm.  With defensive pressure and timely scoring, Middletown outscored West Frederick 15-1 in the second half.  Middletown was led in scoring by Abbie Etter with 7, followed by Lily Hockman with 6, Micaela Zeigler with 5, and Lily Kopelson with 4.  West Frederick was led in scoring by Kwadjombou with 5, and Romano and Shook both with 4.

V - Monocacy 50  Oakdale 12     Smothering defense by Monocacy was the difference in their 50-12 win over Oakdale.The winners held Oakdale to 12 points,all in the first half,forcing 38 turnovers.Sophia Burgee led the Monocacy scoring netting 19 points. Laney Baer had another great  game with 6 points,7 rebounds and 9 steals.Annabelle Horst had 9 points and 4 steals,Mckenna Long had 7 points and 4 assits,and Melissa Yeboah scored 6 points and 4 assists.Mckenna Bales led Oakdale in scoring with 6 points,including a three pointer.

JV - Monocacy 29  Oakdale 27    Monocacy and Oakdale JV teams met Sunday at Thomas Johnson High School.  Monocacy took a 8-2 lead in the first quarter with four field goals from Natalie Saxon.  Oakdale bounced back, closed the gap and both teams traded field goals in the second quarter.  Monocacy led 18-14 at halftime.  Oakdale continued to close the gap after halftime and tied the game 21-21 at the end of the third quarter.  The fourth quarter included multiple lead changes.  The last two minutes of the game were well-played by both teams and included clutch performances by key players.  Oakdale led 26-23, Moncacy's Alora Turner and Charlotte Moxley converted field goals to give Monocacy a 27-26 lead.  Oakdale tied the game 27-27 on a free throw from Gabrielle Gonzales.  Monocacy took a 28-27 lead on a free throw from Charlotte Moxley and was able to extend the lead to 29-27 with another free throw from Jaclyn Albaugh.  Monocacy recovered a loose ball on the inbound play.  On the final possession, Monocacy was able to inbound the ball and run out the clock.  Natalie Saxon led Monocacy with 10 points, followed by Alora Turner with 9 and Jaclyn Albaugh and Charlotte Moxley with 5 each.  Oakdale's Gabrielle Gonzoles led all scorers with 12 points, followed by Faith Bingham with 11 and Reagan McElwee and Grace Zorberbier with 2 points each.

V - FSK 48  Brunswick 29     Meeting for a second time in as many games for the Roaders, FSK traveled to Brunswick where the Eagles' 48-29 win foreshadowed the NFL playoff game win. Brunswick's Madison Greenwood led all scorers with 17 points. FSK's Cheyenne Sinnot scored twelve, and Ryan Rutter had eleven, including three 3-pointers. The Eagles led 9-6 at the end of the first quarter that saw Ava Himes (five points) hit from deep. FSK would add 17 to that lead with three 3-pointers, including one from Lyla Smith (five points). Eagle Nadalie Rill also contributed a basket. Addie Hsu went 50 percent from the line in the second quarter for the Roaders. Brunswick matched pace with FSK in the third quarter as both teams scored 13 points. Roader Maya Lowery (5 points) dropped a tre and Galilee Shullenbarger scored. Eagle Neveah Dotson (7 points) added two, and Liv Thomas scored all her five points in the third quarter.  Brunswick went quiet in the fourth quarter with only Serenity Morris and Clare Butler making baskets. The Eagles only put up nine points of their own to close the game.  

JV - FSK 24  Brunswick 13    The FSK Eagles evened the season series with the Railroaders, traveling to Brunswick and coming away with a 24-13 win.  Madalie Rill and Reese Smith led the way for FSK, with 10 and 9 points respectively.  For Brunswick, Josie Spevak was the leading scorer with 5 points, while Jollene Droneburg chipped in with 3.  FSK led 12-5 at the half, and 15-11 after three quarters.  

V - Poolesville 27  Williamsport 19     The Varsity match-up was much closer (great defense on both sides), but the end result was the same---a Poolesville win, this time by a final score of 27-19. The road to the home team's first win of the season wasn't easy for the Falcons as they fell behind 8-1 in the first quarter. Arianna Jones (game high 11 points) and Ella Charbonneau (eight points) combined for all nine Poolesville points in the second quarter to knot the game 10-10 at the half. The Falcons kept the pedal to the metal with nine points in the third quarter with Alexandra Pazicky, Ananya Mulukutla, and Norak Jackson each getting key buckets (Pazicky's points coming from the free throw line). Renea Cooke sealed the game for Poolesville with her fourth quarter score. Williamsport's Trinity Brown was a force through the first three quarters and finished with 10 points. Daphne Magaha hit for five points and Jordyn Wood scored four points in the loss. 

JV - Poolesville 46  Williamsport 11    Poolesville's JV Girls started fast, ended fast, and in the end, just ran past visiting Williamsport by a final score of 46-11. Just about everyone had a hand in it for the Falcons, led by double figures from Jayda Stanton (14 points) and Marley Mitchel (10 points). Emma Urquilla and Reagan Mauer pitched in six points each in the win, with Brea Hebron and Addy White adding four points each. Margo Slonski also scored in the runaway win for Poolesville. Charlotte Leasure did what she could to keep Williamsport in the mix. She hit a late three-pointer and finished with five points. Finlay Chambers scored four points for the visitors and Lira Woods also scored in the loss.  

V - Smithsburg 29 Boonsboro 22     Smithsburg was led by Hillary, Lily Becker, and Vivian Malott with 6 points each. Boonsboro was led by kennedy Kirkpatrick with 7 points.

JV - Boonsboro 36  Smithsburg 11     Boonsboro was led by Julianna Wetzel with 11 points. Smithsburg was led by Gabriellah Sewell with 7 points.

 

Game Summaries for 1/25/25

V - Catoctin 43  Urbana – 40     Catoctin Lady Cougars hosted the Urbana Lady Hawks on Saturday afternoon in a game that the fans got their money’s worth.  Catoctin started quick jumping up 7-0. Urbana roared right back getting 2 three pointers from Dakota Washington. Catoctin led 12-9 after one period. Both teams played through some foul trouble in the second period but it was Tegan Pyles of Urbana versus Alice Watson of Catoctin. Pyles caught fire hitting four three pointers in the second frame and Watson had all 8 points for Catoctin. Urbana led 23-20 at the half. The third period was very competitive with Catoctin getting scoring from 5 different players and Urbana’s Kirsten Behrsing tallied 7 points in the period. Urbana clung to a 33-32 lead after three periods. Things went back in forth in the final period. Catoctin grabbed the lead only to see Pyles get two more three pointers to put Urbana up 39-38. It was then time for Catoctin’s Abby Morlan to make the big play getting a steal and layup to put Catoctin up 40-39. A rebound putback by Leah French on the next possession had Catoctin up 42-39. Grace Pfau hit a foul shot for Urbana to cut the lead to 2 but Watson answered with a free throw to give Catoctin the 43-40 victory as Urbana’s last attempt fell short. French led Catoctin with 13 points, 14 rebounds and 5 steals. Watson had 11 points, Adalyn DeGrange and Emmalin Tyeryar each had 6 points. Morlan had 4 points and 10 rebounds, Ellaina Case chipped in with 3 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists. Pyles had the huge game for Urbana draining 6 three pointers for 18 points. Behrsing had 7 points, Washington had 6 points, Emily Mitchell had 4 points and Madison Manguiri had 3 points. 

JV - Urbana 46  Catoctin 24    The Lady Hawks traveled north for the second match up of the season with the Lady Cougars.   Lady Cougars started the game with great defense but the Lady Hawks pushed back with a great press game. Evenly matched up during the first half of the game with the score with the Lady cougars up 15-14.   Lady Hawks answered back the second half of the game with scoring 32 points and shutting down the Lady Cougars offense. Lady Cougars fell into foul trouble with losing 2 key players early in the 3rd quarter. 

Lady Hawks E. Zeng dropped 3 three pointers that gave her a total of 14 points for the game. S. Villegas (9), E. Schmitt (7) and J. Abreu (6) all chipped baskets to push the Hawks to victory. Lady Cougars A. Morlan, A. Watson and E. Sparkman all contributed to the boards.

V - Linganore 26  Windsor Knolls 23     In an overtime thriller, Linganore made key free throws at the end to beat Windsor Knolls on Saturday afternoon.  Scoring was slow in the first quarter for both teams. After a solid second quarter, Linganore led by 6 at half time. Windsor Knolls closed the gap in the second half with tough defensive. Back and forth play ended regulation in a tie. In Overtime, Linganore was able to secure the win. Linganore was led  McKenzie Kelly with 8pts, Brooklyn Donnell with 6 and Marleigh Selb with 4. Windsor Knolls was led by Allison Petrie with 8pts, Josie Shipley and Hayley Robertson each had 5.

JV - Linganore 37   Windsor Knolls 14       Windsor Knolls hosted cross town rival Linganore Saturday afternoon. The game started slow for both teams. Neither team could seem to find the bottom of the basket as the first quarter ended
> 5-2 in Linganore’s favor. Windsor Knolls fought back in the second quarter and were only down 4 at the half 16-12.  The second half the Lancers wore down the Wolverines and took a demanding lead and never looked back.  The Lancers were led by Natalie Corrigan with 13 pts, Kara Crawford 7pts and Sawyer Jones 6pts. Annabel Shelhorse led the Wolverines with 8pts, followed by Grace Rahmati and Macey Cox each with 2.

JV - Brunswick 26  Crestwood 6      The Crestwood Cavaliers hosted the Brunswick Railroaders in an exciting matchup. The first quarter ended scoreless, as both teams showcased strong defense and relentless hustle. The Lady Cavaliers led at halftime, but the Lady Railroaders came out with renewed energy after the break. Brunswick took control in the third quarter, outscoring Crestwood 14-2 to claim the lead. Despite a valiant effort from Crestwood to fight back, Brunswick dominated the rest of the game, ultimately securing a 26-6 victory.

V - Ballenger Creek 43  Oakdale 37  The nightcap at Oakdale High School had a late start but that didn't stop Ballenger Creek's Olivia Meyers from pacing the Bulldogs with all 8 of their points early in the first quarter.  Oakdale fought back with a 3 pointer by Carly Roosa and a basket by Makenna Bales to finish the quarter with Ballenger Creek leading 8-5.  The early lead allowed the Bulldogs to sit in their half court zone while Oakdale struggled shooting early and Lala Riggs added two baskets in the second to extend the Bulldogs lead. The Bears caught some momentum before half behind the quick scoring of 5 points by Bri Sims and the half ended tied 17-17.

The second half saw the Bears shooting go cold again against Ballenger Creek's half court zone and they were able to push rebounds down the court to their guards leaking out for scoring opportunities that was a recipe for scoring 13 points in the quarter balanced between 4 different scorers and taking a 30-22 lead into the 4th.  Oakdale played shut down defense to start the 4th quarter and behind the shooting of Makenna Bales (4), Aubrey Doyle (5), and Jami Graham (6) roared back to tie the game at 37-37.  A late basket by the Bulldogs' Lyla Riggs put them ahead and forced the Bears to foul.  Ballenger Creek was efficient from the line shooting 7-12 in the quarter to take home the win by a final of 43-37.

Top performers for the Bulldogs were Olivia Myers with 16, Lyla Riggs with 10, Eliana Alfaro with 7 and Samuela Melekewe with 6.  The Bears were lead by Aubrey Doyle and Jami Graham with 8 points each, additional contributions came from Makenna Bales with 6 and Bri Sims with 5 points

JV - Oakdale 39  Ballenger Creek 16     The Lady Bears hosted the Lady Bulldogs for an after dinner soirée. It was a defensive battle through the first half. Although both teams had several open looks, the rims would not cooperate and the score at the half was Oakdale 9 and Ballenger Creek 5. Lady Bear first half scorers were Raelyn Scritchfield (2), Gabby Gonzales (4), and Faith Bingham (3). Lady Bulldog contributors were Arianna Tineo (2) and Amaya Darrell (3).

Oakdale was re-energized entering the second half and outscored Ballenger Creek 30-11. Several Lady Bears contributed to the second half run. Reagan McElwee got hot in the fourth and dropped 7. Gabby Gonzales added 13 more to lead scoring for the Bears (17). Rounding out the rest of the points were Faith Bingham with 4 more (7), Grace Zoberbier (2), Briley Schreiber (2), Rishikka Nelluri (1), and Tallulah Hammel (1). 

The Lady Bulldogs completed their scoring in the second half with three more from Arianna Tineo (5), Jade Dawson (4), Logan Achten (2), and Emily Lee (2).

V - Boonsboro 35  Williamsport 28     Williamsport hosted Boonsboro on Saturday evening for a middle school varsity game. Both teams competed hard in a competitive contest with Boonsboro coming out on top 35-28. Boonsboro was led by Harper Mullendore and Kennedy Kirkpatrick with 8 points each. Madison Kloos led Williamsport with 10 points and Daphne Magaha had 8 points.

JV - Boonsboro 31  Williamsport 3     Williamsport hosted Boonsboro Saturday night. Boonsboro pulled away in the second quarter and finished on top 31-3. Leading scorer for the Warriors was Julianna Wetzel with 13 points. Williamsport was led by Makaiya Smith with 2 points.

V - Walkersville 44  Smithsburg 35    Walkersville was led by Emily Bolino with game high of 14 points.  Naila Ali-Goukaye and Brynn Ambush added 10 and 9 points for the win.

Smithsburg was led by Payton Patterson with 10 points, and Vivian Malott added 9 points.

JV - Smithsburg 35  Walkersville 21    Smithsburg was led by Cam Gouff with a game high 18 points, and Viv Malott added 13 points.  Walkersville was led by Payton Zile with 9 points.

V - Mt Airy 33  West Frederick 31      The Lady Cadets Varsity team hosted the Mt Airy Bulldogs on Saturday January 25, 2025. The first quarter was evenly matched with Bulldogs taking the lead 10-9. The Bulldogs Elise Uhlig turned it up in the second quarter scoring all 12 of their points stretching their lead 22-13 Bulldogs. The Cadets turned up the heat at the start of the  second half taking the lead into the final quarter 28-26 Cadets. The fourth quarter was a defensive battle on both ends, however the Bulldogs managed to seal their win. Top scorer leading all scorers was the Bulldogs Elise Uhling with 16 points. Top scorers for the Cadets were Kadence Seales with 13 points, Shaniah Swanson with 9 points and Kaleah Hayes with 6 points. Other top scorers for the Bulldogs were Julissa Almonte with 9 points and Charlotte Richardson with 4 points. 33-31 Bulldogs

JV - West  Frederick 19  Mt Airy 17     Mt Airy Bulldogs led West Frederick for the first three quarters. The game was intense throughout with both teams pressing each other throughout the game. Early in the fourth quarter the Cadets started making a run to take a lead but the Bulldogs pressed continually cause problems for the Cadets.

But eventually West Frederick was able to squeeze out a win! West Frederick scorers were Cally 6pts, Mia and Harper with 4pts each. Mt Airy Bulldogs scorer’s were Lili 8pts and Maddy 4pts.

V - West Frederick 27  Catoctin  21     Catoctin hosted West Frederick on Saturday afternoon. This was a defensive battle from the start. The first quarter saw just 3 baskets as Catoctin led 4-2.  The second period saw West Frederick heat up for 9 in the quarter, 5 by Anais Affo and Catoctin continued to struggle with West Frederick’s zone defense and missed the opportunities they did get. West Frederick  led 11-7 at the half. The third quarter was much of the same with both teams scoring just 5 in the quarter. The final period saw a little more scoring and West Frederick made just enough free throws to seal the victory 27-21. Balanced scoring for West Frederick as Shaniah Swanson and Kadence Seales each had 6, Affo had 5 and Kaleah Mayes and Reagan Henderson had 4 each. Adalyn DeGrange led Catoctin with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Leah French had 5 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

JV - Catoctin 41  West Frederick 21    Lady Cadets traveled to Catoctin High School this afternoon for a match against the Lady Cougars. Cougars pressed quickly and pulled a lead of 15-2 at the first quarter with scoring across the team. Lady Cougars continued to play tough defense into the second quarter with equal offense effort. Lady Cadets stepped up their defense and put the heat on offense with C.Romano pulling up back to back 3 point shots in the third quarter. Lady Cougars fought back in the fourth quarter ending with a 41-21 win. Leading scorers for the Lady Cadets were H. Chapman (5), G. Spurges (4) and C. Romano (6). Lady Cougars with great offensive effort from E. Case (15), A.Watson (12), A. Morlan(6) and S. Rifle (6).

V - Middletown 45 Walkersville 30     The Lions jumped out to 10-4 lead by the end of the first quarter behind 5 points from Brynn Ambush.  They extended that lead to 8 before Middletown's end of half run to cut the lead to 1 at half.  A high scoring second third quarter ended with Middletown up 28-25 before Middletown pulled away in the fourth behind hot outside shooting.  The Knights were led in scoring by Cara Carpenter’s 13 and 11 apiece from Quinn Wagner and Megan Tross.  Cami Robison and Addy Benler each had 4 points and Noel Clayton had 2.  The Lions were led in scoring by Naila Ali-Goukoye's 11 and 7 from Ambush. Adding to Walkersville's scoring were M. Mayfield (5), H. McLellan (3), A. Pittinger (2), and D. Quiah (2).

JV - Walkersville 20  Middletown 15       Middletown hosted Walkersville today. Walkersville pulled out a victory on the road, beating Middletown 20 to 15. Strong defensive starts for both teams made it a low scoring first quarter and that continued into the second. At the half, Middletown held a narrow lead of 9-7. In the third, Walkersville had their best quarter, outscoring Middletown 8-4.  Middletown was unable to land many shots taken and Walkersville was able to maintain their lead until the end, earning them the win. Walkersville was led in scoring by Payton Z. with 7 points, Payton F. with 6, and Ainsley M. with 5. Middletown was led in scoring by Charlotte Moore with 5 points. Stella Fogle, Lily Kopelson, Abbie Etter and Julianna Grady each contributed 2 points.

V - Monocacy 50  Linganore 21     Linganore hosted Monocacy at Oakdale HS on Saturday night.  Although both teams got off to a slow start, Monocacy got their offense going in the second period and took a 20-7 lead into halftime.  Monocacy's offense continued to roll in the third period, with Sophia Burgee scoring 7 of her game high 22 points to lead a lopsided 19-4 third period.  Monocacy started the fourth period with a commanding 39-11 lead, and they secured the win after outscoring Linganore 11-10 in the fourth period.  In addition to Burgee's game-high 22 points, Annabelle Horst contributed 10 points, McKenna Long 7 points, and Laney Baer 6 points.  Linganore was 9 for 12 as a team from the free throw line, and they were led in scoring by McKenzie Kelly with 9 points, Sailor Hart with 7 points, and Marleigh Salb with 4 points

JV - Monocacy 29 Linganore 28    Linganore hosted Monocacy in an intense Saturday night match-up, ending 29-28 in Monocacy's favor. Both teams were highly competitive, fighting intensely throughout a very fast paced game. Linganore started out with a quick 6-0 run, only for Monocacy to come back with a 9-0 run of their own. At the end of the first quarter, Monocacy had a slim lead of 9-8. The second quarter saw Kara Crawford from Linganore tie the game at 9-9 with a free throw. Linganore then took the lead, going into halftime with a score of 16-13. By the third quarter, Monocacy had surged ahead to lead 27-23, outscoring Linganore 14-7 in the quarter. The fourth quarter was a nail-biter, as neither team scored until the final three minutes of the game. The scores were leveled at 27-27 and then 28-28, until Monocacy's Alora Turner clinched the victory with a free throw in the final three seconds, ending the game 29-28. Despite the loss, Linganore's Natalie Corrigan was Linganore's top scorer with 10 points, followed by Kennedy Poffenbarger with 5 points. Monocacy was led by Jaclyn Albaugh with 10 points, followed by Natalie Saxon pitching in for eight points.

V - North Hagerstown 25  Boonsboro 20   North Hagerstown varsity defeated Boonsboro 25 to 20 at Boonsboro Saturday afternoon.  The Warriors took an early lead, but North was able to take the lead into halftime 13-8.  The second half was hotly contested with both teams playing strong defense in back-and-forth action.  North Hagerstown was led by Zoey Sanders with twelve (she was also strong on the boards) and Dalzaya Knight with eight.  Boonsboro was led by Jailyne Hammerman with seven (also strong on the boards) and Christiana Bittner with five.

JV - Boonsboro 24  North Hagerstown 19    North travelled to Boonsboro today for an out of division matchup. This was a very closely contested matchup all the way to the final horn. The first half would end knotted up at 11 a piece after North rallied back from 6 down to tie it up prior to the half. The Warriors turned up the pressure a little in the 3rd and were able to create a little separation to take a 3-point lead into the 4th. The 4th period was stingy defense by both sides with North only scoring 4 and Boonsboro 4 to close the game out 24-19 for a Warrior victory. Leading all scorers was Julianna Wetzel with 8 points, Bella Gordon contributed with 6 Points and 6 Rebounds and Delaney Monninger also added 4 Points. North was led in scoring by both Annabel Fulghum-Roles and Ryleigh Wilson each with 4 points.

V - FSK  44  Brunswick 31   Saturday's matchup began slowly for the Roaders. FSK applied a relentless press that the visiting team struggled to counter. Ryan Rutter of FSK started strong, scoring a game-high 11 points. She was supported by Nevaeh Dotson, who added 10 points, and Cheyenne Sinnot, who contributed 8 points. The Roaders regrouped at halftime and made a strong push in the third quarter to reduce FSK's lead. Leading the charge for the visiting team was Galilee Shullenbarger, who scored a team-high 10 points, followed closely by teammate Addelyn Hsu, who added 9 points.

In the fourth quarter, FSK regained momentum and comfortably secured their victory. Both teams fought hard until the final buzzer, but ultimately, the day belonged to the Eagles.

JV - Brunswick 28   FSK 24     Saturday's matchup between the Railroaders of Brunswick and the Eagles of FSK packed plenty of action for the fans that came out on this sunny afternoon in Union Bridge. FSK found themselves in foul trouble early but managed to take a 4-point lead into the half with some savvy scoring by Nadalie Rill with a team-high 12 points. She was followed in scoring by Raegan Dietz adding 5 points along the way. The Railroaders got on “track” in the second half outscoring the Eagles by 11 points. The scoring was paired with solid defense, limiting the Eagles to just one hoop in the 4th. The Roaders were led in scoring by Makayla Ciccarelli with a game-high 16 points. Second in scoring was Katie Paschalides contributing a tough-earned 6 of her own.

The Roaders finished strong and steamed on for the victory.

JV - Ballenger Creek 27  Crestwood 14    The Crestwood Lady Cavaliers hosted the Ballenger Creek Lady Bulldogs in a tightly contested and exciting matchup. In the end, the Lady Bulldogs came out on top with the victory. Leading the charge for Ballenger Creek were Emily Le with 10 points and Arianna Tinco, who added nine. Despite the loss, the Lady Cavaliers put up a strong fight, with Elise Mills and Addie Murray both finishing as the team’s top scorers, each with six points.

V - Windsor Knolls 35  Williamsport 24    Williamsport varsity middle school hosted Windsor Knolls at Clear Spring HS. Williamsport jumped out to an early 8-1 lead but Windsor Knolls settled in and took a 14-10 lead by halftime. Winsdor Knolls pulled away in the second half to secure the 35-24 victory. Windsor Knolls scoring was led by Madison Cox and Hayley Robertson with 7 points.Williamsport was led by Madison Kloos and Julie Cauffman which had 7 points each.

V -  Urbana 14  Mt. Airy 12  The Hawks survived a late surge by the Bulldogs to hold on for a 14 - 12 win.  There was little scoring in the first half, as the game was tied at five a piece after 14 minutes, with Mia D'Onofrio hitting a three for Mt. Airy and Madison Manguiri having 3 points for Urbana.  There wasn't much more scoring in the second half, but Urbana outscored Mt. Airy 9 - 7 in the second half to get the win; Lily Kaye scored six for the Bulldogs and Grace Pfau scored four for the Hawks in the half.  Kaye lead the way for the Bulldogs with eight points for the game and Urbana was lead by Pfau with five.  Hitting the boards for the Hawks were Maggie Slaght (six rebounds) and Teagan Pyles (four).  Manguiri ended the game with four steals and Slaght had three.

JV - Urbana 36 Mt. Airy 14 The Urbana JV girls' basketball team hosted Mt. Airy in a hard-fought matchup. The Hawks came out strong in the first half, taking a 16-9 lead into halftime. On the offensive side, Mt. Airy's Lily Grubic and Maddy Janyska led the charge, contributing key points while also playing strong defense. For the Hawks, Dru Joseph was the top scorer with 9 points, followed closely by Brooklyn Walder with 6, and Sophia Villegas with 5. Every player on the Urbana roster made valuable contributions, showcasing the team's depth and teamwork throughout the game.

 

Game Summaries for 1/12/25

V - Linganore 24  West Frederick 16    The Linganore Lancers hosted the Lady Cadets from West Frederick on Sunday afternoon.  The Lancers jumped out to an early 12-3 lead with McKenzie Kelly scoring 7 of her game high 9 points in the first period.  The Lancers extended their lead in the second period, outscoring the Cadets 7-3.  However, the Lancers 19-6 halftime lead was short-lived, as the Cadets came out in the third period and held the Lancers to just 2 points while scoring 8 points to cut into the lead.  The fourth period, which started with a 21-14 Lancer lead, was a low-scoring defensive duel.  With the help of two free throws from Brooklyn Dommel, the Lancers outscored the Cadets 3-2 in the final period and prevailed with a 24-16 victory.  In addition to Kelly's 9 points for Linganore, Marleigh Salb added 4 points, and Anna Doy and Tori Capone each added 3 points.  West Frederick was led by Shaniah Swanson with 4 points.  Also contributing for the Cadets with 2 points each, was Reagan Henderson, Kaleah Hayes, Victoria Clayton, Bella Donigian, and Anais Affo.     

JV- Linganore 37 West Frederick 18    After suffering their first loss of the regular season yesterday, the Linganore Lancers girls JV team rebounded in a wire to wire win beating the visiting West Frederick Cadets with a score of 37-18. From the beginning, the Lancers came out fast, largely thanks to their full court defensive pressure, establishing a big lead early in the first half and never looking back. The Lancers took a lead of 19-10 going into halftime. The second half was almost a carbon copy of the first half with the Lancers outscoring the Cadets 18-8 in the second half, resulting in a final score of 37-18. Natalie Corrigan led all scorers with a game high 11 points, followed by McKinley Hinkle adding 10 points for the Lancers. The Cadets were led by Anaelle Kwadjambou, A'nyiah Wade, and Grace Spurgers all contributing three points apiece.

V - Monocacy 51  FSK 22    Monocacy's fast pace offense and the inside play of Annabelle Horst led them to a 55-22 win over FSK.The winners carried an 11 point lead into the half then outscored FSK 14-3 in the third quarter to pull away.Annabelle Horst led Monocacy with a double-double scoring a game high 19 points with 11 rebounds.Sophia Burgee added 16 points and 4 steals,with McKenna Long scoring 5 points and Me;issa Yeboah getting 7 steals and 9 assists. Leading scorer for FSK was Nevaeh Dotson with 12 points including 2 three-pointers.Lyla Smith added 5 points.

JV - Monocacy 40  FSK 28    Monocacy and FSK JV teams met Sunday at Thomas Johnson High School.  The first half was dominated by defense and scoring opened up in the second half.  Monocacy took a 7-2 lead in the first quarter and both teams added five points in the second quarter highlighted by a 3-pointer from Monocacy's Alora Turner.  Monocacy led 12-7 at halftime.  Monocacy came out strong in the third quarter with field goals by four different players including a 3-pointer by Natalie Saxon.  FSK's Reese Smith also hit a 3-pointer but Monocacy held a 28-15 lead at the end of the quarter.  Both teams found scoring opportunities in the fourth quarter and each had field goals from four different players.  Monocacy cruised to a 40-28 victory.  Monocacy's Natalie Saxon led all scorers with 15 points (including one 3-pointer), followed by Alora Turner with 12 (including one 3-pointer), Jaclyn Albaugh with 6, Hazel Gomez with 5 and Harper Boyer with 2 points.  Reese Smith led FSK with 9 points (including one 3-pointer), followed by Ava Senseny with 6, Lilyana Potts with 5, Natalie Rill with 4 and Allison Hagan and Raegen Dietz with 2 points each.

V – Catoctin 41 Clear Spring 16    The Lady Blazers hosted the Catoctin Cougars, which Catoctin won 41-16. The first quarter started out hot for the Blazers with Hensley hitting two 3-pointers and ending the first quarter with a 6-4 lead. Coming out in the second quarter the Lady Cougars tightened up on the defensive side and capitalized on the offensive half as French would score 7 of her 20 points and lead the Cougars to a 18-8 halftime lead. The second half the Cougars continued to lock down on defense and get 7 of 8 players on the box score and a 41-16 win. The Blazers were led by Hensley with 6 points. The Cougars were led by French with a game high 20 points, Case would add 8 points and DeGrange would add 7 points.

JV – Catoctin 47 Clear Spring 13 The Lady Blazers JV hosted The JV Catoctin Cougars which Catoctin would win 47-13. The Lady Cougars defense was locked in from the first quarter giving the lady Blazers trouble all day. The Blazers leading scorer was Brown with 7 points. The Cougars would have eight girls find the box score and were led by Case with 18 and Droneburg with 11 points.

V - Middletown 43  Brunswick 25    During Sunday's nightcap game, the Knights derailed the Railroaders with an 18 point first quarter, jumping out 18-6 and never looked back. The Railroaders were led by Madison Greenwood with 9 points and Galie Shullenberger chipped in with 5. The Knights enjoyed contributions from 8 different players with Reagan Murphy leading all scorers with 11 points, Avery Larson with 8, and Megan Tross with 6.

JV - Middletown 39  Crestwood 6    Middletown hosted Crestwood Sunday and protected their home court with a 39-6 victory.  Both teams exchanged 3 pointers in the first quarter and Middletown led 8-3 after one.  The second quarter was all Middletown as they scored 15 points and took a 23-3 lead into halftime.  The third quarter proved to be low scoring and Middletown led 29-4 after three.  The fourth quarter was more of the same as Crestwood was outscored 10-2.  Middletown’s defense was too much for Crestwood to handle as their attacking defense led to 21 total steals (Stella Fogle with 6).  Crestwood fought hard all day and never gave up, showing a lot of grit, resolve, and determination.  Middletown was led in scoring by Lily Hockman with 10 points, McKinna Hidalgo with 9 points and 9 rebounds, and Micaela Zeigler with 5 points.  Crestwood was led in scoring by Elise Mills with 3 points, Addie Murray with 2 points, and Brooklyn Williams with one point. 

V - North Hagerstown 36  Poolesville 30     North Hagerstown's Varsity Girls had but three scorers in the book for this one, but when Dalzaya Knight (19 points) and Zoey Sanders (15 points) combine for 34 points, you're likely going to see a win, and win they did as the visitors beat Poolesville by a final score of 36-30. Emma Morris also scored to help North Hagerstown to the win. Arianna Jones hit for 10 points to pace Poolesville. Reagan Mauer fought off foul trouble to score eight points. Ella Charbonneau and Genevieve Shelton each had four points and Ananya Mulukutla and Alexandra Pazicky both chipped in a bucket in the loss. 

JV - Poolesville 51 North Hagerstown 23    Poolesville's JV Girls opened the five game home set with a 51-23 win over visiting North Hagerstown. While Poolesville's Jayda Stanton led the team with 14 points, the Falcons proved that "sharing is caring" with ten different players scoring in the win, including nine points each by Lily Weyrauch and Addy White, five points from Charlotte Afshar, four from Reagan Mauer and a bucket each from Charlotte Moore, Sofia Nalvarte, Emma Urquilla, Camille Morrow, and Brea Hebron.  6th grader Naomi Shorts put North on her back and finished with 14 points, including two three-pointers. Fellow underclassmen Annabel Fulghum-Roles and Ryleigh Wilson hit for four points each to keep things close early on.

V – Smithsburg 32  Williamsport 27    Williamsport varsity middle school hosted Smithsburg. It was a hard fought game with Tatum Koerting scoring 7 points and Daphne Magaha making 6 points for Williamsport. V. Malott led Smithsburg with 9 points. Smithsburg won the game 32-27.

JV - Smithsburg 24  Williamsport 18    Smithsburg traveled to Williamsport Saturday night and left victorious 22-16. A defensive battle for the entire game. Smithsburg was led by R Ciccarelli with 9 points and M Herbst with 4 points. Finlay Chambers led the way for Williamsport with 5 points.

JV - FSK 40  Crestwood 5     It was a hard-fought game with both teams showing great determination. FSK was led in scoring by Raegan Dietz, who put up 12 points, followed closely by Allison Hagan with 11. On the Crestwood side, Addie Murray and Eliana Morris each contributed 2 points to the team's effort

V - Oakdale 38  Boonsboro 3    Oakdale hosted the Boonsboro Warriors in the night cap at Oakdale High School.  The Bears jumped out quick in the first quarter 18-0 with balanced scoring by 5 players, lead by Liz Bova with 6 points.  The second quarter saw Oakdale continue to play shut down defense and extend their lead to 28-0 at half.  The Bears came out of half time and added another 10 points to enter the 4th quarter up 38-0. The Warriors grabbed 3 points towards the end of the game by Morgan Molesky on a 3 point play.  Top scorers for Oakdale were Aubrey Doyle (10), Carly Roosa (10), Evyn Bova (6) and Liz Bova (6).

JV – Oakdale 33   Boonsboro 18   The Lady Bears hosted the Lady Warriors for an evening outing. Both teams were ready to defend, as indicated by the end of the first quarter score 6-4, with Oakdale leading. Contributors for Oakdale were Raelyn Scritchfield (2), Gabby Gonzales (2), and Anna Mills (2). Julianna Wetzel and Grace Smith kept the score close with a made free throw and a drained 3-pointer, respectively.

It was the next two quarters where the Lady Bears gained traction and played tough defense, outscoring the Lady Warriors 21-8. Gabby Gonzales scored 11 of her 15 points during this time. The Bears were also able to find an open Anna Mills under the basket two more times as she came away with her season high (6). For the Warriors, the Bears could not stop Grace Smith from dropping another 3-pointer for a total of 6 points for the night. McKenna Luther and Josslyn Nelson each scored 2 points, and Jordyn Dembo dropped a free throw for the Warriors’ 8 points.

The Warriors got a second wind and kept the Bears to just 6 points in the fourth quarter. The Bears had several contributors to the final score with Reagan McElwee (4), Tallulah Hammel, Rishikka Nelluri, and Grace Zoberbier, each with 2. The Warriors rounded out the scoring in the fourth quarter with Julianna Wetzel with an additional 4 points (5) and Maycee Davis dropping a field goal (2).

V - Middletown 37  Linganore 29    The Knights defeated the Lancers in a tightly contested game featuring two similarly matched teams. The Lancers jumped out first on the Knights, leading after the first quarter 9-5 with intense defense and smart play. But the Knights picked up the intensity and defensive efforts and put together a 13 point second quarter, and never looked back, securing a 37-29 victory. The visiting Lancers were paced by Mckenzie Kelly's 10 points and Anna Doy's 9 points. The Knights were similarly led in scoring by Avery Larson with 10 points and Addi Benler with 9.

JV – Middletown 23  Linganore 22         In an exciting matchup between top teams between Middletown and Linganore, Middletown came out on top 23-22 thanks to a buzzer beater!!! Both teams' defensive efforts were on display and Middletown led after one quarter 5-0. Defensive efforts remained high with Middletown leading 8-4 at the half. Linganore settled in during the third quarter and went on an 8-0 run to take control and lead 14-12 after 3. Both teams traded baskets throughout the 4th with multiple lead changes. Linganore led 22-20 with 2.8 seconds left. Avery Sacchetti of Middletown shot a buzzer-beating three point shot to win the game in a hard fought thriller!  Middletown was led in scoring by Lily Hockman with five points, followed by Julianna Grady with four, and five other Knights scored. Linganore was led in scoring by Corrigan with six, Bhimisetty with 5, and five other Lancers scored.

V - Brunswick 32  Walkersville 24     Walkersville Lions hosted the Brunswick Railroaders for the later evening game on Saturday. The Lions came out hot, scoring 11 points (7 from Emily Bolino) and holding Brunswick to 6 points in the first quarter. Switching around their defenses, the Lions and the Railroaders settled in with limited fouling, only 2 and 3 respectively for the entire second quarter, halftime score was 19-12 in favor of Walkersville. The second half was entirely different story for both teams as the Railroaders picked up their energy, scoring 13 points in the third quarter and holding the Lions to just 4 points. The Lions scoring woes continued into the fourth quarter, only scoring a point. The Railroaders took the win, 32-24. Brunswick was led by Madison Greenwood with 11 points and Clara Nichols with 8 points. Walkersville was led by Emily Bolino with 12 points (and 6 rebounds and 6 steals) and Amelie Pittinger with 8 points (and 12 rebounds and 3 steals).

JV - Brunswick 33  Walkersville 21    Walkersville hosted Brunswick Saturday evening. Brunswick was led by Makayla Ciccarelli with 12 points, Annabelle Boyer with 5 points, and Josie Spevak and Karis Phillips both with 4 points. Walkersville was led by Payton Zile with 8 points, Jaylynn Adams with 6 points, and Jasmine Hinton with 5 points.

V - Mt Airy 44  N. Hagerstown 23      In a rematch of an early season matchup North Hagerstown jumped out to an early lead in the first half led by Daliya Knight’s 10 first half points.  The Hubs held a lead of 16-9 with 4 minutes to go in the half.  The Bulldogs then went on a 15-0 run led by Elise Uhlig 8-point 2nd quarter.  Mt. Airy made a strong second half push with strong offensive performance by Julissa Almonte (11 points), and Maddie Hawkins (14 points) to push the lead to 25 midways through the fourth quarter and went on to win by a final score of 44-23.  The Hubs were led by Daliya Knights 12 points, and Zoey Sanders chilled in 6 points.  The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Maddie’s Hawkins (14 points), Elise Uhlig (12 points), and Julissa Almonte (11 points). 

JV - Mt Airy 30  N. Hagerstown 10    The first half saw a back-and-forth battle between the Bulldogs and the Queens. Lily Grubics 7 first half points gave Mt Airy a 10-8 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs tightened their defense in the second half, creating turnovers and transition points, and holding N. Hagerstown to only one field goal. Mt Airy was led by Grubic with 11 points and Carlie Alexander with 7. Other contributors were Ashlynn Harrison with 4, Etta Barkley with 3 and 2 points each from Bianca Roman, Maddy Janyska and Kendall Cohen. Annabel Fulgham-Roles had 4 for the Queens followed by Naomi Shorts, Ryleigh Wilson and Su Huang with 2 each.

V - Catoctin 44  Ballenger Creek 31   The varsity Lady Bulldogs was back in action against the Lady Cougars. The Lady Cougars handed the Lady Bulldogs their second loss and the Lady Cougars took the win 44-31. First quarter the Lady Bulldogs started off hot going up 6-2 midway through the first quarter. The Lady Cougars went on a 9-0 run taking the lead at the end of the first quarter 11-6. Second quarter the Lady Bulldogs sent the Cougars to foul line multiple times with the Lady Cougars sinking most of their free throws and the Lady Cougars held onto their lead at halftime 23-16. Second half the Lady Bulldogs try to come back cutting the the lead down close to 4 but the Cougars held onto to prevail. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Eliana Alfaro with 15 points. Olivia Meyers chipped in 10 points. The Lady Cougars was led by Alice Watson with 15 points. Adalyn DeGrange chipped in 9 points. Leah French and Emmalin Tyeryar each had 6 points.

JV - Catoctin 52  Ballenger Creek 20    The Jv Lady Bulldogs was back in the Bulldog arena against the Lady Cougars. The Lady Cougars sealed the win 52-20. Both teams started off slow on the offensive side. The Lady Cougars turned it up and took the lead at the end of the first quarter 12-4. Second quarter the Lady Bulldogs got their offense going scoring 9 points in the second quarter. The Lady Cougars held on their lead at the end of the first half 27-13. Second half was all about the Lady Cougars scoring 25 points in the second half giving the Lady Bulldogs troubled breaking their full court press. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Arianna Tineo with 15 points. Emily Le chipped in 3 points. Lady Cougars was led by Alice Watson with a game high 22 points.Abigail Morlan and Eliana Case chipped in 7. 

 

Game Summaries for 1/5/25

V – Mt. Airy 60 Clear Spring 27    The Lady Blazers hosted the Mt. Airy Bulldogs on this pre-blizzard Sunday, which the Bulldogs won 60-27. The first quarter started out slow for everyone except the bulldogs Hawlein, who scored all 8 of the teams first quarter points. The second quarter would see the Bulldogs start to heat up as 4 girls got involved in the scoring. The Blazers would play tough and earn multiple trips to the foul line but would struggle to capitalize. Halftime score 22-12. After the break the bulldogs would come out hot as the Bulldogs Almonte would start hitting shot after shot in the second half and Hawlein would keep getting to the rim. The Bulldogs would pull away to win the contest 60-27. The Blazers were led by Stewart with 14 points. The Bulldogs were led by Almonte with 22 points (including four 3-pointers) and Hawlein with 20 points.

JV – Clear Spring 27 Mt. Airy 26    The Lady Blazers JV hosted the Bulldogs of Mt. Airy this Sunday in an OT thriller ending with a Blazers victory 27-26. In a back-and-forth game, the biggest lead was 5 points and both teams played well. The first quarter ended 8-6 Bulldogs with a big 3 pointer form Janyska. In the second quarter the Blazer would lock in on Defense and hold the Bulldogs to just 1 basket and take a 12-10 lead into halftime. The third quarter would see the Blazers Brown and Janyska trade buckets and end 20-15. The fourth quarter the Bulldogs pressure along with the Blazers short bench led to the Bulldogs outscoring the Blazers 10-5 and Grubic tied the game with 36 seconds left to go. The game would go into OT at 25-25. The first 2 min of OT would be scoreless as both teams locked in on defense. The Bulldogs would apply a ton of pressure and would earn themselves a few trips to the foul line but could only capitalize with 1 point from Alexander with 46 seconds left putting the Bulldogs up by 1. With 13 seconds left the Blazers would break the press and Brown would find Bowersox on the block for a layup to put them up by 1. The Bulldogs would take a time out and come out to some Blazer pressure ending up in turnover and the clock running out. Great game by both teams!!!  The Bulldogs were led by Janyska with 11 points and Grubic with 7 points. The Blazers were led by Bowersox with 10 points and Brown with 7 points.   

V - Linganore 45  FSK 22    The Lady Lancers pranced onto FSK’s home court and won the game with solid defense, and a balanced scoring attack. The Lancers were led in scoring by Kelly, dropping a game-high 13 points, with Capone adding another 9. FSK kept the game close throughout with a scrappy defense, but a team-high 6 points from Ryan Rutter, and 4 points from Sinnot, and Thomas just wasn’t enough for FSK. The Lancers came out in the 4 th quarter and took over. They limited FSK to just 3 points; while filling it up with 17 points in the period. The Lancers grounded the Eagles and rode off into the blustery Sunday sunset.

JV - Linganore 26   FSK 25     Sunday’s matchup between the JV lady Eagles and the Lancers from Linganore brought plenty of excitement for the fans at Francis Scott Key High School in Union Bridge. The first half was dominated by defense from both teams and ended with Linganore leading by just 1 point. FSK was led in scoring by Raegan Dietz, who scored a team-high 9 points, followed by Nadalie Rill, who poured in another 6. The fourth quarter was owned by the Lancers scoring 15 of their 26 points in the quarter. Linganore’s Corrigan had a team-high 10 points, with 6 coming in crunch time. She was followed by teammate Poffenberger adding 6. This was a game that packed moments of greatness from both teams, however, it’s how you finish that matters, and Linganores 4 th quarter proved to be just enough to come out victorious in this hard-fought battle.

V - Middletown 55  Smithsburg 40     After a two week layoff, both the Knights and Leopards took the court in a tightly contested 1st quarter ending with Knights in the lead, 13-11. Both teams struggled to get into a groove with 21 fouls tallied in just the first half, but the Knights poured on a 20-point 3rd quarter, including 3 3's from Megan Tross. The Leopards did not give up, however, and continued to battle on the boards until the very end. Smithsburg was led by Zoe Shuster with 13 points and Vivian Malott with 8. The Knights cruised to victory behind four players scoring in double digits: Megan Tross (13), Addi Benler (12), Avery Larson (11), and Reagan Murphy (10).

JV - Middletown 26  Smithsburg 24   In a tight and contested matchup of Middletown versus Smithsburg, Middletown hung on to win a 26-24 thriller.  Both teams got off to a slow start which saw the first quarter end with a score of 3-2.  Middletown got hot in the second quarter, sparked by two 3-pointers by Lily Hockman, which saw the team score 14 total, carrying a 17-8 lead into halftime.  Smithsburg remained composed and outscored Middletown by 1 in the third quarter, bringing the score to 24-16 after three.  Smithsburg kept fighting and found momentum-shifting shots, outscoring Middletown 8-2 in the fourth.  After a buzzer-beater shot missed the mark, Middletown hung on to secure a two-point victory.  Middletown was led in scoring by Avery Sacchetti with 10 points, followed by Lily Hockman with 6 and Charlotte Moore with 4.  Smithsburg was led in scoring by Camyrn Goff with 10 points, followed by Vivian Mallot with 6, and Elyse Anderson and Rylie Ciccarelli both with 4.

JV - Urbana 44 Crestwood 8    The Urbana JV girls basketball team came out firing on all cylinders Sunday, utilizing an intense full-court press to take a commanding 20-2 lead over Crestwood in the first quarter. Urbana's defensive pressure set the tone early, creating turnovers and converting them into fast-break opportunities.  Crestwood battled back in the second quarter behind the efforts of Elise and Addie, who worked tirelessly to move the ball and create offensive opportunities.  Anabel Murphy was a standout for Urbana, leading the defense with an impressive nine steals. Her efforts were complemented by Brooklyn Walder, Emerson Jarvis, Eva Zeng, Sophia Villegas, Dru Joseph, and Jacey Abreu, who contributed to the team's staggering total of 26 steals in the game. Walder also showcased her playmaking ability, leading the team with five assists.  On offense, Walder paced Urbana with a game-high 14 points. Dru and Eva Zeng chipped in six points apiece, while Anabel, Emma, Emerson, Sophia, Brooklyn Weidling, and Makayla added key buckets to keep the momentum firmly in Urbana's favor.

V - Walkersville 38 Williamsport 12    Walkersville’s Varsity Girls hosted Williamsport on Sunday evening. From the first quarter Walkersville utilized there mix of speed and size to take control with a 9-3 lead to end the first. This continued until the end where Walkersville took the win 38-11. Williamsport was led by Trinity Brown 5 points and Madison Kloos with 4 points. Walkersville was led by Naila Ali-Goukoye with 10 points and Emily Bolino with 11 points.

JV - Walkersville 34 Williamsport 2   The Lady Lions hosted Williamsport Sunday evening. Walkersville came out hot with a 12-2 lead at the half. Williamsport continued to put the pressure on defensively, but it was not enough to stop the Lady Lions. Walkersville was led by Emma Walz with 14 points and Payton Zile and Jasmine Hinton with 8 points.

V - Brunswick 46  Boonsboro 27   The Brunswick Railroaders steamed ahead to a win against Boonsboro 46-27. The Roaders jumped out to a ten point lead in the first quarter off their press following an off the tip layup by Galilee Shullenbarger (eleven points), assist Addie Hsu. Morgan Molesky (eight points) scored a jumpshot for Boonsboro. The Roaders utilized a tall lineup that saw Brunswick's bigs go to the line 18 times in the first quarter. Kimber Mercer and Serenity Morris (two assists) each sunk one, and Madison Greenwood made five of her free throws. Warrior Jailyne Hammerman (eight points) didn't get hot until the second quarter when she single handedly undid Brunswick defense scoring all six of her team's points. The teams battled even in the third quarter each scoring eight points that saw a bucket from Kloe Yates for Boonsboro. In the fourth quarter, Boonsboro used a 2-2-1 press and took advantage of some defensive changes by Brunswick to cut the lead to nine. Key baskets for the Warriors included a field goal by Harper Mullendore, a three-pointer by Christiana Bittner, who finished the game with seven points, and two quick daggers by Molesky. Clara Nichols (two assists) had three points in the fourth for Brunswick. Greenwood led all scorers with 16 points. Ashlynn Lefever saw time at the point for Brunswick with six points (60% from the field), three rebounds, one steal, and zero turnovers. The Roaders dropped four three-pointers. Addison Eye (five points) and Maya Lowery had one each and Shullenbarger had two.

JV - Boonsboro 27  Brunswick 24    Boonsboro held on for a 27-24 victory over Brunswick, in a tightly contested game throughout.  Julianna Wetzel was the leading scorer for Boonsboro with 9, while Bella Gordon added 6 and Jordyn Dembo chipped in with 5.  For Brunswick, Kayla Ciccarelli had a game-high 17 points, while Katie Paschalides added 5.  Brunswick was just 4-24 from the free throw line.  Boonsboro held a 16-10 lead at the half, and a 21-17 lead at the end of 3 quarters.  

V - Ballenger Creek 40  Poolesville 23  In the second game of the day, Ballenger Creek's Varsity Girls returned the favor by blowing open a close game to bring home a 40-23 win. Leading by just two at the half, Ball Creek went on a second half tear to secure the victory. They held host Poolesville scoreless in the third quarter with Olivia Meyers' 15 second half points leading the way. She finished with 18 points total to lead all scorers. Meyers had plenty of help with Lyla Riggs pitching in six points, Eliana Alfaro hitting for five points, and Brynn Bradshaw and Samuela Melekewe scoring four points each. Arriana Jones went for double figures for Poolesville and finished with ten points. Ella Charbonneau hit for six points, Jayda Stanton had four points, and Alexandra Pazicky and Norah Jackson also scored in the loss. 

JV - Poolesville 56  Ballenger Creek 17   In the opener, Poolesville's JV Girls scored early, often, and pretty much throughout the game as they beat Ballenger Creek by a final score of 56-17. Opening up a 37-9 lead at the half and led by Jayda Stanton's game-high 16 points, the Falcons kept the pedal to the metal to run up their highest point total of the season. Reagan Mauer (nine points) and Addy White (eight points) did all of their damage in the first half. Lily Cusic put her mark on the win with six fourth quarter points. Camille Morrow and Lily Weyrauch pitched in four points each for Poolesville. Sofia Nalvarte finished with three second half points and Emma Urquilla, Brea Hebron, and Charlotte Afshar also scored. Arianna Tineo led Ballenger Creek with eight points, Amaya Darrell and Emily Le finished with four points each, and Lucy Wiese also scored for the visitors. 

Oakdale 35  Windsor Knolls 28     Scoring started quickly with Audrey Langham and Kayleigh Golden hitting early 3 pointers for Windsor Knolls jumping out to an early lead.  Oakdale was able to battle back with 6 points from Lillian Leon to finish the first quarter with Oakdale leading 12-11. Shooting went cold in the second quarter for both teams leaving the halftime score at 17-16 Oakdale.  In the third quarter Oakdale was able to shutout the Wolverines with tough defense extending their lead to 22-16.  The fourth quarter saw the return of some good shooting on both ends lead by Jami Graham with 6 points for the Bears and Audrey Langham matching her with 6 points of her own for Windsor Knolls to bring the Wolverines back from a 14 point deficit.  Final score Windsor Knolls 28, Oakdale 35.  Leading the scoring for Windsor Knolls was Audrey Langham with 10 and Kayleigh Golden with 9.  Oakdale's scoring leaders were Liz Bova with 10, Lillian Leon with 7, Jami Graham with 6 and Makenna Bales added 5.  Defensively for the Bears Aubrey Doyle had 5 blocked shots.

JV - Windsor Knolls 29  Oakdale 15    Oakdale JV hosted Windsor Knolls Sunday afternoon.  Leading scorers for Oakdale were Gabby Gonzales (5), Briley Schreiber (3) and Rishikka Nelluri (3).  Leading scorers for Windsor Knolls were Annabel Shelhorse (8), Chloe Merriwether (6) and Grace Rahmati (5)

V - Monocacy 55  Catoctin 26    Monoocacy's fast paced offense scored the first 14 points of the game and cruised to a 55-26 win over Catoctin.Sophia Burgee led the balanced attack with 20 points.Melissa Yeboah had a great overall game with 6 points,8 assists and 6 steals.Annabelle Horst had 10 points and 5 rebounds, Laney Baer had 7 points and a team high 16 rebounds and McKenna Long added 7 points and 5 assists. Leah French led Catoctin with 13 points and had numerous steals.Ellaina Case had 6 points and Adalyn DeGrange scored 5 points.

JV - Catoctin 31 Monocacy 20    Monocacy and Catoctin JV teams met Sunday at Thomas Johnson High School.  In a tightly contested first quarter, Monocacy took a 9-6 lead on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Hazel Gomez.  Catoctin controlled the second quarter with six players scoring including a 3-pointer from Emma Sparkman and a defensive shutout.  Catoctin led 20-9 at halftime.  Both teams played excellent defense after halftime.  Catoctin held a 24-11 lead at the end of a closely contested third quarter.  Monocacy found some momentum in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to 26-18, but Catoctin rallied and closed out the win 31-20.  Catoctin's Austin Droneburg led all scorers with 11 points, followed by 6 each from Alice Watson and Ellaina Case, 4 points from Abigal Morlan, 3 from Emma Sparkman (one 3-pointer) and 1 point from Addison Krietz.  Alora Turner led Monocacy's scoring with 8 points, followed by Hazel Gomez with 5 (one 3-pointer), Natalie Saxon with 4, and Jaclyn Albaugh with 3 points.

 

 

 

Game Summaries for 1/4/25

V - Mt. Airy 41 Walkersville 32     After a two week break for the holidays Mt Airy (3-1) hosted the Lions from Walkersville (0-5).  The Bulldogs jumped out to an early eight-point lead at the end of the first quarter 15-7.  The Lions battled tough but could never close the lead under 5 points the rest of the way and the Bulldogs cruised to the 41-32 win at home. The Bulldogs improve to 4-1 on the season while the Lions drop to 0-6.  Maddie Hawkins ended the game with a season high of 25 points and Julissa Almonte added 16 points for Mt Airy while the Lions were led by nine points each from Naila Ali-Goukoye and Amelie Pittinger.  The Bulldogs head west tomorrow to take on Clear Spring

JV - Mt Airy 16 Walkersville 8    Both teams came out with aggressive defense as Mt Airy took a 4-2 lead in the first quarter and was leading 8-3 at halftime. Both teams continued to struggle offensively in the second half but Mt Airy led by Carlie Alexander with 4 of her game high 6 points in the fourth quarter, helped Mt Airy secure the victory. Kendall Cohen contributed another 4 points and Maddy Janyska, Maddie Hancock and Lily Grubic each added 2. Walkersville was led by Emma Walz, Payton Zile, Ainsley McLellan and Jasmine Hinton, each with 2 points.

V – Urbana 35  Ballenger Creek 29  The Varsity Lady Bulldogs was back in action against the Lady Hawks. The Lady Hawks sealed the win 35-29. The Lady Hawks jumped out to a 14-2 lead going up in the first quarter 14-2  Second quarter the Lady Bulldogs got their offense going scoring 9 points in the second quarter. The Lady Hawks held their lead 19-11 at the half. Second half the Lady Bulldogs jumped out cutting the Lady Hawks to 2 19-17. The Lady Hawks answered back going on a run huge  offensive run taking the lead at the end of the third  quarter  31-21.  Fourth quarter both the Lady Bulldogs tried to come back but the Lady Hawks prevail to victory. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Olivia Meyers with 11 points. Eliana Alfaro chipped in 9 points. Samuela Melekewe added 5 points. The Lady Hawks was led by Madison Manguiri with 10 points. Teagan Pyles  chipped in 9 points.Kristen Behrsing added 7 points.

JV – Urbana 40  Ballenger Creek 1   The Jv Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Hawks in Saturday afternoon action. The Lady Hawks took the win 40-1. The Lady Hawks came out strong with their aggressive press taking the lead 26-1 at the half. Second half the Lady Bulldogs played well on both side of the court but the Lady Hawks strong offensive and defensive pressure help sealed the win and prevailed in victory. The Lady Hawks was led by Eva Zena,Sophia Villegas  and Brooklyn Walder  with 8 points. Emerson Jarvis, Dru Joseph, and Emma Schmitt chipped in 4 points. Arianna Tineo scored 1 point for the Lady Bulldogs.

V - Windsor Knolls 32  Poolesville 5    Windsor Knolls Girls V hosted Poolesville today. The first quarter started quickly for the Wolverines, jumping out to a 14-3 lead. At the half Windsor Knolls led 24-3.  Windsor Knolls was able to extend their lead in the second half with tough defense. Poolesville was led by Adriana Jones’s 5pts. The lady Wolverines were led by Haley Robertson and Kaleigh Golden with 9 pts each and Kamora Saunders with 5pts.

JV - Poolesville 36 Windsor Knolls 16    Windsor Knolls Girls JV hosted Poolesville JV today in a battle of unbeatens. The first quarter started slow for both teams and ended with Poolesville leading 9-5. At the half Poolesville led 13-7.  Poolesville was able to extend their lead in the second half with a suffocating press.  The Wolverines couldn't find the bottom of the basket throughout the game due to Poolesvilles defense and rebounding.  Poolesville was led by Marley Mitchel 10 pts, Addy White 9 pts and Jayda Stanton 8 pts. The lady Wolverines were led by Ella Muise 5 pts.  Annabel Shelhorse and Rylie Motes both had 4 pts. Chloe Merriweather and Grace Rahmati also contributed some additional points.

V - Catoctin 54 Williamsport 18     Catoctin hosted Williamsport early Saturday evening to start off 2025. In a game with 41 fouls called the first half was difficult for both teams. Catoctin led 12-2 after the first period behind 7 points from Leah French and 5 points from Abby Morlan. The second quarter was pretty even. Williamsport got 6 points from Tatum Koerting but Catoctin held the lead 21-10 at the half. Catoctin pulled away in the second half getting scoring from 7 players and played solid defense without fouling as much after the break. A 21 point fourth quarter propelled Catoctin to the 54-18 win. French was the high scorer with 19 points and she had 7 steals. Morlan had 11 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Alice Watson tallied 11 points. Adalyn DeGrange just missed the double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Koerting led Williamsport with 6 points, Madison Kloos had 4 points and Julianne Cauffman and Trinity Brown each had 3 points.

JV - Catoctin 51 Williamsport 5     Catoctin came out of the gate strong with good defense against Williamsport. Williamsport’s young team gave Catoctin a run for their money the first half of the game. Catoctin struggled with foul trouble but were able to pull out of it during the second half of the game. Leading scorers for Catoctin were Abigail Morlan and Ellaina Case with 15 points each with Alice Watson following with 9 points. Williamsport’s C.Leasure put up 4 points with F. Chambers with 1 point. 

V - FSK 40 Boonsboro 17   The FSK Eagles defeated the Boonsboro Warriors Saturday afternoon 40-17.  The Eagles got out to a commanding 23-0 halftime lead.  The Warriors were unable to cut into the lead playing an even 17-17 second half. The Eagles were led by Cheyenne Sinnot and Ava Himes who scored nine points each.  Boonsboro was led by Khloe Yates and Morgan Molesky who scored four each.

JV - FSK 34 Boonsboro 33   FSK traveled to Boonsboro to take on the Lady Warriors after the holiday break, with the visitors winning 34-33. It was obvious that both teams showed up ready to play as it was a hard-fought battle that would require Overtime to determine a winner. The first half was a see-saw battle that saw ties at the end of both periods with both teams going into the break knotted at 18 apiece. Boonsboro had a strong 3rd assuming a 4-point lead. However, FSK had the answer in the 4th to tie the game up for an overtime thriller ending regulation with a 30-30 tie. FSK would score first in overtime to take the initial lead, Grace Smith then nailed a 3 to take the lead. FSK would then score on a fast break that would give them the lead and the win. Nadalie Rill would lead all scorers with 22 total points. Leading the way for Boonsboro was Grace Smith with 16 points other big contributors were Jordan Dembo with 8 rebounds and 4 steals and McKenna Luther who added 5 rebounds and a tenacious defense.

V - West Frederick 35  Oakdale 32    The Lady Cadets Varsity team hosted the Oakdale Bears on Saturday January 4, 2025. Both teams started off strong in this rematch as the intensity was high on each end of the floor. The Cadets Shaniah Swanson drained a three pointer early and scored 7 of her game high of 11 points in the first quarter putting the Cadets ahead to end the quarter 9-7.  The second quarter was a battle as the Bears Lillian Leon scored 4 of her game high of 10 points bringing the game to a tie going in to halftime. 13-13 Starting the second half of the game the Cadets were able to build some momentum and take the lead ending the third quarter 23-16 Cadets. The Bears were able to shift the momentum and the final few minutes became a brawl as both teams fought until the very end bringing the fourth quarter to a tie of 29-29 going in to over time. Cadets won in overtime with Bella Donigian scoring 3 of her game high of 8 points in overtime. Top scorer leading all scorers was the Cadets Shaniah Swanson with 11 points. Other top scorers for the Cadets were Bella Donigian with 8 points and Kadence Seales with 7 points. Top scorers for the Bears were Lillian Leon with 10 points, Aubrey Doyle with 9 points, Carly Roosa and Jami Graham each with 4 points. 35-32 Cadets

JV – West Frederick 34  Oakdale 29   After playing the Oakdale Bears at the end of last year and the first team to play in the New Year was special. Knowing how the first game went, the expectations were to play a team that knew your strengths and weaknesses.  The Bears were relentless in their ability to challenge us through out the game.  The Cadets were pushed the entire the game that went back in forth with the score. At the end the Cadets prevailed with a win!  H. Chapman had 10 pts,C. Romano had 10 pts for the Cadets. G. Gonzales 13 pts, F. Bigham 7 pts for Oakdale.

 

Game Summaries for 12/22/24

V - Linganore 38  Brunswick 26     A back and forth score into the early second quarter made play exciting, but Brunswick's Railroaders fell to the Linganore Lancers 26 to 38. The up-tempo play of the first quarter resulted in numerous turnovers for both teams, but Linganore's man-to-man full court defense proved too much for the Roaders. Clara Nichols led Brunswick with 11 points, on three three-pointers and perfect from the foul line. Lancer McKenzie Kelly led all scorers with 16 points, including nine of her team's twelve 3rd quarter points. Teammate Anna Doy had seven, while Aviana Gorski and Brooklyn Dommel added four, Marleigh Salb three, and Sailor Hart and Mikaela Nixon put in two points. Addie Hsu five, Maya Lowery four, Madison Greenwood three, and Galilee Shullenbarger two points, with Kimber Mercer one to finish out Brunswick's scoring.

JV- Linganore 29  Brunswick 19     Linganore used a 9-0 4th quarter run to pull away from Brunswick, and went on to a 29-19 victory over the Railroaders.  Trailing 14-5 at the half, Brunswick outscored Linganore 11-6 in the 3rd quarter to pull with 4 points, 20-16, entering the final period.  But the Lancers were too strong and forced several key turnovers in the 4th quarter on their way to the win.  For Linganore, Crawford and Tortolani led the way with 6 points each.  Jones chipped in with 5, while Medellin and Poffenbarger each scored 4.  Brunswick was led by Makayla Ciccarelli with a game-high 10 points.  Jollene Droneburg contributed 3 points for Brunswick.  Linganore will return to action on 1/4 with a home game vs. Smithsburg, while Brunswick will welcome Boonsboro on 1/5.  

V - Middletown 40  Boonsboro 4    Right from the opening tip Middletown's smothering defense caused problems for the visiting Warriors.The Knights jumped out to a 22-3 halftime lead and never looked back. Despite the pressure from Middletown's defense, the Warriors never stopped fighting, continuing to hustle on both ends of the floor. The Knights were led by Avery Larson with 16 points, including going 6-6 from the free throw line, Reagan Murphy with 8 points, and Megan Tross chipped in with 5. The Warriors were led by Morgan Molesky with 2 points, Christiana Bittner with 1 and Jailynne Hammerman with 1.

JV - Middletown 38  Boonsboro 17    In this Sunday’s matchup, Middletown jumped out to an early lead and never relinquished it, resulting in a 38-17 victory.  With a balanced scoring attack, Middletown ended the first quarter with an 11-3 lead.  The second quarter was more of the same and the half ended with Middletown holding a 21-8 lead.  To start the second half, defensive efforts increased and both teams became more aggressive.  These efforts led to both teams earning trips to the free throw line and capitalizing from there.  Ultimately, Middletown’s defense made it difficult for Boonsboro to find any scoring rhythm.  Middletown was led in scoring by Stella Fogle with 10 points, followed by McKinna Hidalgo with 7, and 3 others with 4 points: Abbie Etter, Micaela Zeigler, and Lily Hockman.  Boonsboro was led in scoring by Juls Wetzel with 6 points, Devin McCary with 5, and Grace Smith with 4.

V - Monocacy 53  Walkersville 19     This game began with a quick energy, with Monocacy pulling away by the end of the first quarter, 18-7. The energy for Monocacy continued led by Sophia Burgee’s 12-point second quarter, going into halftime leading 36-9. Walkersville finally stepped into their defense in the second half and held Monocacy to 11 points and 6 points in the third and fourth quarter respectively. Monocacy beat the Lions, 53-19. Monocacy was led by Sophia Burgee with 22 points and Laney Baer with 10 points. Walkersville was led by Naila Ali-Goukoye with 10 points and Emily Bolino with 7 points.

JV – Monocacy 39  Walkersville 12    The Lady Lions hosted Monocacy Sunday afternoon. Monocacy beat Walkersville 12-39. Monocacy was led by Jaclyn Albaugh with 11 points, Alora Turner with 9 points, and Natalie Saxon with 7 points. Payton Frank and Payton Zile from Walkersville both had 4 points.

V – Windsor Knolls 40 Clear Spring 32    The Lady Blazers hosted Windsor Knolls on this pre-Christmas Sunday in an exciting match, which Windsor Knolls won 40-32. The first quarter started out hot for both teams with three pointers from the Blazers Robinson and Hensley, as well as a three from the Knolls Shipley. The first quarter would end 10-9 Blazers. The second quarter the Blazers would lock in on defense and held the Knolls to 5 points and took a 21-14 lead into halftime. The second half the Knolls came out on fire with Shipley adding another seven points to her game high 19 points. The Blazers couldn’t convert in the second half and the Knolls would end up winning the half 26-11. The Blazers were led by Stewart and Robinson with 7 points each, Beals would add 6 points, and Hensley would chip in 5 points. The Knolls were led by Shipley with 19 points, Langham and Petrie would add 6 points apiece. Merry Christmas to all!

JV – Windsor Knolls 34 Clear Spring 10 The Lady Blazers JV hosted Windsor Knolls JV this Sunday with the Knolls coming out on top 34-10. Both teams started out slow on offense with only 4 points being scored in the first period by the Knolls. After the first quarter the Knolls would fine their groove, however the Blazers could not get baskets to fall today. The Knolls would score 11, 10, and 9 points in the next 3 quarters while the Blazers would score just 10. The Blazers leading scorer was Blaire with 5 points. The Knolls would have seven girls find the box score and were led by Rahmati with 11 points and Merriwether with 8 points. Merry Christmas to all!  

JV - Poolesville 48  Crestwood 9    Crestwood hosted Poolesville in an exciting matchup. In the first quarter, Crestwood found themselves trailing by five, as both teams shot well. Poolesville capitalized on Crestwood’s turnovers, converting them into points. Despite the early deficit, both teams played with great energy. Camille Morrow and Marley Mitchell led Poolesville with 10 points each, while Eliana Morris scored seven points for Crestwood.

V - Oakdale 28  West Frederick 19     In Sunday's night cap at Oakdale High School the Bears hosted West Frederick.  Oakdale jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter 10-4 by moving the ball well on offense with Liz Bova leading the way with 7 points.  A defensive battle in the second quarter ended the half with Oakdale leading 15-9.  To start the second half Oakdale defense held West Frederick to only one basket in the 3rd quarter and extended their lead to 23-11.  A physical 4th quarter saw level scoring with West Frederick making a late run with Shaniah Swanson scoring her 4 points in the game in the last minute. Leading the way for West Frederick was Kadence Seals with 7 points.  Oakdale was able to hold their lead due to excellent rebounding by Aubrey Doyle with 17 rebounds.  Liz Bova lead the scoring for the Bears with 13 points and Bri Sims added 6 points in the win.

JV – West Frederick 34  Oakdale 26    Oakdale JV hosted West Frederick Sunday afternoon.  Leading scorers for Oakdale were Gabby Gonzales (12), Faith Bigham (6) and Anna Mills (4).  Leading scorers for West Frederick were Caly Ramano (11), Harper Chapmen (10) and Analle Kwadjason (6)

V - FSK 45  Smithsburg 38   FSK was led by Cheyenne Sinnot with 11 points, and Nevaeh Dotson added 10 points for the win.  Smithsburg was led by Zoe Shuster with a game high of 14 points, and Payton Patterson added 8 points.

JV - FSK 38  Smithsburg 30   FSK was led by Lilly Potts with 13 points, and Nadalie Rill had 15 points for the game high in the win. Smithsburg was led by Cam Gouff with 11 points, and Vivian Malott chipped in with 9 points.

V - Catoctin 40 Urbana 23  The Cougars used a balanced offense to seal the road win over the Hawks, 40 - 23.  After taking a 15 - 9 lead into halftime, Catoctin dominated the last two quarters to pull away.  Leading the scoring for Catoctin were Abigail Morian with 10 points and Ellaina Case with nine.  Urbana was led in scoring by Teagan Pyles with 8 points.  Hitting the boards for the Hawks were Emily Mitchel and Grace Pfau with four rebounds each and Maggie Slaght and Kirsten Behrsing with three rebounds each.

JV - Catoctin 37 Urbana 21   In an intense contest between Urbana and Catoctin, both teams showcased grit and determination on the court. Urbana came out strong in the first quarter, taking an early 8-5 lead behind Brooklyn Weidling’s impressive offensive performance, putting up 6 points to give her team momentum.

Catoctin, however, responded with a stellar second quarter, fueled by a combination of defensive pressure and offensive execution. Forcing multiple turnovers, Catoctin’s Alice Watson displayed her offensive prowess, with key contributions from Elliana Case and Abigail Morlan, who kept the momentum firmly in their team’s favor.

Urbana fought back in the third quarter, with Eva Zeng and Jacey Abreau leading the charge on offense. On the defensive end, Anabel Murphy and Mia Insari put in tireless efforts to limit Catoctin’s offensive opportunities and break through their press.

Despite Urbana’s resilience, Catoctin’s consistent defensive pressure and dynamic offensive strategies ultimately proved too much to overcome. Catoctin secured a hard-fought victory, demonstrating why they remain a formidable opponent on the court.

This matchup highlighted strong individual performances and team efforts, showcasing the competitive spirit of both teams.

V – Ballenger Creek 47  Clear Springs 21   The Varsity Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Blazers in the Lady Bulldogs final game before the holiday break.  The Lady Bulldogs sealed the win 47-21. The start of the first quarter the lady Blazers led 8-5. The Lady Bulldogs made adjustments and woke up on both ends of the floor taking the lead 16-5.  Second half the lady Blazers put up a great effort but it was the Lady Bulldogs who would prevail. The Lady Blazers was led by Alyssa Stewart with  9 points. Bailey Bussard chipped in 5 points. Savannah Robinson added 4 points. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Eliana Alfaro with 17 points. Lyla Riggs chipped in 15 points. Samuela Melekewe added 11 points.


JV – Ballenger Creek 29  Clear Springs 26   The Jv Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Blazers in a thriller Saturday afternoon game. The Lady Bulldogs sealed the win 29-26. The Lady Bulldogs came out strong in the first quarter taking the lead 8-5. The Lady Blazers defensive pressure in the second quarter picked up and tied the game 13-13 at the half.  The 3rd quarter both teams kept the game neck to neck going bucket to bucket capitalizing on defense and the Lady Bulldogs took the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter 22-20. In the beginning of the fourth quarter  both team's struggled to score. The Lady Blazers would take the lead 24-22. After a timeout was called by the Lady Bulldogs guard took a long 3 and the Lady Bulldogs took the lead 25-24. The Lady Blazers drove to the basket and scored taking the lead 26-25. Lady Bulldogs Amaya Darrell hit clutch free throws helping the Lady Bulldogs seal the victory. The Lady Blazers was led by Violet Osborne and  Julia Brown with 11 points. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Arianna Tineo with 12 points. Amaya Darrell chipped in 11 points. Emily Le added 4 points.

V - Mt Airy 21  Windsor Knolls 20   No Game Report

JV - Windsor knolls 30  Mt Airy 27    JV - Windsor Knolls 30  Mt. Airy 27    The Lady JV Wolverines hosted the Lady JV Bulldogs in an epic back and forth thriller.  Mt. Airy came out firing and led after the first quarter 8-6. At halftime Mt. Airy led Windsor Knolls 16-12.  As the second half went on Windsor Knolls was able to take control as they kept getting the ball down low and capitalizing. Annabel Shellhorse led the Wolverines with 10 points. Ella Muise 8 pts, Chloe Merriwether, Macey Cox and Lakeysha Chadwell-English all contributed 4 points each.   Mt. Airy was led by Lily Grubic with 12 points followed by Kendall Cohen with 7. Maddy Janyska, Bianca Roman, Etta Barkley and Carlie Alexander all contributed points for the Bulldogs. 

V - Catoctin 49  Walkersville 11   Catoctin Lady Cougars hosted Walkersville Lady Lions on Saturday afternoon. Catoctin came out hot jumping ahead 13-4 in the first quarter getting points from 5 different players. Lady Cougar Leah French dominated quarter two with 10 points and stellar defense held the Lady Lions to just a three pointer from Naila Ali-Goukoye. Lady Cougars led 30-7 at the half. The third quarter was all Catoctin as well pushing the lead to 43-9 after three quarters. Catoctin completed the victory with strong defense until the end, winning 49-11. French led the way for Catoctin with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Adalyn DeGrange was her usual steady self with 8 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Alice Watson chipped in with 8 points, Ellaina Case scored 6 points with 3 steals and Abby Morlan pulled down 8 rebounds, had 3 assists and 2 steals. Ali-Goukoye led Walkersville with 7 points, Brynn Ambush and Calista Bracken each had 2 points.

JV - Catoctin 51  Walkersville 10     Lady Cougars came out of the gate with good defense and shutting down Walkersville’s top shooter. Ellaina Case had 16 points followed by Alice Watson with 15 points. Other notably shooters for the Cougars were Abigail Morlan with 8 points and Austin Droneburg with 7 points. Top Scorers for Walkersville were Gina Doubs and Payton Frank with 4 points each.

V - Monocacy  55  West Frederick 22     The Lady Cadets Varsity team hosted the Monocacy Monarchs on Saturday December 21, 2024. The Monarchs took the lead early with Sophia Burgee making 11 of their 13 points and Victoria Clayton getting on the board for the Cadets ending the first quarter 13-3 Monarchs. The second quarter  Cadets Shaniah Swanson hit a three pointer and the Monarchs Melissa Yeboah scored five points stretching their lead going in to halftime with the Monarchs up 27-8. The Cadets looked better in the second half but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the Monarchs who maintained a steady lead. Top scorer leading all scorers was the Monarchs Sophia Burgee with 24 points. Cadets top scorers were Victoria Clayton with 8 points, Kadence Seales with 6 points, Shaniah Swanson with 5 points. Other top  scorers for the Monarchs were Melissa Yeboah with 9 points and McKenna Long with 7 points. 55-22 Monarchs

JV – Monocacy 29  West Frederick 10   The Lady Cadets jv team played Monocacy at FHS with the Monarchs taking a early lead. Unfortunately the Cadets couldn’t get anything going their way through out the game. With 15pts Natalie Saxon lead the way, with Jaclyn chipping in 10pts for Monocacy. The Cadets Jordan Shook led the way with 4pts with the rest of the Cadets players having 2 pts or less.  

V - Poolesville 39  Williamsport 25    Williamsport varsity middle school hosted Poolesville. Top scorers for Poolesville were Addy Whote with 14 points and Ariana Jones with 10 points. Williamsport was led by Vada Coffin with 9 points and Trinity Brown with 8 points . Poolesville defeated Williamsport 39-25.

JV - Poolesville 47  Williamsport 2    Poolesville defeated Williamsport Saturday night 47-2. Poolesville pressure defense created lots of fast break opportunities and they capitalized early and often. Eight different players contributed offensively. They were led by Addy White with 11 points. Sofia Nalvarte and Brea Hebron added 8pts a piece.

V - Smithsburg 55 - North Hagerstown 31    North Hagerstown Queens hosted Smithsburg Saturday ending in a 55 - 31 Smithsburg Victory. Smithsburg Malott led all scorers with 14points, Patterson 13points , Sagba 12 points, Smith 7points, Shuster 6points, North was led by Sanders 12 points , Knight 9points,Morris 6 points, and Myers with 4 points 

JV - Smithsburg 26  North Hagerstown 19  North Hagerstown Queens hosted Smithsburg Saturday ending in 26 - 19 Smithsburg Victory.  Smithsburg Malott led all scorers with 13points, Anderson 5points, Gouff 4points, and Cirravelli 2points.  North was led by Wilson with 5points ,Shorts & Engemise 4points and Roles with 2points

V - Ballenger Creek 48  Williamsport 13    The Varsity Lady Bulldogs was back in the Bulldog arena hosting the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Bulldogs took home their 3 victory of the season 48-13. The beginning of the game both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm going. The Lady Bulldogs answered the wake up call taking the lead at the end of the first quarter 22-1. Second half the Lady Wildcats scored 7 points putting much effort on both  on the offensive and defensive side. The Lady Bulldogs defensive pressure and outside shooting helped the Lady Bulldogs prevailed to victory. The Lady Wildcats was led by Madison Kloos with 5 points. Miah Banzhoff chipped in 4 points. The Lady Bulldogs was led by 7th grade guard Olivia Meyers with a season high of 26 points. Scoring 20 of her 26 points in the first half. Lyla Riggs chipped in 10 points. Eliana Alfaro added 6 points.

JV - Ballenger Creek 34  Williamsport 4    The Jv Lady Bulldogs hosted the Jv Wildcats in Monday night Basketball  action. The Jv Lady Bulldogs sealed their first win 34-4. The first quarter the Lady Bulldogs came out hot shutting the Lady Wildcats  out 14-0. Second quarter the Lady Wildcats scored their first basket of the game. The Lady Bulldogs took the lead at the half 22-2 Second half the Lady Wildcats continued to play hard from start to finish and never gave up. The Lady Bulldogs hot shooting, aggressive defense and chemistry helped sealed their first victory. The Lady Wildcats was led by Aria Bitoni and Rayanna Stewart each with 2 points. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Amaya Darrell with 9 points. Clara Main and Arianna Tineo chipped in 6 points. Molly Heaney added 4 points.

 

Game Summaries for 12/15/24

V - FSK 40 Mt. Airy 39    In a thriller in Mt. Airy, FSK's Dotsun hit a 3 pointer with 4 seconds left to claim the dramatic win over the Bulldogs.  In a physical contest the Eagles jumped out to a 12-1 lead in the first quarter.  Mount Airy pulled to within 2 at half as FSK led 18-16.  In a foul ridden game with over 40 fouls the Bulldogs held a 2-point lead with just 16 seconds remaining.  The Eagles gained possession trailing by two as time was running out when Dotsun stepped up and drained a long 3 pointer to secure the win for FSK.  The Bulldogs were led by strong games by Julissa Almonte (13 points), Maddie Hawkins (9 points), and Kellyn McCarthy (7 points).  Ava Hines led the Eagles with 13 points and Sinnot had 10 points and Dotsun had eight.  

JV - FSK 25 Mt Airy 11   FSK came out strong scoring the games first 10 points. They continued to build on their lead through the 2nd and 3rd quarters thanks to 8 points from both Natalie Rill and Raegan Dietz. Mt Airy fought hard until the end, creating a few turnovers and transition baskets in the 4th quarter. They were led by Ashlynn Harrison with 5 points and Kendall Cohen with 4 points.

V  -  Linganore 32  Catoctin 29     The Linganore Lancers hosted Catoctin in what turned out to be a very exciting game.  Catoctin got off to a quick offensive start, scoring 10 points in the first quarter, which included a 3-pointer from Leah French and six points from Adalyn DeGrange, who was also three of four from the free throw line.  Linganore struggled with early turnovers and could not get on the board until the second quarter.  Tori Capone led the second quarter scoring with six of Linganore's eight points;  however, Catoctin still led Linganore 16-8 at the half.  The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game.  Linganore came out strong offensively and defensively, forcing a number of turnovers and putting up 15 points while holding Catoctin to just two points.  Linganore led 23-18 at the start of the fourth quarter, and despite Catoctin scoring 11 points in the final period, Linganore scored nine points and held on for the win.  Linganore was led by Brooklyn Dommel and Tori Capone, both with 8 points, and Anna Doy with 6 points, which included a 3-pointer and two clutch free throws by Doy in the final minutes of the game.  Catoctin was led by Leah French and Adalyn DeGrange, both with 10 points, and Alice Watson with 6 points.

JV - Linganore 44 Catoctin 22    The Linganore Lancers defeated the Catoctin Cougars wire to wire with a final score of 44-22. It was all Linganore from start to finish, largely thanks to their defense, which led to easy offensive production. Even though the Lancers played a well rounded game on both sides of the court, their offense was led by McKinley Hinkle with a game high 15 points and Maia Medellin with 12 points. Although it was a challenging game for the Cougars offensively, the Cougars were lead in scoring by Alice Watson with 13 points followed by Emma Sparkman with three points. 

V - Boonsboro 23 Clear Spring 22    The Boonsboro Warrior Varsity defeated the Blazers of Clear Spring at home 23-22 on Sunday.  Clear Spring led at the half 8-7, while both teams had offensive spurts in the second half.  Jailynne Hammerman led the Warriors with seven points and twelve rebounds.  Christiana Bittner and Morgan Molesky added six points each.  Clear Spring was led by Savannah Robinson who scored seven in a balanced offensive effort where eight of ten Blazers scored.

JV - Clear Spring 21 Boonsboro 18   The Clear Spring Blazers traveled to Boonsboro to take on the Lady Warriors. The first half was a hard fought defensive battle in which the teams went into the half with the Blazers leading 7-6. The remainder of the game was a see-saw battle with both teams trading the lead several times. The Blazers who trailed by 3 with less than 2 minutes left were able to capitalize on free throws and sink a couple of critical buckets in the final moments to escape with the 21-18 victory. Leading all scorers was Lauralyn Blair for the Blazers with 6 points, while Josslyn Nelson led the Warriors with 4.

V - Monocacy 41  Middletown 29   In a battle of the previously unbeatens, both teams got off to a fast start, with Monocacy up 12-11 at the end of the first quarter. However, the Knights went ice cold from the floor in the second quarter and the Mustangs took advantage with multiple run outs, giving them a six point advantage going into halftime. The Mustangs came out strong in the third, putting together a game-high 13 point quarter. This proved to be too much for the Knights, though outscoring the Mustangs in the fourth quarter, could not overcome the offensive efforts put up by Monocacy. The Monocacy Mustangs remain unbeaten and were led by McKenna Long and Laney Baer with 13 points each, and Melissa Yeboah with 8. Middletown was led by Reagan Murphy with 14 points and Avery Larson with 10.

JV - Monocacy 19  Middletown 14    It was a back-and-forth defensive battle this evening between Monocacy and Middletown that ultimately ended with Monocacy coming out on top 19-14.  Both teams came out in the first quarter assessing the defense and looking for good matchups, resulting in Monocacy leading 6-3 after one quarter.  Middletown found some favorable matchups in the second quarter and went on a 8-4 run and grabbed a one point lead at halftime.  Both teams ramped up their defensive efforts in the third quarter where Middletown continued to hold on to a narrow lead after three.  Monocacy’s defensive pressure proved to be too much in the end as Middletown could not get into any offensive rhythm.  Monocacy was led in scoring by Alora Turner with 6, Jaclyn Albaugh and Hazel Gomez with 4, Natalie Saxon with 3, and Phoebe Smith with 2.  Middletown was led in scoring by Abbie Etter with 4, while Charlotte Moore, Courtney Bidinger, McKinna Hidalgo, and Julianna Grady all contributed with a basket.

V - Brunswick 54  Poolesville 18   Brunswick's press held Poolesville to single digits in the first half in the Railroaders’ first win of the season 54-18.  Roader Galilee Shullenbarger (two three-pointers, five rebounds, three assists) led all scorers with 13, while Marley Mitchel had twelve for Poolesville.

A quick, Poolesville full court press in the third quarter helped them put a flurry of points on the board. Blocks abounded in the game for both sides with Roaders Addie Hsu and Serenity Morris and Falcon Ariana Jones sending numerous attempts soaring out of bounds.

Brunswick’s Clara Nichols had ten points, eight rebounds, and four assists.  Madison Greenwood had seven points and seven steals. Hsu had five points and nine rebounds. All Roaders contributed to scoring: Addison Eye and Maya Lowery four, Kimber Mercer (nine rebounds) three, and Ashlynn Lafever, Elle Putnam (one assist), Clare Butler, and Morris put in two points.

Brooklyn Corbett, Ananya Mulukutla, and Genevieve Shelton (100% from the free throw line) all had two points for the Falcons.

JV - Poolesville 42 Brunswick 15     Despite jumping out to an early 5-0 lead, the Brunswick JV girls had no answers for the Poolesville full court press as Poolesville cruised to a 42-15 win over the Railroaders.  Poolesville would take a 20-9 lead to the half and never look back, outscoring Brunswick 22-6 in the second half.  Regan Mayer and Addy White were the leading scorers for Poolesville with 9 points a piece, while Jayda Stanton and Emma Urquilla each chipped in with 7.  Charlotte Afsar added 4 points for the winners.  For Brunswick, Annabelle Boyer led the way with 4 points, while Karis Phillips, Katie Paschalides, and Makayla Ciccarelli each had 3.  Poolesville remains undefeated on the year, while Brunswick drops to 2-3.

V- Oakdale 46  Walkersville 21   Oakdale hosted Walkersville for the night cap games this weekend for the girls.  Oakdale jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter with the help of 8 points from Jami Graham.  Naila Ali-Goukoye lead Walkersville with 5 points in the quarter.  The second quarter saw the Bears extend their lead to 32-12 with solid defense and balanced scoring from Makenna Bales and Lillian Leon both with 5 points, and Bri Sims with 4.  The second half was a good defensive battle with the final score being 46 - 21 Oakdale.  Leading scorer for Walkersville was Naila Ali-Goukoye with 11 points.  Oakdale was lead by Jami Graham and Lillian Leon with 11 each, as well as Makenna Bales with 8 points and Bri Sims with 7.

JV – Oakdale 34  Walkersville 19   Oakdale JV hosted Walkersville Sunday afternoon.  After a closely contested 1st quarter, Oakdale jumped out to a 19-8 lead at the half led by Gabby Gonzales of Oakdale contributing 7 points.  The 3rdquarter saw the Bears extend their lead to 28-15 with balanced scoring from Gabby Gonzales, Faith Bigham and Rikissha Nelluri.  The final score was Oakdale 34 and Walkersville 19.  Leading scorers for Walkersville were Payton Frank, Payton Zile and Jay’ lynn Adams all with 4 points.  Oakdale scoring was led by Gabby Gonzles (14), Faith Bigham (8) and Rishikka Nelluri (6).

JV – Smithsburg 47  Crestwood 14    Smithburg led from the beginning to the end.  Leafing scorer for Smithsburg was Elyse Anderson with 17 points.   Camryn Gouff added 14 points in the win. Crestwood was led by Addie Murray and Nia Bowens with 4 points each.

V - Windsor Knolls 41  North Hagerstown 33    Windsor Knolls visited the North Hagerstown Queens this Sunday which ended in a Windsor Knolls Victory 41- 33. Windsor Knolls led her team with 11 points, Langham 9 points , Robertson 6points, Durbin 4points & Cox,Kline,Petric,Saunders all had 2 points.  North Queens was led by Knight and Sanders with 13 points each , Morris 5 points and Gingrich 2points 

JV - Windsor Knolls 39  North Hagerstown 12     Windsor Knolls visited the North Hagerstown Queens this Sunday which ended in a Windsor Knolls Victory 39-12.  Windsor Knolls Shellhorse led all scorers with 13 points, Merrinether 7points, Motes 5points, Muise 4points, Cox 3points , English,Pydiganta,Crowell all had 2 points and Rahmati 1 point. North was lead by Shorts 4points, & Huang,Ware,Engemise,Wilson all had 2 points

V - Mt Airy 27  Poolesville 22     In a defensive struggle Mount Airy built a twelve-point lead three minutes into the second half.  The Falcons battled back and cut the lead to four midways through the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs closed out the game to earn the win.  The Bulldogs were led by Elise Uhlig with 7 points and Maddie Hawkins and Julissa Almonte each chipped in 6 points.  Poolesville's Stanton had 10 points and Mauer had 8 to lead the Falcons. 

JV - Poolesville 49  Mt Airy 9    Poolesville press helped them jump out to a 16 – 3 lead after the first quarter. They did a great job of spreading out the scoring with 10 different players contributing, including 8 points each from Marley Mitchel, Jayda Stanton and Lily Weyrauch. Addy White also added 6 points. Mt Airy tightened up their defense in the fourth quarter but the lead was too much to overcome. Mt Airy was led by Ashlynn Harrison with 5 points. Etta Barkley and Maddy Janyska also added 2 points each.

V - Ballenger Creek 31  Windsor Knolls 23     The Varsity Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Wolverines. The Lady Bulldogs sealed their second win  of the season 31-23. Both teams got off to a slow offensive start and the Lady Wolverines took the lead at the end of the first quarter 5-4. Second quarter the Lady Bulldogs found their spark scoring 11 points taking the lead at the half 15-11. The start of the second half the Lady Bulldogs started off hot forcing multiple turnovers taking the lead at the end of third quarter 23-16. Fourth quarter the Lady Wolverines would answer with ball pressure causing turnovers and cutting the lead down to 5. Both teams played a strong aggressive defensive game but the Lady Bulldogs prevailed with another victory. The Lady Wolverines was led by Josephine Shipley with 6 points.Allyson Petrie, Audrey Langham and Hailey Durbin chipped in 4 points. Madison Cox chipped in 3 points. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Eliana Alfaro with 14 points. Olivia Meyers chipped in 11 points.

JV – Windsor Knolls 33  Ballenger Creek  13    The Jv Lady Bulldogs were back in action against the Lady Wolverines. The Lady Wolverines sealed the victory 33-13. The first quarter the Lady Wolverines shut out the Lady Bulldogs 10-0. Second quarter the Lady Bulldogs found some light on the offensive side scoring 7 points cutting the lead 12-7. The Wolverines scored 5 quick points at the end of the second quarter going up 17-7 at half. Second half the Lady Wolverines came out with an aggressive defense going up at the end of the third quarter 25-9.  Lady bulldogs try to answer back cutting the lead to 10 in the fourth quarter but the Lady Wolverines defense answered back sealing the victory. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Emily Le with 6 points. Amaya Darrell chipped in 4 points. The Lady Wolverines was led by Grace Rahmati and Chole Merriwether each scoring 10 points. Macey Cox chipped in 3 points.

V - West Frederick 35  Walkersville 28   The Lady Cadets Varsity team hosted the Walkersville Lions on Saturday December 14, 2024. The Cadets attacked the paint early drawing fouls from their opponents and scoring 6 of their 10 points from the free throw line in the first quarter. Leading 10-5. The second quarter was a closer match-up as both teams dropped out of their full court press allowing each team to move the ball around on offense. The first half ended with the Cadets leading 18-12. The Cadets stretched their lead starting off the second half with the third quarter being their best quarter offensively putting them ahead 32-19 going in to the final quarter. The Lions out scored the Cadets in the fourth quarter by six points. Top scorer leading all scorers was the Lions Emily Bolino with 13 points. Cadets top scorers were Kadence Seales with 11 points, Shaniah Swanson with 8 and Nuria Timm with 6 points. Other top  scorers for the Lions were Naila Ali-Goukoye with 8 points and Amelie Pittinger with 6 points. 35-28 Cadets

V - Oakdale 32 Urbana 20  In the Hawks' home opener, the Bears used runs in the second and fourth quarters to pull out the road win, 32 - 20.  After being tied up at six after one quarter, Oakdale outscored Urbana by five points to take a 15 - 10 lead going into halftime.  It was a defensive third quarter and the Bears were able to stretch their lead to six heading into the final quarter.  Oakdale rode the hot hand of Lillian Leon, who scored seven points in the quarter, which was too much for the Hawks to overcome.  Leading the scoring for Oakdale was Liz Bova with 11 points and Leon with nine.  Urbana was lead by Siena Esposito's 6 points and 11 rebounds.  Also hitting the boards for the Hawks were Madison Manguiri with six rebounds, Kirsten Behrsing with five, Dakota Washington with four and Bella Muniz with three.  Washington lead the Hawks with four steals.

JV - Urbana 26. Oakdale 13   In their first home game of the season, Urbana’s JV basketball team delivered a commanding performance against Oakdale. Urbana's relentless defensive pressure and effective full-court press set the tone early, holding Oakdale to just 2 points in the first half while building a 14-2 lead.  Despite Urbana's dominance, Oakdale showed resilience in the fourth quarter, with Tallulah sparking a late surge by scoring 4 quick points. However, Urbana's balanced scoring effort and strong defense proved too much to overcome.  Leading the way for Urbana were Brooklyn Walder and Makayla Randolph, each scoring 6 points. Brooklyn Weidling and Emma Schmitt followed with 4 points a piece, while Eva Zeng and Jacey Abreu also contributed key baskets to secure the win. Urbana's cohesive team effort and defensive intensity were the difference-makers in this impressive home opener victory.

V - Smithsburg 47 Brunswick 45    Brunswick was led by Madison Greenwood with 11 points. Galilee Shullenbarger and Serenity Morris both chipped in with 8 points a peice. Smithsburg was led by Vivan Malott with a game high of 22 points.  Payton Paterson chipped in 11 points for the Smithsburg team.

JV - Brunswick 25 Smithsburg 12   Brunswick was led by Makayla Ciccarelli, Jubilee Shullenbarger, Harper Hahn, and Skylar French all scoring 4 points each. Smithsburg was led by Natalie Smith with 7 points.

V - Catoctin 28  FSK 19    Catoctin hosted FSK Saturday evening in a game that was an absolute defensive battle with little offensive flow.  Both teams had players foul out. The first quarter was 5-1 Catoctin with Leah French getting 3 points. FSK clawed closer in  the second quarter behind 4 points from Nadalie Rill and 3 pointers from Ava Hines and Cheyenne Sinnot.  Catoctin led 12-11 at the half. FSK took the lead in quarter three as Catoctin managed foul trouble with only 7 players. FSK lead 16-14 after three quarters. The fourth quarter was all Catoctin though as they outscored FSK 14-3 in the final frame to win 28-19. Leah French who played sparingly due to fouls scored 6 in the final frame and Adalyn Degrange tallied 4 to help secure the win. For the game French led Catoctin with 9 points and 3 steals. Alice Watson scored 7 points and secured 6 rebounds. Degrange controlled the glass again with 13 rebounds and tallied 6 points and had 4 steals. Hazel Watson chipped in with 3 points and 6 rebounds. FSK was led by Sinnot with 7 points, Rill had 4 points and Liv Thomas and Ava Hines had 3 points each on three point shots.

JV - FSK 46 Catoctin 41    The lady cougars fought a hard fight against FSK. It was a fast paced game. Cougars fought hard on defense but got tried in the second half with only have 6 girls. The final score was 46-41 FSK. Alice Watson had 31 points for Catoctin.  Elaina case and Scarlet riffle added 6 and 4 points respectively . The leading scorer’s for FSK were Reese smith with 16 points and Nadalie Rill with 15 points. 

JV - Middletown 39, Crestwood 0   The Crestwood Lady Cavaliers hosted the Middletown Lady Knights in a tough matchup today. Despite a strong effort, Crestwood struggled offensively, while the Lady Knights excelled in their ball movement and execution. Middletown’s offense was on point, and they dominated the flow of the game. Avery Sacchetti led the charge for the Lady Knights, finishing with seven points and contributing to the team's overall strong performance. 

V – North Hagerstown 31  Williamsport 20   Williamsport visited the North Hagerstown Queens for their opening home game of the season that ended in a North Victory 31 - 20. North Knight led all scorers with 17 points, sanders 6 points , Myers,Montgomery,Morris with 2 points & Legette 1 point.  Williamsport Cuffman and Coffin had 4 points each , Koerting 3 points and Magaha 2 points

JV – North Hagerstown 21  Williamsport 5    Williamsport visited the North Hagerstown Queens for their opening home game of the season that ended in a North Victory 21 - 5.  North Shorts led all scorers with 8 points, Engemise 6 points, Huang 4 points & weeks,Bings had 2 points Williamsport Bitonti had 5 points

V - Monocacy 50 - Brunswick 20     A strong first half propelled Monocacy in defeating Brunswick 50-20.The winners held Brunswick to 6 first half points while scoring 30 points. Annabelle Horst led Monocacy with a stellar overall game, scoring 15 points,with 9 rebounds,4 assists and 5 steals. Sophia Burgee added 15 points with Melissa Yeboah scoring 11 points and 5 steals.Brunswick got 8 points from Galilee Shullenbarger.

JV - Monocacy 33 Brunswick 2     Monocacy and Brunswick JV teams met Sunday at Thomas Johnson High School.  Monocacy started fast and jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter - a 3-pointer by Natalie Saxon early got Monocacy rolling.  Five players contributed to Monocacy scoring and Brunswick defense became stingy in the second quarter.  Monocacy held a 22-0 advantage at halftime.  Both teams continued to play strong defense in the second half.  Monocacy's only field goal in the third quarter was another 3-pointer by Natalie Saxon.  Monocacy scratched out three more field goals in the fourth quarter from Brunswick's stingy defense and cruised to a 33-2 win.  Natalie Saxon of Monocacy led all scorers with 14 points (including two 3-pointers).  Other Monocacy scoring included Abby Tootill with 7 points, Jaclyn Albaugh with 6 points and 2 points each from Alora Turner, Hazel Gomez and Charlotte Moxley.  Brunswick's leading scorer was Katie Paschalides with 2 points (two free throws).

V – Middletown 39  FSK 16    The varsity Lady Knights continued the success of the junior varsity team by defeating the varsity Eagles with a score of 39-16. The Knights showcased a balanced scoring attack, led by Cara Carpenter, who contributed a game-high 13 points, followed closely by Addi Benler with 11 points. On the other hand, the Eagles struggled offensively, Naveah Dotson had a team-high 5 points, while Liv Thomas pitched in 4. The Knights’ defense proved to be too strong for the Eagles, and despite a few late-game pyrotechnics distractions, the victory belonged to the visiting Knights.

JV – Middletown 48   FSK 29   On a sunny Sunday in Union Bridge, the FSK JV Eagles faced the Middletown Knights, who secured a 48-29 victory. Avery Sachetti led the Knights with 15 points, while Charlotte Moore and Lily Hockman contributed 12 and 9 points, respectively.    Nadalie Rill was the Eagles' top scorer, finishing with 12 points. Lilly Potts added 5 points, and Lily Honeycutt chipped in 4. The Knights showcased precision passing on Offense and smothering defense, ultimately earning them the win in this hard-fought matchup!

JV - Linganore 42, Crestwood 4   Crestwood hosted their first home game of the season, but the Lady Cavaliers were overpowered by the visiting Lady Lancers, who came away with a dominant 42-4 victory. The game started with a quick burst from Linganore, who built an early lead with a 13-1 advantage by the end of the first quarter. The Lady Lancers’ full-court press throughout the entire game was a constant thorn in Crestwood’s side, as they struggled to handle the defensive pressure throughout the game.   Linganore's offense was led by Kara Crawford, who finished as the game’s top scorer with nine points. McKinley Hinkle also contributed significantly, adding eight points to the scoreboard. On the defensive end, Linganore's intensity prevented Crestwood from finding any consistent rhythm. For Crestwood, Elise Mills and Nia Bowins were the only players to get on the board, each scoring two points. Despite their best efforts, the Lady Cavaliers had difficulty breaking through Linganore’s defense and generating quality scoring opportunities.

V - Smithsburg 38  Boonsboro 18    Boonsboro Varsity was defeated by Smithsburg Varsity at home Sunday 38-18.  Smithsburg took a 9-8 lead into halftime, and extended it in the second half with their strong inside presence and hot outside shooting (five second half three pointers).  Emma Smith led the way for Smithsburg with thirteen points (four threes) with Zoe Shuster adding nine.  Christiana Bittner led Boonsboro with six points with Kennedy Kirkpatrick adding four with strong defense.

JV – Boonsboro 26   Smithsburg 8     The Boonsboro Lady Warriors welcomed the Smithsburg leopards for their home opener. Smithsburg would strike first as Maggie Herbst hit a mid-range jump for the first score of the game. The Warriors quickly responded with relentless defense and a flurry of point closing out the first half 14-2. The Leopards were able to score 3 points in each of the last 2 periods, but that was not enough to keep pace with the Lady Warriors who closed out the game with a 26-8 victory. McKenna Luther would lead all scorers with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Grace Smith added 6 points along with 9 of the teams 33 steals. Elyse Anderson led Smithsburg with 4 pts.

V - Windsor Knolls 28  Williamsport 10     The Lady Wolverines Varsity Team hosted Williamsport on Sunday December 8, 2024. The first quarter ended in a 2-2 tie with a great defensive effort from both teams.  Windsor Knolls took control of the game with a strong second quarter, finishing with a 11-point halftime lead. The second half consisted of a few scoring stretches and a defensive 4th quarter, ending in a Windsor Knolls win 28-10.  The Wolverine's balanced their scoring with 4 pts each from Audrey Langham, Josie Shipley, Jessica Warner, Allyson Petrie and Kimora Sunders.  

Trinity Brown, Julianne Coffman, Tatum Koerting, and Jordy Wood each had 2 points each for Williamsport. 

JV- Windsor Knolls 42  Williamsport 8    The Jv Lady Wolverines opened their season with an impressive win over Williamsport. The first quarter ended close with Windsor Knolls leading 10-4.  Windsor Knolls pulled away as the game went on with a great offensive and defensive showing.  Ella Muise led Windsor Knolls with 10 pts. Grace Rahmati and Annabel Shellhorse both contributed 9 points each.  Rylie Motes 6 pts, Megan Crowell 4 pts. Veda Pydiganta and Macey Cox had 2 points each. 

Williamsport fought hard till the end with Makaiya Smith, Charlotte Leasure, Finlay Chambers and Serenty Easterling all having 2 points each. 

V – North Hagerstown 36 Clear Spring 24    North Hagerstown visited the Blazers for the Blazers opening home game of the season that ended in a North victory 36-24. The game was a close game going back and forth through the first quarter of the game with balanced scoring from both sides ending with North up 9-8. The second quarter the would only manage 5 points to Norths 13 which ended up being the decisive quarter, making the halftime score 22-13 North. North would lead the 3rd quarter 8-4 and the final quarter the Blazers would pressure the ball but North held strong finishing the game with a 36-24 victory. The Blazers Stewart and Pinkston ended with 8 points a piece and Hensley chipped in 4 points. North’s Knight led all scorers with 16 points. North’s Sanders had 8 points, and Myers and Morris both had 6 points. Good luck to both teams this season.

JV – Clear Spring 36  North Hagerstown 17 The Lady Blazers JV opened their first home game of the season with a 36-17 Blazers victory. The Blazers came out ready to play today with tough defensive effort by the whole team leading to 18-11 halftime score. The second half the Blazers would lock in defensively and only give up 6 points to North all half. The Blazers were lead by Bowersox and Britton with 8 points a piece, Greene would toss in 7 points and Blair would add 6 more. North was lead by Shorts with 8 points and Fulghum-Roles with 6 points.  Good luck to both teams this season.

V – Middletown 27  West Frederick 12        The Lady Cadets Varsity team hosted the Middletown Knights on Saturday December 7, 2024. The Knights took the lead early with Avery Larson scoring an uncontested three pointer to get on the board. The 1st half ended with the Knights up 14-6. The Knights stayed consistent on offense stretching their lead in the second half. Top scorer leading all scorers was the Knights Avery Larson with 10 points. Cadets top scorers were Kadence Seales with 6 points and Shaniah Swanson with 4 points. Other top  scorers for the Knights were Quinn Wagner with 6 points and Addison Benler with 5 points. 27-12 Knights

JV -  Middletown 20   West Frederick 19      West Frederick Middle School Cadets played a hard fought game against MiddleTown Middle School. The Cadets came back in the second half but the Knights won 20 to 19 at end.  Leading scorers for WFMS were Anaelle Kwadjambou with 8 and C. Romano with 11. Leading scorers for Middletown town were Avery sacchetch with 7 and Stella Fogle with 6.  It was an intense struggle of wills for the first game of the season for WFMS girls.

V – Linganore 43   Boonsboro 8     Both teams got off to a slow offensive start, with Linganore leading 8-0 after the first quarter.  In the second quarter, both teams improved their offensive production and Linganore lead 21-4 at the half.  Marleigh Salb lead all scorers in the first half with nine points.  Linganore added 14 points in the third quarter, with eight points coming from McKenzie Kelly.  Linganore played a tough man defense with Rachel Tomaski, Marleigh Salb, and Brooklyn Dommel accounting for a number of steals.  In the fourth quarter, Boonsboro played a tough zone defense and held Linganore to only 8 points.  Linganore's offense was led by McKenzie Kelly with 15 points, Avianna Gorski with 10 points, and Marleigh Salb with nine points.  Boonsboro was led by Jailyne Hammerman with four points, Maria Marquis with two points, and Christina Bittner with two points.

JV- Linganore 48 Boonsboro 13​     The Linganore Lancers defeated the Boonsboro Warriors with a final score of 48-13. The Lancers played with a strong, aggressive defense throughout the entire game. Their offense could not be stopped and the Lancers continued to roll up the score. The Lancers were led by Kennedy Poffenbarger with a game high, 14 points. Natalie Corrigan chipped in with 12 points, while Nainika Sai Bhimisetty added another nine points. The Warriors were led in scoring by McKenna Regalia who scored four points, indicating a challenging game for Boonsboro offensively. 

V - Ballenger Creek 44   Poolesville 22      The Varsity Lady Bulldogs opened up their season  opener facing the Lady Falcons. The Lady Bulldogs sealed the win 44-22. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out on a 22-0 run going up 22-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Falcons answered back and scored 9 points in the second quarter. The Lady Bulldogs took the lead at the half 31-9. Second half the Lady Falcons try to slow down the Lady Bulldogs momentum but the Lady Bulldogs aggressive defense helped seal the win. The Lady Falcons was led by Ella Charbonneau with 11 points. Arianna Jones chipped in 5 points. The Lady Bulldogs was led by Eliana Alfaro with 20 points, scoring 14 of her 20 points in the first half. Olivia Meyers and Lyla Riggs chipped in 7 points.

JV – Poolesville 42 Ballenger Creek 2      The Jv Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Falcons in the Lady Bulldogs arena. The Lady Falcons won their second straight game  42-2. The Lady Falcons came out strong with an aggressive full court press. The Lady Falcons took a big lead at the half 30-2. Second half the Lady Bulldogs try to get an offense going  but the Lady Falcons defense helped sealed the victory. The Lady Bulldogs never gave up and fought hard start to finish. The Lady Falcons was led by Jayda Stanton with 12 points. Marley Mitchel chipped in 6 points. Amaya Darrell scored the Lady Bulldogs 2 points for the game.

V - Urbana 39   Walkersville 27   The Walkersville Lions girls varsity team hosted the Hawks yesterday for the final game of a 4-game day at Walkersville High School. The game started slow for Walkersville as Urbana came out in an incredible trapping press. The Hawks were quick to go up 9-2 at the end of the first, including a three by Madison Manguiri. The Lions got more into a rhythm in the second quarter, with a three by Amelie Pittinger and ended the half trailing 16-14. The third quarter was owned by Urbana with two more threes from Madison Manguiri, extending their lead to 31-19. The Hawks held onto their lead beating the Lions, 39-27. Urbana was led by Madison Manguiri with 15 points and Teagan Pyles with 7 points. Walkersville was led by Amelie Pittinger with 8 points and Brynn Ambush with 5 points.

JV –  Walkersville 19  Urbana 17   It was a fight to the finish type of game and Walkersville pulled out the win over Urbana. Urbana was led by Brooklyn Walder and Eva Zheng both with 6 points and Sophia Villegas had 5 points. The Lady Lions were led by Payton Zile with 14 points, Emma Walz with 3 points and Payton Frank with 2 points.

V – Catoctin 38  Brunswick 25    The Catoctin Lady Cougars hosted the Brunswick Lady Railroaders on Saturday afternoon in their season opener. Catoctin took the lead in the first quarter 10-5 getting points from 4 different players. The second quarter played similar to the first and Catoctin led 20-12 at the half. The third quarter proved to be the decisive quarter as Catoctin outscored Brunswick 10-2 in the quarter pushing the lead to 30-14. Brunswick didn’t quit though and a strong last quarter closed the gap but Catoctin held on for the 38-25 win.  Alice Watson led Catoctin with 13 points, 5 steals and 3 assists. Leah French had 9 points and 11 steals. Adalyn Degrange controlled the glass grabbing 15 rebounds and tallied 5 points and had 4 assists. Galilee Shullenbarger and Madison Greenwood led Brunswick with 7 points each. Clara Nichols contributed with 6 points.

JV – Catoctin 54  Brunswick 20     Strong start to the season for Catoctin Mid Maryland JV team with a solid defense. Ellaina Case was on fire with 21 points and Alice Watson following behind her with 17 points. Other contributors were Abigail Morlan and Emma Sparkman.  Catoctin shut down Brunswick’s offense with Karis Phillips with only 6 points. Brunswick rallied back in the 4th quarter. 

 V – Mt Airy 50   North Hagerstown 12     The Mount Airy Varsity Girls defeated the North Hagerstown 50-12 at Mount Airy Middle School.  North Hagerstown jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a long-range 3 by Dalzaya Knight.  The Bulldogs bounced back by scoring the next nine points, taking a 9-3 lead with buckets from Elis Uhlig, Lily Kaye, and Maddie Kawkins, and Julissa Almonte.  North Hagerstown closed the gap to 4 at the end of the first quarter as the Bulldogs led 12-8.  From there the Bulldogs defense tightened up and created several turnovers that allowed the Bulldogs to finish the half with a 15-9 lead.  The third quarter was all bulldogs as they outscored North Hagerstown 21-1 with scoring coming from a host of bulldogs including Riley McClellan, Cadence Sprau, Kellyn McCarthy, and Mia D'Onfrio, North Hagerstown got back on the board with baskets from Zoey Sanders and Crissy Turner to start the 4th quarter, but Mt. Airy closed the door and pushed their lead to 35 thanks to a few transition baskets and free throws from London Williams, Charlotte Richardson, and Reagan Kalbaugh putting the finishing touches on a great win for the Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs were led by Elise Uhlig's 13 points and Maddie Hawkins' 12 points.  North Hagerstown was led by 4 points each from Chrissy Turner, Dalzaya Knight, and Zoey Sanders.  Final from Mt. Airy, Bulldogs 50 North Hagerstown 12.

JV – North Hagerstown 27   Mt Airy 25    N. Hagerstown outscored Mt. Airy 6 - 4 in the final quarter to pull out the victory. Naomi Shorts scored 14 points to lead all scorers in the win, and Blessing Engemise added 7. Annabel Fulghum-Roles scored 4, and Aniyah Ware scored 2 to help secure the win. Carlie Alexander scored 10 points, and Kendall Cohen added 7 points, leading the way for Mt Airy. Maddy Janyska, Bianca Roman, Maddie Hancock, and Ashlynn Harrison added 2 points each in the loss.

V - FSK 43  Smithsburg 33    FSK Eagles defeated the Lady Leopards 43 – 33 in a hard-fought battle in Union Bridge on Saturday afternoon. FSK was led in scoring by Lyla Smith scoring a game-high 12 points, followed by Neveah Dotson chipping in double digits of her own with 10 points. The Leopards were led in scoring by Hillary Sagba scoring 9 points. She was followed in scoring by her teammate Zoe Shuster adding 7 points.   Throughout the game, both teams went on several scoring streaks keeping it very interesting and competitive throughout.   FSK was able to close the game out with tenacious defense, and a couple of late 3’s by Reese Smith, and Cheyenne Sinnot put the final nails in the coffin for FSK.

JV – FSK 36  Smithsburg 26      FSK JV Eagles took on the Lady Leopards of Smithsburg on Saturday afternoon, with FSK coming out on top by a final score of 36 – 26. Both teams came out firing at the start of the game, scoring on their first possessions. The first quarter ended with FSK leading by only 1 point. Nadelie Rill took over in quarters 2 and 3, scoring 14 of her game-high 24 points between the two. The Leopards wouldn’t go away quietly with the help of their high scorer Elyse Anderson scoring 8 points, both Lucille Krumpe and Vivian Malott adding 7 points to make a run late, but the lead that FSK had accumulated was just too much to overcome.

V - Middletown 55  Brunswick 31     Brunswick falls to Middletown 31-55. The Railroaders and Knights finished the first quarter tied at 8. Brunswick would take its only lead of the game early in the second quarter that saw Middletown put up 21 points. Brunswick‘s Galilee Shullenbarger led the Railroaders with 10 points. Addie Hsu contributed six points. Madison Greenwood, who was in foul trouble in the first quarter and would foul out in the fourth, was limited to five points. Kimber Mercer and Serenity Morris put in two, and Clara Nichols had six. For the Knights, Reagan Murphy led all scores with 16, including going 4/4 from the free throw line. Addison Aviles and Megan Tross both added eight, with a three-pointer for each. Other Middletown scorers were Avery Clayton six, Addison Bendler five, and Avery Larson four with Quinn Wagner, Avery New, Noel Clayton, Camilla Robinson all putting in two points in the Knights win

 

JV - Brunswick 23  Middletown 22     Karis Phillips hit three clutch free throws in the final minute of the game to help Brunswick come from behind to beat Middletown in a thriller, 23-22.  The Knights jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead in the first quarter and led at the half, 12-8.  Makayla Ciccarelli provided a huge spark off the bench for the Railroaders and led all scorers with 11 points.  Katie Paschalides chipped in with four points for Brunswick, while Ruby Renn, Jollene Droneburg, Josie Spevak, and Annabelle Boyer also scored for the Railroaders.  For Middletown, Sacchetti, Moore, and Grady led the way with four points a piece, while Bidinger and Hockman each chipped in with three points.  Fogle and Etter rounded out the scoring for the Knights.  Brunswick shot 10 of 17 from the free throw line for the game, while outscoring Middletown 15-10 in the second half.  

JV - Walkersville 33 Crestwood 1: The Walkersville Lady Lions hosted Crestwood Sunday evening. Both teams came out a little cold to start the game with a first quarter score of only 6-1, Lady Lions leading. Walkersville amped up the energy and extended their lead by halftime to 15-1. Monocacy switched up their defense to try and slow down
Walkersville to start the 2 nd half, but the pride of lions could not be stopped. The Lady Lions maintained their lead and won 33-1. Walkersville was led by Gina Douds and Payton Zile, both with 10 points.
 
V - Monocacy 62  Urbana 30   A 21 point first quarter carried the first paced Monocacy Varsity to a 62-30 win over a scrappy Urbana squad.The winners tough defense in the first half held Ubana to 11 points. Urbana never gave up,outscoring Monocacy 13-12 in the 4th quarter. Monocacy was led by Sophia Burgee with 20 points.Laney Baer had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.Mckenna Long had 8 points and 4 assists,Annabelle Horst had 6 points, and Moroti Adebiyi grabbed 6 rebounds.  Urbana 's Dakota Washington was their leading scorer with 13 points with Teagan Pyles adding 8 points.

JV - Monocacy 47 Urbana 34    Monocacy and Urbana JV teams met Sunday at Thomas Johnson High School to kickoff the Mid-Maryland Girls season.  Both teams traded multiple field goals in a high energy and fast moving start of the game.  Urbana led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter.  Monocacy's defense got stingy in the second quarter and Natalie Saxon hit a 3-pointer - Monocacy held a 22-15 lead at halftime.  Both teams came out fast after the half including multiple free throw conversions - Monocacy held a 36-25 lead at the end of the third quarter.  Jaclyn Albaugh converted three field goals in the fourth quarter as Monocacy cruised to a 47-34 win.  Natalie Saxon of Monocacy led all scorers with 18 points.  Other Monocacy scoring included Jaclyn Albaugh with 17 points, Alora Turner with 5, Hazel Gomez with 4, Abby Tootill with 2 and Kaylee Hnath with 1.  Urbana's leading scorer was Eva Zeng with 8 points, followed by Brooklyn Walder and Makala Randolph with 6 points each, Sophia Villegas with 5, Brooklyn Weilding with 3 and 2 points each from Anabel Murphy and Emma Schmidt.

V - Smithsburg 45 Clear Spring 19      Smithsburg was led by Vivian Malott with 18 points to lead all scorers.  Camryn Gouff added 9 strong points. Lily Becker and Payton Patterson followed with 8 points each.

JV - Clear Spring 27 Smithsburg 15     Clear Spring was led by Julia Brown with 8 points. Laoralyn Blair and Violet Osborne added 5 points each to the win.   Smithsburg was led by Gabriellah Sewell with 10 points to lead all scorers

V - Oakdale 75  Poolesville 17     Poolesville's Varsity Girls ran into a buzz-saw in their home opener on Sunday, losing to Oakdale by a final score of 75-17. Lillian Leon led all Oakdale scorers with 17 points, including eight in the first quarter alone. Bri Sims and Carly Roosa were in double figures for the visitors---they finished with 12 and 10 points respectively. Right behind them were Aubrey Doyle and Evyn Bova with eight points apiece. Ella Charbonneau put the Falcons on her back---she finished with 12 points (10 in the second half). Renea Cooke (three points) and Ananya Mulukutla (two points) also scored for Poolesville.  

JV - Poolesville 40 Oakdale 26     Poolesville's Addy White's eight second quarter points and Lily Weyrauch's nine third quarter points broke open a tight game as the Falcon JV Girls won their home opener over Oakdale by a final score of 40-26. White finished with 10 points total, followed closely by Weyrauch with nine, Reagan Mauer with six, Brea Hebron and Jayda Stanton with five, and Margo Slonski and Marley Mitchel with four points each. Charlotte Moore, Emma Urquilla, and Camille Morrow also scored in the win. Oakdale's Gabrielle Gonzales scored early, often, and from all over as she finished with 16 points to keep the visitors close. Faith Bigham did her share for Oakdale---she finished with seven points. Forever Rico and Tallulah Hammel also scored in the loss.
